  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Month and Year of creation is within the VIN.

The VIN is standard...but different manufacturers use different parts to denote the build date.

We can all see the VIN’s...so let’s start deciphering!!

I've been trying to find the manufacturing date for last couple of days with the VIN numbers from cars.com but for me is impossible. The only thing I found is that they were made in Ulsa, Korea and that they are 2019 Model year.

Perhaps go off the serial numbers. They produce in batches. How many per month, etc. Has to be a way to find the month.

For what I can see the serial numbers are consecutive, the ones that we are seeing start on the 12xx and go up to the 13xx but without any pattern for distinction between the 2.0T and the 3.3T

There is no way to find the date of manufacture in a VIN, only the model year and the sequence number of production.

And the first digit “K” is for Korea.

Ok...so found this. Position 10 is indeed the Model Year. Position 11 is the Plant. So K=2019 and U=Korea/Ulsan Plant.

I have tried to see if their 6-digit serial number (last 6 of 17) has some sort of encoding...no luck.

So...I guess to find the true manufacture date of Month and Year...you have to get those last 2 digits (18th and 19th) somehow...or look at the sticker in the door, etc.

Oh...and this is cool...

That is a pretty cool tool. I decoded mine and still didn't find a build date. Maybe it's in the weeds somewhere

Do you have the full 19-digit code? Apparently it can be found under the hood...or stamped on near the floor by the driver's seat. Those last digits will give you month and year.

And at the same time could you read the door sticker and tell us the manufacturing date.

I don't have the car yet. I have the sticker but the VIN is 17 numbers. When I get the car I'll report back to you.
Question for you. Have you done any research on insurance? Not sure if you have contacted your current auto insurance provider, etc.

I'm with Geico...and they still do not have the G70.

It looks like the G70 is not on Progressive's list yet. I'll probably have to call them to switch it on.

Ick...you should probably call for sure. For me...Geico did their estimate, etc...and my cost is $400/year more than my 2013 Audi A4. That is a lot !!

I just tried with the VIN and it said it was "invalid"...this might be really fun trying to get it insured

For the same coverage? I would have thought about the same. Even though it is new I would have thought the increase in safety features would have offset that cost.
