  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Ick...you should probably call for sure. For me...Geico did their estimate, etc...and my cost is $400/year more than my 2013 Audi A4. That is a lot !!
WHOA!!! Shoot, that sucks! My hubs won't be liking that at all.

I just called my company to get an idea for the G80 Sport versus my 2008 TL, $1,100 a year more. So much for my "more safety features" theory.

Woah!!!!! That’s insane. How does that compare to a new comparable A6 or something?

Those safety features are expensive to repair. Start with the book value of a 10 year old TL where they would total it out at the cost of a simple crash of a G80. You may be getting hammered for the "Sport" designation too. You may want to ask about the regular sedan for comparison.

Any younger drivers at home? When my kids were here I would have been broke trying to insure a Camero my wife wanted.

He did ask if I wanted to check some others but since the 2019's aren't out yet and there are significant changes I didn't want to use the current year. I guess given a 10 yr old car versus a new almost $60k one, probably should be some difference.

Yes, a big difference in value. There probably would be. a difference but not interested in the regular version. No kids at home. Daughter has been out of the house for a number of years now but always great when she, the son-in-law and the grandson come to visit.

He (3 yrs old) just told her last night that the next time they go to visit Grammy and Pop she should put their house in the back of her car so they can live closer to them. :)

As I said previously, in theory, yes, they can help assisting in preventing accidents, with an attentive driver! However, if/when an accident does occur, there's no escaping the fact that repairs will be higher due to all of the radar/laser sensors, cameras, etc. For proof, check out Car and Driver's long term 2018 Accord:

WHAT WENT WRONG: Despite so little having gone wrong during our test, we've spent quite a lot of money on repairs. A rock demolished the windshield at around 7000 miles, and the replacement cost a whopping $1011. New glass installed, we took the Accord to the dealer to recalibrate the car's camera-based safety systems, which are mounted below the rearview mirror, at a cost of another $120. (With the increased popularity of active-safety systems, you can expect similar repair bills for simple fixes like a windshield replacement no matter which brand you buy, thanks to the delicate hardware behind or right next to that glass.) Otherwise, the Accord's only trip to the dealer was for its first scheduled oil-change service at 10,000 miles. That was $79.

2018 Honda Accord 10K-Mile Update: Hitting Its Stride

That will increase insurance costs IMHO.

Interesting, so you don't believe in the active safety features such as emergency braking, steering etc. Those are not dependent on an attentive driver.

So...remember this photo from one of the first press releases? I remember asking if it was Siberian Ice...folks said it was silver...nobody really knew. You could see a bit of the blue hue in it, etc.

Well...100% confirmed. It is Siberian Ice with the gray stitching. How do I know? That is Kevin Smith's car that he is driving now. He bought it after they did the press release photo shoot with it. So jealous !!!

Definitely sport based on the wheels and the diamond pattern.

@Beefer hopefully you'll let him know how we all feel about him having that and the level of access we've had during this prolonged rollout.

I just put a deposit on a brand new red G70 Dynamic Edition AWD from Burns in NJ. They do not add on anything to MSRP pricing. Their prices are sticker, so if you want a deal right now, it is probably not the right time for you. I want my garage space back for the winter time...so need to get this car to kick out my husband :) My experience just over the phone with them has been a pleasure. The car isn't there yet, but I will be driving up there as soon as they get it. I am happy that the a-holes at Alexandria did that to me b/c I would have been sitting here pissed that I didn't hold out for an AWD w/ heated steering. I'm getting the souped up trim which is probably too much for me as I am not taking it on the track, but the torque and the fastness of how it went from 0-60 literally made me laugh out loud (in a good way). I loved that feeling of taking off. And the diamond pattern black seats with red stitching was really beautiful. I will post pics the minute I get it. (approx 2 weeks)

I told Linda at Burns that I'd give a should out...Should you want to purchase one from there, her name is Linda Levins...856-396-6992. They also seem to be following the customer service we were promised by Genesis. You go through a concierge person (Linda), then you get a "Genesis Champion"...they so far have been turnkey. I wish I lived closer to them so they can be my dealer, but alas...hoping somebody in VA gets their act together.

I ended up getting more car for less by telling Alexandria to shove it. (BTW, last I checked it's still on their website hahahahaha)

I can sleep now... but time for wine first
Congrats. I'm so happy you were able to forget the bad recent experience and look forward to driving the car you like.

however, what's your plan for service/maintenance now that you are buying from out of state? will you be going to Alexandria Dealer for service? did you ask anything about valet service for maintenance? how frequently (e.g. 3000 miles or 5k or more) do you need to service the car? do they have personnel/shop/parts/loaner to do the service in your location?

I know you might not know the answers to all these, but you might want to contact the NJ dealer to find out about that for yourself and kindly report back here for us as well

Yeah I have. Kevin has been one of the better respondents to my emails...LOL. So I let off the gas on communicating with him...and now we casually email each other. Do I have a new friend? LOLOLOL. Joking.

But I casually email him and he responds right away. I slip him some info every now and then so he knows how things are from our side of things. This way...I ask him a question here and there...and he responds right away.

But he is the PR guy. He doesn't control any of this clusterfuck of a mess.

I did ask them about maintenance and Valet service, they said that it's good at any Genesis dealership across the country. I have also heard that from my local dealerships. I will get it serviced at Genesis of Chantilly...would NEVER go back to Alexandria unless some evil forces forced me there.

So if I am getting serviced from Chantilly, then they would provide the loaners and such. At least that's the way I understand it. When I go get the car, I'm going to have them call Chantilly and make sure that's the dealio. I really do think I'll be able to go to Chantilly.

Also, the purchase is easy. We pay VA taxes and the dealership takes care of that, then we get a temp. tag and immediately go to a Va DMV, wait for hours, and register the car in VA. We also would get a state inspection. NJ said that they sell alot of cars to PA and NC so they are used to out-of-state purchases.

I do not know the schedule of maintenance, I didn't ask them that. When I get there I'll ask more detailed questions.

Interesting, so you don't believe in the active safety features such as emergency braking, steering etc. Those are not dependent on an attentive driver.

I guess you could say I'm an old school driver and a huge driver enthusiast (autocross, back roads, would love to track some day, go karting). While I'm only 30 years old, I believe that ultimately, these active safety features do indeed help overall, but at the same time, I feel that they detract from their original intention. I'm not pointing any fingers, but I really feel to the average driver who is just commuting from point A to point B and is not attentive is largely the reason for these active features in the first place. Why does TPMS exist? Because the large majority of car owners don't check their tire pressures until they have a flat or worse, a catastrophic blow out due to being low. Same thing with steering and emergency braking. A lot of those same type of drivers will then feel "blanketed" that they're protected from everything, and I hope I'm wrong, but I've already seen YouTube videos of people taking automatic steering too far and that it could promote more texting while driving.

I live in an area where I see both men and women with their phones in their hand on speakerphone wrapped up in conversation, in vehicles with Bluetooth. I've seen women doing makeup in their cars sitting at lights and then me missing the light BECAUSE they are doing everything but driving. I may sound pessimistic, but I've always told people I'm a realist. Were drivers like this back in the 70's and 80's (and earlier) before any technology minus seat belts? It makes me wonder. Just like "smart phones" have made things much easier, but I'll still have people ask me where something is, etc. I don't know, use Google Maps!

I'm all for active safety features (huge fan of ACC), but I still feel some of these features are promoting being more inattentive in the first place.

Obviously paying attention is the best but not really part of the discussion. It appeared from your original statement that you didn't think the active safety features really helped prevent or lessen the accidents. We are on the same page now. (y)

I can assure you as someone who worked police patrol in the 80's, there were many inattentive drivers then too. I've seen people doing almost anything but paying attention to the road/conditions around them. But I do agree, it has gotten much worse with our current texting society. The only reason I didn't get into accidents when I had a mobile data terminal in my squad, was people give you a lot of leeway. :)

Just got back from Henderson genesis, the only dealer currently on the west coast. He was getting phone calls the entire time from people in Cali trying to come see the cars. I looked all over the door and couldn’t find a build date but the cars they hand on hand apparently came from an auto show and weren’t ones sitting at port. They have allocations throughout the month and the trim and color I want is coming in soon so I’ll be waiting for his call. They did mention they would be trying to sell for a grand or two above msrp. I told him that I wouldn’t be paying more than msrp and he seemed ok with that...but be wary. Might just be for the first couple cars but def not getting deals right now. Let me know if you have any questions and I’ll try to answer. They only had the 2.0 on hand so I didn’t test drive but did sit down inside and looked that thing all over. Beautiful car
