  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

What if it was a 2017 loaded M4...with low miles? ;) Or a 2017 R S5 for that matter. That would be a steal on both counts...hahaha.
I highly doubt I will own another BMW and the Audis are not that appealing to me.

Btw in my opinion it's a near certainty that there is an N-Performance version of this car coming. That's one of the reasons they hired Fayez Abdul Rahman.

I definitely wouldn't pay over $52k for a used car.
I was thinking that IF the G70 top spec is over 52K, I'd rather pay in the mid to high 40's for a CPO A5 Sportback. They retail for mid 50's new, so yeah that would be stupid to pay anywhere near that for a used car.

Remember though...the G70 aligns with the S4/S5...in regards to performance.

This whole g70 release as well as genesis brand startup has been a disaster in my opinion.

They have been mum on the only thing about this car that we haven't known for months, PRICE. And while 50k is a good value and wouldn't undercut stinger sales we all know that genesis brand has terrible residual value and that isn't likely to change soon.

Also they really need to do something about the fuel economy of their 3.3. Its inexcusable to be getting performance of a 340 with fuel economy of an m3. Heck even the 2.0 is about 4-5 mpg lower than others in the same class

Also, Genesis hasn't said a peep about their CPO process which has really put me in limbo. No way I'm paying 52k or higher for a g70 when a super low mileage g80 sport goes for 45k (nearly 15 grand under sticker in less than a year with sub 10k miles). Yes its a good value if you're comparing against new stickers of its euro competitors, but even those as others have mentioned can be found certified for much much less with better warranties in some cases than new. A quick look finds an audi a4 prestige with s line /sport package for close to 40k with under 10k miles

Also, how are updated interior and exterior color options to mastch the rest of the world for model year 19 g80 not even announced yet.

Hoping a test drive reinvigorates my excitement for this car, but at this point I'm gonna hold off until used g70s hit lots and keep an eye on g80 sports with a hope that genesis just ports over the Hyundai CPO process. It shouldn't be this hard to get information

I don't mind the release but I think it's because the absolute earliest I would like to buy is September, with the more realistic intention of waiting until March.

However, one of your points is valid - the fuel economy on this thing is just terrible. I would expect closer to 20/28 city and highway MPG which would put it much closer to the competition, and it unfortunately isn't close.

That is true, but remember the A5 SB gets to 60 in about 5.3 seconds (per Car & Driver). Yeah, that's a fair bit behind the G70 3.3T, but much faster than what we're hearing about the G70 2.0T at around 7 seconds per AoA.

The G70 2.0T needs to be faster and both engines need better fuel economy to compete better with the Germans! Surely the 2.0T will be faster once fully released and tested fairly, but I doubt it'll come anywhere close to the Audi 2.0T. There are some other pluses that Audi has over Genesis, but that is for another discussion...

Dear Genesis USA,

If you happen to be reading this forum I would like to state that pricing the G70 3.3T Sport HTRAC at $50k is a FANTASTIC idea! I will likely ignore the fuel economy deficit, small trunk size, poor residual value, lower tier dealer network and nonexistent rear toe room at that price.

Lastly, just a fair warning. The higher your price goes the worse my concerns over those "worst in class" attributes become.

Signed, Possible Future Customer

I’d be all over the g80 sport right now if it had some of the interior updates (Napa leather) from the g70 and came in Mallorca blue in the states

RWD or AWD? What color?

Interesting

. . .
Do not compare prior model years...and do not compare used/CPO. New to new...identical specs and year.

Look I see your point, but buyers (like me, for one) - WILL Be comparing CPOs in MB/BMW/AUDI/Lexus to a new G70. I'm literally going to do this.

That’s fine...but I think the point is being missed.

Not trying to determine value for a consumer ...but rather a loose formula to predict the cost of the top G70.

even if you don’t compare against other manufacturers cpo offerings the scenario of a new “current” model year g80 sport costing less out the door than a new g70 3.3 sport is very real. What does that signal to customers? I don’t think I’ve over seen a loaded 5 series be less than a loaded 3 series (all else equal)

Looks like there's a new video from #AutoNetwork on the Media Launch event from last week:

At minute 1:35 he talk about wheels. Here is a freeze frame from that.

1531870641890.webp

There is a conflict of information since the trim descriptions from last week show all of the 3.3T trims having 19" wheels and the AoA 3.3T video shows the 18" wheels. Likely they didn't have enough 19" Machine Finished wheels for the event cars and it was only shown on the 2.0T Sport (to my knowledge). Makes sense to me that they'd just make the 19" MF wheel optional for the non-Sport 3.3T trims and leave the 19" dark wheel for Sport only; just speculating here.

There are some other good nuggets in this video! It's a bit echoey, but you can still understand what he's saying...

When we're discussing luxury goods, isn't there a hairsbreadth difference between value and price? Relatively speaking, I could find the proverbial village bicycle of a Honda civic for $1800 tomorrow which will get me from point A to B. (Gangnam style! Hehe.)

I feel ya on trying to determine a pricing model...just think it's more complex than anything discussed so far*.

mang.

*Should probably add I work in the finance industry where we do a lot of modeling to figure out what a company is worth. Some of these valuation models are so complex they cause Excel to cry. I can't imagine it's extremely different for the automotive industry...I'll grant you we're looking at a specific vertical inside a much larger space, plus you know someone figured this out a long time ago. (I.E.- Before they queued manufacturing for another Genesis model.)

Alright, now that the barrage of marketing reviews are out, did anyone get a sense for a realistic launch date? Between the videos and the articles, I was able to see two possibilities. 1) Maybe September 2018 and 2) Maybe Q1/2019?
