  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 to be discontinued

Honestly, I never did find the urge to open up, whether on 2 wheels or 4. I once bought and kitted up a '14 ZX14R into a kickass hypersport tourer, and while I appreciated the fat Ninja's prodigious amount of smooth power on tap, I could count the number of times I actually wringed it out through the gears on one hand and still have 3-4 fingers left. :) Fun is to be had in the corners, and I'd much rather spend a day riding The Pace through winding 2-lane backroads, with a buddy I trust. Done well, it's like a fusion of poetry and Samba dance on 2-wheels. As Nick Ienatsch puts it, the emphasis is not on outright speed, but rather, on momentum management and bike control.

Back some 10 yrs ago, the office I worked at had several guys that all rode. We used to do bike lunches, as well as 3-Sister type weekend rides twice a year. We all went separate ways since then, so I haven't sport toured as much since before the pandemic.

But... I've carried that same philosophy into the way I taught my oldest on how to approach HPDE with cars as well. Most of the work done on our cars have been all suspension related. Two years into it, he once told me after an AutoX session in his 6MT G70: "there is nothing slow about this 2.0T... Those who say that either don't know what they're talking about, or they don't know how to drive" I must admit it was intensely satisfying to hear him say that. I done did my job.

Ive always been into the curves too. Its just that i like any type of speed. I road raced competitively in the AMA amateur series for a few years in the early/mid 80s.

Back to the OP subject, I wouldn't count the G70 out yet.

With EV sales softening and inventory piling up, this plan likely no longer seems so brilliant. A few months ago, when I was shopping for my Stinger, every dealer I visited pointed to the rows of EVs sitting unsold and complained about not having enough ICE vehicles to sell.

This EV8 sounds like a competitor for the Tesla Model S, which MSRPs between $77k and $92k. Highly doubt EV8 would be much cheaper. Stinger replacement this is decidedly not. My guess is that this thing is co-developed with and shares the same platform as the Genesis X Concept, which is another EV-based GT car... just like Stinger and G70 are basically the same car under the sheet metal. So, neither will the Genesis X Concept be a G70 replacement. Too big, too heavy, too expensive, and all together, too useless for anything other than a hey-yo-look-at-me commuter. Bleh...

With due respect, the fact that they made some notable changes to the 2024 I think the question has been answered. It will be around for at least 2-3 years or they would not likely to have made a second set of changes since the car came out.

The kia was a small part of the Kia brand. Kia does not need the Stinger to bring people into the showrooms. The G70 ranks as a much bigger part of the Genesis brand and they need it to help support the newer stand alone Genesis dealerships. My dealer moves into their own facilty next month.

I agree the G70 still has some legs. However, it should have been revamped more IMO. I can't believe the half-a$$ digital dash wasn't fixed, but at least it was given the 2.5T my '23 2.0T SP should have come with. Oh well. But the 3.3T should have been upgraded with the 3.5T as well. Both engines are much improved, and with dual injection. And yes, I had a '22 3.3T SP, then the 2.0T SP, and the latter definitely felt noticeably nimbler and lighter. And glad it doesn't have the valved exhaust, which sounded awful (droned) on the 3.3T SP. Both V6s (with rare exceptions) and I4s (no exceptions) sound like crap with open exhausts, so better quiet IMO.

He JJsC6, I'll let you know when I go to the HC, to see if you want to go riding one day. I typically rent a house (airbnb) in Kerrville for a week in spring to go riding there on weekdays (less traffic). But that asphalt destroys tires, especially when pushing the bike. I just got new Road 6s, that hope last longer than 3K miles. Ha ha. I don't have a sport bike anymore (last was an MT-10), but the BMW R1250R HP is fantastic, and no more freaking chain, and it has all the luxury and safety features imaginable (Brembo brakes F/R too, with upside-down 45mm forks), while still very sporty, so very happy with it. We might buy a place at the Comanche Trace in that area, but until next year.

Too much revamping and the costs go up. The G70 is a great value and hopefully will stay that way. I don't think the car needs the 3.5T - The 3.3T has plenty of power and can easily be tuned for much more.. and considering Genesis didn't tune for more power a larger engine wouldn't make sense to me. Carbon build up doesn't seem to effect these engines for a very long time... if at all. I've never seen a carbon related issue with high mileage G70s or Stingers. I personally love the valved exhaust and the low rumble. I do agree the 2.0T needed more juice, so glad they upgraded to the 2.5T to be competative. I've looked into getting the full digital cluster but after getting opinions from non G70 owners, none of my pals thought there we much of a difference between the two, which I was surprised with but they are car guys too so I trust their opinion... though, I still feel like doing it one day.

The only time I can tell when i open the exhaust valve is sitting still with the window open. I hear no difference at all driving. Its very disappointing to me. I had a couple of Corvettes with dual mode exhaust and they sounded great.

Had wife's G70 in for its warranty service yesterday. Had a good discussion with the new and used inventory manager. He told me to wait until the 2025 model year to buy a new one. There will be some interesting changes. That is a far as he would go.
They have only one G70 available but are flooded with GV70s. He just shrugged his shoulders as they aren't moving as fast as they thought they would.

I find that hard to believe, with G70 just coming off a very minor 2nd refresh for MY2024. Still, with the stagnating EV sales no doubt throwing a monkey wrench into Genesis' ambitious all-EV plan, I suppose "some interesting changes" is bound to happen.

Pretty much correct - the GT1 will be more of a K8/K9 than a Stinger replacement and will be underpinned by the new IMA platform that will also serve as the basis for the GV90.

Korean sales are important for model sustainability and what sells in Korea are larger, more luxurious sedans (altho the GT1 supposedly will be a fastback).

Latest word is that development of the GT1 has been put on hold due to the current environment for BEVs (seems like Kia will be focusing on more affordable BEVs).

As for the G70, while nothing directly confirmed (wouldn't do so until the last possible moment), but possibly more evidence indicating the demise of the next G70 in terms of not being mentioned in the RFQ (which goes out to suppliers about future production).

"The estimated annual production volumes specified in the RFQ are approximately 21,000 units for the GV90, 68,000 units for the GV80, 40,000 units for the GV70, and 51,000 units for the G80." - (TKCB)

What's odd is the planned production for the GV70 being lower than not only the GV80 (which has been outselling the GV70 in Korea), but for the G80 as well.

This could possibly be due to the RFQ only applying to suppliers for production in Korea, as the GV70 is the only current model manufactured outside Korea.

Nice post. Thanks.
