G70 US Availability?

After reading the articles and watching the reviews that came out today, I think I've finally made a color choice for my G70 when the time comes to make a decision. I had originally wanted either Siberian Ice or Black, but I could not find a picture of the Black with the Sport wheels on it so I couldn't fully make up my mind (also was considering the Dynamic Edition, but red isn't my forte and I don't want to spend more on a package when I could put that money towards a set of winter tires)... Alas, Car and Driver posted a picture of a Black Sport trim G70 and I fell in love with it!

I can appreciate the difficulty. Sometimes, though, the better color surprises you. Have a Tucson which is silver. Wanted gray but they only had gray in the basic model. Was surprised that the silver actually looked better in the Tucson. Hope my local dealers will have multiple colors in site to compare them in natural light.

Yeah I agree about being surprised about colors... I absolutely despise the way silver looks on a car... I would never even consider silver on a new car. However, after seeing some posts from Canadian owners showing the silver on the Sport trim, I did actually consider it for a little bit. LOL.

I have not seen any reviews stating the top end will be under 50K. This is how bad expectations get set and repeated. Which ones are you referring to that say under?

No...consensus seems to say $50k or a few grand higher...which makes sense and in line with what we’ve been saying.

The early US reviews don't seem to match the recent press release on trim details. The press release indicted the 2.0T Sport was a top trim level. The reviews show the 2.0T Sport 6MT to have leatherette and no sunroof. A low-spec 6MT would be very disappointing and likely a reason to take it off my list.

Most every review and article I've read has said something along the lines of "up to $50k"... maybe one said a little over $50k and one said mid-$50s

Only a matter of time until Genesis releases official information... Hopefully an online builder with a pre-order option will be coming soon

I'm biased because I want it to be under 50k (because that's more or less, my red line for buying), but I would imagine, that after all these delays, that they wouldn't finally give pricing info and then blow right over it later.

Same here my max is 50 and would love to see it. Base starts at 2 to 3 more than stinger so why wouldn't it max 2 to 3 more? Is genesis warranty 10 years also?

I visited three dealerships this weekend. Primary purpose was to try to get a feel for what the G70 interior would be like in person.

First place had a beyond worthless salesguy. Visit started with finding him in the showroom with his feet up and playing on his mobile. After a long pause he put his phone away, stood up and greeted us as if we had just interrupted him (I suppose we had). To be charitable, it was hot outside, and he was the only person in the front office ~1pm on a weekend. I introduced myself asked to look at a G80/90 interior to get an idea of what the upcoming G70 might be like in person.

He gruffly informed us they 'had one G80' base model but he wouldn't take us on a test drive, and he didn't know anything about Genesis cars. Since I prefer being a low friction kind of person, I reiterated my desire to only casually inspect the interior. I wasn't there to make a purchase, and I tried to make it clear he wouldn't need to babysit us. Surprisingly, our visit went downhill from there...

Punchline is there was no Genesis onsite "probably because one of the other salesguys hid it so nobody else could sell it". We left a little perturbed, but kept our thoughts to ourselves.

Second Hyundai dealership experience was much, much better. I was cheerfully directed to a 'Genesis specialist' by who I surmised as one of the Hyundai mechanics. Really liked what I saw about the car except for two things: The old school dash clock (which will be gone in the G70) and the paddle shifters are plastic (aluminum would feel so much better!).

This guy was definitely a specialist. He knew the answer to basically everything that had been released and how it related to the other models. We talked a little about the dealer lawsuit brought against Hyundai petitioning to keep selling the Genesis line, too. Apparently there will be a sunset period. He opined the 2019 G70s would arrive 'very late' (Oct/Nov). I was disappointed with that last bit but enthusiastically asked for his card and will be following up with him when pricing is announced.

Third dealership wasn't Hyundai.

Since there was one in the neighborhood, we took a short trip down the road to a Ford dealership and inquired after the Bullitt. Loudest guy in the salesroom pipes up with a "We're starting those 10k over MSRP." He must've read my reaction because that was immediately followed up with "but there may be some flexibility there". LOL!!*

There's a lot of discussion on price, and rightfully so, but I think 54-55k would be a reach at this point. I don't think Genesis would go that high considering there are tons of reviews out right now saying "around 50k". I think the most we will see it at is around 52k and I don't think the Stingers price matters at this point.

The only reason I think stingers price matters is I wouldn't think the "upscaled" genesis would be priced the same as a Kia. We will see soon if so I will be ready in november.

I searched within 50 miles of where I live in California and found 25 Genesis dealers.

That may thin down soon though.

Got some flack/pushback from some a while back ago when posted that the paddle shifters needed to be aluminum (as well as all other touchpoints feeling substantial and good to the touch).

Evidently, someone on the G70 development team agreed as that person made sure that there isn't any silver-painted plastic; should see the aluminum paddle shifters on the G70 make their way to the next gen G80.

The only reason I think stingers price matters is I wouldn't think the "upscaled" genesis would be priced the same as a Kia. We will see soon if so I will be ready in november.

Esp. since Genesis has to price in the cost of loaner vehicles, the valet service, 3 years maintenance, etc., not to mention the G70 having things (like the 360 cam) which were deleted from the US-spec Stinger.

No way...you have to examine the corporate segment. Top Stinger is $52k...not luxury. G70 Sport AWD...$57k...luxury. G70 needs to fall in between to make sense.

My guess all along is $54.6k. I won’t change my guess...but now thinking it will be a smidge less.

This is true... However, the way that I am seeing it though is that Genesis does not want to be associated with Kia AT ALL (based on multiple reviewers saying how Genesis doesn't want them comparing to the Stinger)... so IMO, to base the Genesis price solely on what the Stinger is is not a totally fair comparison. Also, the Stinger is a bigger car, is a different body type (hatch vs. sedan), and is somewhat competing against different models (4-5 series instead of 3 series, A5-A6 instead of A4, CTS instead of ATS, and so on and so forth.

Personally, I think Genesis will lose a TON of buyers on the G70 if the price comes in the Mid-50s. I'm guessing $51k absolute max for 3.3T Sport AWD.

If Genesis wants to be seen as separate from Kia, they need to not base anything they do on what Kia does.

You cannot start predicting prices on deals one can get, etc. Need to go by MSRP.

With that said...my initial reply to you stands. No way in hell the loaded G70 will be cheaper than the loaded Stinger. Plain common sense.

And that's how I see the benefit of the Genesis experience... the price on the sticker is the most competitive price they can offer and that's what you pay (good news is you won't pay higher, bad news is you won't pay lower though; at least right away). So they price as low as they can go right off the bat to get you in the door and then they sell you that same exact price.

It wouldn't surprise me to see the "sticker price" for the G70 as lower than the Stinger... in reality, the Stinger will cost less because they are not selling them at sticker.

Genesis will get people in the door because the "sticker price" is less than a Stinger, and then sell them a G70 for $50k (exact sticker price) when they could've gotten a Stinger for $47k (5k off sticker)
