  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 aftermarket brake pads

That's interesting... I did not know that.
Yes the stock US market pads (58101-J5A51 and 58302-J5A50) are ceramic. My understanding is that they don't sink heat as much as they should, leading to deposits/hotspots/warpage zones on your rotors and massive vibration under braking (ask me how I know! :)). That's what kicked off this entire information hunt for me.

Ended up replacing the stock ceramic pads with Hawks, vibration under braking remained. Replaced stock rotors with high carbon Centrics from RockAuto, vibration under braking gone, new vibration at speed noticed due to floaty pads, crazy amount of noise and bite at low speeds.

Euro stock semi-metallic pads on the way and hopefully that's the end of the Brembo money pit saga for me!

The factory Euro pads should do it - they did for me. I like them, great bite, no noise issues. Dust of course, but that's inevitable.
Unfortunately lots of people think that just because some pads are "ceramic" means they're going to be good.

^ i had the same issue with my G37S. OE pads were ceramic which didn't heat up enough or were abrasive enough to shave off deposits. especially the rears, so i had to change out to a more aggressive pad.

ceramics are great for being quiet and lasting a long time, and if most drives are on the longer side with enough high-ish speed stops then they'd be OK. but for many city driving applications on not-so-heavy vehicles they are a compromise.

my wife's Highlander has OE ceramics. they work just fine on her 4600lb SUV.

Agreed. Ceramic pads are often good, with respect to long life, low noise, low cost and low dust, but that doesn't make them performance oriented, or good at stopping a relatively heavy vehicle at speed. One emergency stop or heavy deceleration on an exit ramp is all it takes to cause deposits resulting in brake vibration. The standard OEM pads should never have been put on these vehicles IMHO. If you drive like an old lady, you'll be fine, but I suspect very few old ladies are buying these cars, lol.

I found some semi-metallic pads from GiroDisc on Khartunerz for 130, that say they are drop-replacements for the front Brembos, but I have no idea if they will 'float' like some of the other front options. I'll probably just bite the bullet and order those front euro brembo pads, and get the rotors lathed again, see if that works for me.

Did you check Todd's results? (Another thread on brake vibration I think) He tried a few, and I know there were some he didn't like but I thought there was one he did.

Ah, thanks, I'll check it out.

well, just bit the bullet on front pads, got them from hyundai access online, which is some dealer's parts site. Local wanted 320 + tax (another 23) but most online places were 200 to 250 with tax and shipping. Hyundai access had them for 205 + 10 for shipping. They are out of Henrico VA. Fingers crossed I get the actual correct parts. Man, this car uses so many parts that are so much $$$$ I feel like I bought the BMW after all. Jeeze louise.

Good luck with the new pads, I think you'll like them.

Here's my anecdotal experience with Pad Deposits and Replacement Brake Pads.

I had experienced the vibrations first after descending from a mountain. They were very noticeable when braking from highway speeds. Without any treatment of the issue, it gradually reduced in magnitude over time. Reading up online, and seeing how it's likely due to pad deposits, I decided to switch out the stock pads.

At first I tried the GLOC street ceramic pads. These have proper fitment, and do not suffer from pad deposit issues. However, they squeal like a banshee during certain situations (creeping mostly). In addition, they chewed up the rotors. There is an audible "groan" when the brakes go from static to kinetic friction that's still audible on my new pads.

Next I purchased the Stock Euro Pads by searching up the model number and ordering them online. These do not suffer from pad deposit issues, and are inaudible. This may be because of the vibration reduction weights that most aftermarket pads seem to lack. Thankfully, our cars make this job very easy; you don't even have to remove the housing.

It does generate noticeable more brake dust compared to the NA version, but nothing unmanageable.

3000 miles now on the "Euro" pads, 1500 of which was a very spirited road trip through the mountains of Tennessee and North Carolina. Zero issues, much better braking, at the expense of more brake dust(which I don't mind).\

It's what the car should have come with from the factory, but I understand why they "dumb it down" for the US market.

^ yup, only the 6MT and Dynamic trims came with the euro pads from the factory. i've lived with the brake dust since day one but am not complaining. especially since the summer 19" dark Sport rims are so easy to clean.

aaahhhh - I have not put mine put in yet, I am really jealous. I have to get a rim unbent at the same tire place, so I'd thought I'd kill the proverbial 2 birds, was waiting to do that.

Every time I clean the wheels on my elite trim, I am on Ebay looking for Sport wheels. I like cars like jay leno likes cars, best when some one else is doing all the work like tedious wheel cleaning or spark plug changing.

You were on the dragon i’m guessing? Excellent road. Been on two wheels and in my convertible.

Anyone know where to get the Euro spec brakes in Canada? Dealership wants $900 for the front and $350 for the rear and that's Kia. Genesis was quoting $750 for rear for regular pads.

^ i've been wondering the same thing. it seems virtually impossible to find OE G70 parts support in Canada, other than direct from dealerships.

the euro pads are semi-metallic. i have the euro pads, which came standard on my 6MT. to be honest, i'd be looking hard at the pads below from Rockauto.com (which ships to Canada). my quest would be to find the OEM supplier, and buy direct from them unbranded instead of in a Genesis box from the dealer for a massive markup. who know, Dyanmic Friction could be a supplier. i'd put a call in to Brembo too, but i doubt the pads are theirs.

interestingly, the pictures that correspond to the pads above on Rockauto's site show a Brembo part number - so i may be on to something!

^ as a follow up, i also checked out Dynamic Friction's "Active Performance" pad range. this may be the formulation, or very close to it, that aligns with the G70 "Euro" pad. the spider chart mirrors my experience to date with the euro pad. they're a bit noisy, quite dusty, quite abrasive, but fade free and amazing bite - and i've had no pad deposits which cause the dreaded 'warped rotors' which are an issue with non-euro ceramic pads:

Anyone try EBC yellow or red pads? Apparently Tdotperformance.ca can order to fit the G70. These are top of my list. Search under the KIA Stinger gives better results. One of the staff or owners (not sure but answered my email) owns a G70.

Today I did my Oil service and I mentioned to the advisor that I have the chance to drive the car long enough in a month like I never drove before being outside Toronto. In total I added more that 3000 kms and coming back to town last weekend I experienced the vibration especially at hard braking and some at the steering wheel when over 120 kms/hrs. I was suspecting tires unbalance but not sure since between winter and summer rotations, the summer rins barely used. My car right now at 28600 kms since I got it January 2019. They told me rotors needs replacement, all four, balance check found no issues. They put the order and let me know when to come back for the change. So, based on comments here in the forum wondering if the pads will require replacement too considering new rotors with used pads will not match as suppose to.
