  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My G70 is in the shop today getting its 10,000Km service. I was told that in addition to the oil and filter getting changed they plan to change the cabin filter.

My loaner car is a brand new G80. Same 3.3T engine and AWD as my G70 but the cars couldn't be more different.

I really like the powered open and close trunk on the G80 and there's definitely a ton more trunk space and noticeably more rear seat room. It took some searching to find the parking brake switch as it's not on the console like in the G70 but right above my left knee on the dash.

The multimedia display on the G80 is blended into the dash as opposed to it sticking out on the G70. I like how this looks on the G80 more but realistically it's 3-4 inches further away and there's parts of the right side of the touch screen that cannot be reached without moving forward out of the seat. I also miss that the display on the G70 that is slightly angled towards the driver making it a bit easier to see.

Realistically, I'd never consider owning a G80. The main thing that I fell in love with the G70 was how good of a sports sedan it was. The G80 just feels really heavy and even in sports mode doesn't inspire any confidence in the corners. The G80 definitely has a more luxurious interior but a big heavy car like this which is not sports oriented is not for me.

I've just gotten a text that my G70 is on it's way back and will be dropped off at my work in about an hour and the G80 picked up. Looking forward to the drive home again.

I describe it as a boat. Reminds me of my parents old Caddy. Ton's of power and space to match, but it wasn't moving anywhere fast. Smooth as hell though and could take a beating

98% of the GPS functions can be accessed with the jog dial, no real reason to ever touch the screen.

While I love my new G70 I will say I did also love my Genesis Ultimate for obvious different reasons.
It was a beautifully comfortable quite car that made long drives a pleasure with gobs of tech stuff.

^ different story with a JB4 and Map 3. Car does less than 4.5 seconds. Not a boat anymore now is it...LOL.
He's probably referring to overall feel especially in corners.
I love cars that can corner well and take as much speed in and out of the corner!

I didn’t have the G80 long enough to get used to everything so I didn’t notice a dial. The only button that I really used a lot in the one day that I has the car was the Drive Mode button, changing between Normal and Sport many times.

Interesting comparison. My 2015 Genesis 5.0 Ultimate has the adaptive suspension which helps this big sedan handle like a smaller more nimble car like your G70. However, the G80 models lost the adaptive suspension except for the G80 Sport so I was curious how the G80 handles with non-active shocks. Seem like the non-sport G80 lost some agility in place of comfort tuning more akin to Lexus.

he had a sport, the 3.3T is the sport in RWD or AWD

I was commenting on his observation of the G80 model he tested. I assumed he drove the Ultimate G80 model due to having the power trunk. Does the sport G80 model have the power trunk?

Yes it does. The 3.8 has it as an option for 2019.

Yes. The sport has everything no options available except AWD (which includes heated steering wheel)

The sport is equal to the Ultimate in terms of how it is equipped.

The next gen G80 should be a good bit more sporty (while hopefully retaining the comfort level); of course, still not going to be as tossable as the smaller/lighter G70.

Well, the G80 sport is a nice deal.:)

It will never be as sporty as the lighter G70, with is true of most heavier sport sedans vs. lighter sport sedan models with active suspension. However, the Genesis/G80 handles great for its size with the active shock option. I have never driven a 5.0 model or 3.8 model without the active suspension to compare the handling, but I assume that handling is not as precise as the model with active shocks overall. The 3.8 should be lighter in the front which helps handling, but the overall ride quality is probably better with the active shocks in the Genesis/G80 Sport model.

The G70 is just a sleeker better performing sedan by design without question. Like an F18 vs. F15 fighter plane. Both are bad ass fighter planes, but the smaller F18 will fly circles around the larger F15 even though the F15 has a faster top speed. The G80 Sport is just a more upscale ride overall if it handles as good or better than my 2015 5.0 Ultimate.

The G80 is a boat, and in my opinion doesn’t handle as well as other large sport sedans I have owned, and the electric steering while a nice feature for LKA presents a certain disconnected feel with the road. My RCF had the electric steering assist as well, but it actually loosened or stiffened depending on the drive mode, sport plus making it super stiff and my preferred feel. The G80 doesn’t adjust and with LKA on sometimes feels like it is fighting your for control. Defiantly not a “sport” feel in that sense, I also don’t like that in a sport model with sport mode the transmission doesn’t hold the gear and arbitrarily kicks back into drive on a whim.

But I like most didn’t buy it for its handling or track prowess, we bought it because of the sportier look both interior and exterior. If they had offered a Ultimate 5.0 with the sport appearance package I would have gone that route because I prefer a big V8 in a highway touring cruiser, which is essentially what the G80 is.

As a former Genny owner (both previous "G80" models before the name split and 2 coupes... And 2 Equus) I say there's no comparison in power and "funness" comparing the G70 to the G80... also the looks are much more unique and sportier.

Nah, I was referring to the thing being wide AF, but that too I suppose ;)

And as former owner of a 2014 and 2016 Genesis I agree with you 100%.
