  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I am pretty sure that the VIN number, EPA certification, and a lot of other related stuff is based on model year, and too late to change that.

Plus, they don't like to introduce cars in same year as the model year, always at least December of the previous year.

I have no idea what you are saying. When do you say it will be released?

You don’t know anything for sure. How could you less you have official info from Genesis. Do you?
All you know is repeating what others said they heard in some vague terms. So even if you do trust what other repeat, from what date was it delayed from and please quote the source and date as I did.

Not sure what you are arguing about here. I personally have been told by the USA South East rep of the several delays. This current one is the most mysterious.

Was supposed to launch 1st quarter...~Mar time-frame. Then it got pushed to "summer". Then it got pushed to 3rd quarter. Then the whole "cars at the port" think came up...and was supposed to be back to summer. Now it is 4th quarter.

So forgot about your specific date. It has been delayed...a mystery...a pile of shit quite frankly. Genesis botched this one up.

Saying that it is too late to call the car a 2018 model...since model year info is embedded into the VIN. So if the cars are at port...VIN's are set.

I don't think the dealers and media were lying about the delay being caused by the dealer selection fiasco. If you don't think that had anything to do with it, good for you.

So if you were personally told, then what did they say the date will be? And could they shed some light on the mystery. Is this some kind of privileged info?

Did I say they gave me a date? No I did not. Read...read...and read again. I was told of delays...back and forth. You want a date?...here is one for you...Oct 14, 2018 @ 11:02 am EST. That work for ya? Move on man...before you piss off every single person on this board...which tensions are high already.

Tensions are high because folks think there was some kind for real date that was missed. That anxiety is fed by partial information or perhaps misinformation.
If you want to keep feeding that and then enjoy folks fretting, complaining worrying, and generally getting upset over a release that does not meet their expections. Never mind what Genesis says they are going to do.

Not my circus
Not my monkeys

Why not just accept that the car will come when it does... The fact is that the vast majority of the US population has never heard of this car and is not wondering where it is.

A couple of observations.

Regarding salty air and ocean water spray, I think warm salty air and cold salty air may differ in the degree to which (or the rate at which) they lead to corrosion. But it's been a long time since college chem.

Regarding Hyundai's participation on this group, I think reading what we post while remaining in stealth mode is likely and actually makes sense. If an official rep is asked questions, he or she might be put into the position of having not to give answers r claiming (perhaps falsely) not to know the answers. It's not that hard for things to devolve to a point where an official rep who seems to be withholding informatio gets seen as a bad guy (or gal). I wouldn't want to be put into the position of having to explain every decision that my bosses made or justify every call that they make. No matter how up-beat and helpful such a person may choose t be, I think they can end up being painted into a corner and pleasing neither us nor corporate. On the other hand, it makes sense for them yo be reading what we say here and at least recommending changes that would make us happier yo buy a G70 when that is possible. But then, I know for a fact that there are other forums for other types of products that manufacturers make a point not to look at, choosing to set their own course without tapping into the consumer base all that directly. So who knows.

I was also falsely encouraged by the increase in posts to this thread today. False hope. I still hold to the position that the dealership fiasco should have been foreseeable and avoidable and that Hyundai has dropped the ball big-time. Let's hope they get things right from here on in. They've already lost some good will. If the car is great and prices are very attractive, they will regain some of that. If not, I don't think they will. Car buyers are fickle and that's compounded in the case of a new brand that hasn't yet cultivated a loyal following. Genesis has to count on people coming from other brands, for the most part. And lots of other makers are competing for those customers many of whom are now shopping SUVs/CUVs rather than sedans. Tough climate. It may not be very forgiving of mistakes.

Today we go from 10 pages to 13 pages of "Genesis US Availability"; got me very excited that news had broke! NOT
Going back to my waiting place...

What is funny is that the most vocal sector are not even in the market for a G70. Yes, I'll include myself in that group.

OK, so we have a list of exterior colors for the U.S. market - has anyone seen info on the interior color combinations?

This is a quote from the official Genesis media center
The Genesis G70 arrives at retailers in summer 2018, available in eight exterior colors: Victoria Black, Casablanca White, Himalayan Grey, Santiago Silver, Adriatic Blue, Mallorca Blue, Havana Red, and Siberian Ice.

Did they ever say anything different? That is as specific as they seem to be willing to get.

When I was at the dealer they have no info. Usually when a car is shipping the dealer will see it on their allocation sheets and inbound. No dealer I have been to has any G70 listed on the inbound. True if they are sitting in the port the timeline may shrink, but most dealers i was at are seeing their inbound well into July and August right now. I am guessing earliest we can see G70 right now is September. Technically still summer, but not by much.

It's more complicated than that. That is what they are saying now, but earlier this year, they were informally saying it would be 2nd quarter.

But Genesis Motors decided that only the new Genesis dealers (initially only 100 and now an undetermined number, but less than 350) will be able to sell the G70 because it is a 2019 model. Until a dealer has signed a new Genesis Motors franchise agreement and agree to build a separate dealership within the next couple of years, they aren't going to get any allocation (unless Genesis changes its mind about who can sell the 2019 G70).

Good point, either way I thinks we are a few months away, I am ready to sign and drive today, but 3 months from now I may have a different ride.

If you live in ATL, there is chance that some will arrive sooner than 3 months. If you don't live in ATL, then your local dealer may never get them. But even if they start shipping soon to dealers, it's hard to say want kind of discounts from MSRP they will offer.

I was at a dealership today (my brother is considering a G80) that is one of the original 100 designated Genesis-only dealerships. They have plans to refurbrish and re-purpose their current (and very new) Subaru facility to accommodate Genesis in proximity to their Hyundai dealership that now also sells Genesis.

I asked about the G70 availability. The person we spoke to said that the corporate rep was just there yesterday and didn't have any news to share and the general manager doesn't know anything either. Nothing is on their allocation lists. He said that it's always possible that things will be different from what has happened in the past, but he saw nothing to indicate that cars could be available for sale prior to September, and possibly later than that. His estimate was based on the usual flow of events, where they are made available of how many units they have been allocated and formalize their order prior to the cars actually making their way to the lots.

Clearly, very few people really know what's going to happen and they're apparently keeping their lips pretty tightly sealed. And I think those few are probably not at dealerships but at corporate headquarters.

My brother had mixed feelings about the G80. He drove the 3.8 and if he gets a G80, I think he's likely to go with the 3.3. The 3.8 really didn't feel that responsive. They didn't have a 3.3 available to drive. He thought that the 3.8 would compare favorably to his 2016 twin-turbo, 250 HP Mazda CX-9 Signature in performance but his Mazda actually feels quicker. It takes a lot to get all that G80 heft moving and 311 HP doesn't really seem to do it all that well. The Mazda obviously has less power but also weighs about a half-ton less. The 3.3 would handle that weight better and the extra power really seems like it would be needed for the car to have any sort of zip.

Yeah...I was driving around today and popped into my dealer. Spoke with the manager. Dude is so pissed off. He is now saying "by the end of the year". Forget about mid-summer...end of summer...summer...fall...late fall. I bet this f$%ker shows up in Nov or Dec. What freaking tools.
