  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 Spark Plugs

I am just wondering if anyone knows of any resources to guide a person through the plug swap process. I am somewhat mechanically inclined but not a mechanic and the video on Youtube from Tork for the Stinger makes me feel like there are a ton of areas during the process to potentially go wrong or at minimum get super annoyed. Just looks like a pain in the ass

I paid $130 all in (plus plug cost from BMS). Best decision EVER.

I could have done it...nah. I would have screwed something up.

Find a mechanic dude...trust me.

yeah im not risking doing it myself I’m taking mine to a shop and just get it done with
Key is...when you shop around...ask if they’ve worked on a Stinger. Also get the hourly rate.

My guy has never seen the engine and pulled it off in just over an hour. Rate was $80/hour. Excellent mechanic!

No short cuts...he pulled off the manifold like Torx did.

Yeah, thats the impression I got from the video. The challenge is finding a reputable shop in the DMV familiar with the 3.3T platform... Been struggling to find anyone.

The job honestly isn't that bad, you just need to have the right tools. I will agree though if you have large hands accessing the passenger side plugs is going to be very difficult for you if you don't remove the intake manifold. All you need is a ratchet, swivel spark plug socket, universal joint and long extension for the hard to access plug. A torque wrench is also a good idea so you avoid over tightening the new plugs.

The job ended up taking me longer than it should have as I initially couldn't find my universal joint in my toolbox. It took me awhile to figure out how to disconnect the connectors on the ignition coil wires, so that slowed me down a bit as well.

Anyone have experience changing the plugs on the 2.0T? Since it’s the Theta engine and found in others applications — and seems to have plenty of open space in the engine bay — I’m assuming this isn’t a difficult job.

But I’ve assumed incorrectly before.

It all depends on what you feel comfortable with. If you were not feeling it after watching the Tork video, then I don't blame you for not wanting to do it! Nothing wrong with that. Also, if you're having trouble finding a good mechanic, then perhaps also try and look for a performance shop. If they've done spark plugs on a WRX or any Subaru they will be totally comfortable doing plugs on the G70/Stinger.

I am still planning on making a how-to video of the DIY spark plug replacement. I want to check my plugs once I get my car back together, lol.

Just like @Beefer said, the 2.0 would be easy breezy! Pretty much just like any other non-boxer 4 cylinder. I wouldn't sweat it!

On a scale of 1-10, it is a 1.5. Super easy!

Is it worth getting the mobile app or is there just 1 tune/map available?

Could you help me out with my mobile app? I just installed the jb4 and fuel wires and turned the car on and I connected to the app and it put me in map 1 but none of the readings were right, showed me at 0 rpm and the other diagnostics all said 0 as well
Absolutely get it. Otherwise...you have to hook up a laptop to change maps and settings.

You sure all plugs are connected properly? Including OBDII?

No errors on App connection? No error codes in car display?

You may connect to the BT device...but is the BT device itself connected to JB4 correctly?

Triple check EVERYTHING.

it was the OBDII, just disconnected it and reconnected it and its working now, THANK YOU!

I got the USB cable connection instead of the wireless, and it's been pretty dang annoying constantly hooking up my laptop again and again to log runs, change and modify maps, etc. Even so, it is better than nothing! I figure I'll most likely end up going with Bluetooth later on down the road - that said, I probably should have gotten it in the first place.

Right on !!!! Very cool.

So...what gas is in your tank? No need to mess with any settings...other than selecting your Map.

Settings are for later if you really wanna tweak, etc.
