  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

Just did some digging about Honda's/Acura's SH-AWD system, and I agree with NLJ. Looks like it is a FWD based system, but has some unique characteristics. So far, it seems the most torque it can bring to the rear is 70%; however, the system is able to do some pretty good torque vectoring, and can shift all of that power (on the rear end) to the outside wheels during hard cornering. Reminds me of the Ford Focus RS. There is quite a bit of diversity among models with the 'SH-AWD' badge, it seems, and some seem to have a significantly different AWD system than others despite having the same badging.

Either way, this looks like it was all designed by Honda/Acura, but I could be wrong (ie outsourcing could be a thing). An interesting system, for sure though.

Personally, I'm more excited about the G70's HTRAC - though it would be nicer to have it with an E-Diff on the rear that could utilise the same torque vectoring as Honda's system. That would be sweet.
There are a few generations. The first gen in the RL had a 2 speed transfer clutch. The second gen was the best. Fully electromagnetic and way more robust but expensive. The third gen which is in the TLX and part way through the current MDX is fully hydraulic and a cheaper slower version prone to more wear and tear as well as overheating. Not sure about the current RDX.
The hydraulic one is normally 90:10 and then transfers to the back 30:70 and 100% of that 70% to the outer rear wheel. It is the more Eco friendly version and tuned for fuel efficiency.
Second gen would do 30:70 and only 90:10 when at cruising speeds. And then 30:70 to the rear with 100% of that to the rear outer wheel.
So if you are canyon carving, SH-AWD is great. But the moment you are off power, you feel the full weight of the front and the understeer!
Not sure if the newer ones have a Snow mode but they are a terrible AWD system in the winter even though the Acura people claim otherwise. My rear end would always kick out in the corners cause it was just tuned for performance. A Snow mode which allowed for 50:50 would have been great!

We got 2 G70s last Saturday. With around 7 more inbound next month, 4 of which are already sold with deposits taken.

+/- 3 hours from Columbus - about the same drive as to the state up north, so there are options if the inability to wait is an issue. Based on my Stinger GT2 test drive, the drivetrain and features of the G70 would eat up miles in comfort. I've got more incentives going the Kia route, and a shorter wait for them to come off lease or be traded in. I'm driving a 2012 Optima EX with the Tech package and the Stinger is a clear step up on every level. Prior to that, I had a 2002 Subaru WRX which was fantastic in the snow. I suspect the AWD Stinger/G70 will be similar, but with a lot more HP and torque. I think I'll start playing the lottery a bit more...

Columbus, OH expecting vehicles in February of 2019, according to the Hyundai/Genesis dealership I visited today. I test drove the Stinger GT2 at an adjoining Kia dealership and that car is much better in person than on paper or screen. Approximately $10K off remaining 2018's is very tempting!
I liked the stinger equally in different ways and was thinking the same thing 2018 with 10k off but.. 4 horrible dealer experiences. A lot of bad paint issues. Rotor issues..seems as if seats are wearing horribly fast many complaints on stinger forum.. no 360 camera. No lsd on awd. And rumors of horrible service experiences with already several noted recalls.
I'm waiting for the G70 great dealer and test drive experience. Only issue is inventory and a dealership closer than 2 hours.
Good luck.

Agreed. Lack of AWD LSD, and the more protective AWD software are two big things keeping me away from the Stinger, among other things. But those dealer incentives/discounts are still tough to ignore!

I had a first gen Acura RL with the SH-AWD and torque shifting, it drove like a much smaller car, very solid going around corners fast. While not as tight as my 96 Mustang Cobra, the SH-AWD made a huge difference in drive-ability to me. There was a meter that showed where the torque was being directed, and yes on hard acceleration it went up to around 70% on the rear wheels. It was also fun to watch the meter on hard corners, where the torque shifted left/right depending on the corner, but it was also hard to keep my eyes on the meter ... needed to watch the road too :) Unlike NLJ, I never experienced any torque steer.

Genesis is handling their loaner cars differently for 2019+. From my understanding, they actually have to be registered to the dealer, we can use them for up to a year, put up to around 15k miles on them, and then can be sold as CPO. Soooo, if my understanding is correct, we could have some CPO ones come available in about a year. We have requested loaners from Genesis. When, and what mix of models we're getting, I'm not sure on.

Still no cars in Florida even though the State was licensed more than 2 weeks ago. 9 months have passed since the car showed up in Canada. Let's see if January show some cars. I hope so.

Just had a transport pull in with 4 more G70s.

Never mentioned torque steer. Only understeer.

Honestly...for $5k...that’s a lot of stuff. Good deal.

After how many miles on a demo vehicle should a buyer see a discount? I am looking at a AWD Sport with 1500 miles on it. Also, I have been to 3 different dealerships and having purchased multiple cars in the past, Genesis/Hyundai is missing the "luxury" car buying experience.

For me personally that is enough miles for a discount. That's half years worth of miles for me. Lol. I expect a discount with 0 miles.

They have had it in stock for 2 months based on the online inventory, so I am shocked they aren't offering more of a discount to get the car off the lot. Currently offering the conquest rebate and the $2500 lease case. I guess I need to decide how much I want the car.

1500 miles on it and no discounts at all?

What dealer? I know I want the car but I'm waiting patiently for a closer dealer to be announced for my service needs (dont care for valet service 100 miles each way). And I probably will not purchase unless I can get very close or if not more than 10% discount no lease purchase.

They probably are acting as if it's worth its weight in GOLd, as did KIA with the stinger. Now giving 10k off lol

Just remember also this first batch of cars have been sitting around at the port for a while. Also no one wants cars anymore all want SUV and crossovers. Do not see many Mercedes ,BMW, and Audi owners moving away from their beloved badges. (as Kia thaugh but I may be wrong) I think more buick, chevy, Honda, Ford, ect. buyers will be more likely to look at Genesis but you see they are all discontinuing their cars which takes us back to no one buying cars.
