  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G70 US Availability?

I put an offer on one the other day of $1200 off MSRP and used the the date of manufacture and expectation that 2020's will likely start production within the next 6 months as the reason for not paying the $200 under MSRP they were trying to charge. They did not go for it but this is going to be an issue for the dealers soon. I also would have to spend $800 shipping it, so at this point I am trying not to take a total bath even though I really want the car.

That is a good negotiation point. Fairly soon they may start having the tire flat spot problems that they had with the G80s when they sat around fairly long. I think they ended up replacing tires for anyone that wanted new ones but not sure about that.

My current car is over 100,000 miles, but paid off and reliable. If my choice is almost year old inventory in the spring, I may just wait for the '20 model in the fall. I want to see what Acura does with the redesigned TLX-S anyway.

That trick would probably only work in the fall. The G70 is gaining traction and the dealers probably assume that soon enough that the car will sell itself!

Yeah, I actually figured they would hold out but that if they need a sale at the end of the month I might get a call. Always worth making the offer.

Reporting on something you never hear on this thread - I've met a neighbor who has a design 3.3T G70 parked in the same apartment lot as me and moved in a few weeks ago, looks like the G70s are getting more common here in PA. He mentioned seeing another one in a nearby neighborhood.

This is in a state with no 2019 models available so seems like quite a few are willing to travel to NJ to get the G70s.

We probably represent the 2 closest G70s outside of any dealer in the US 🤣

That's the state where I picked up my G70... Drove 835 mi from Chicagoland to get it. 🤣

You mentioned earlier that you were disappointed in the sound system. Curious to hear if you have any thoughts on the system for classical music vs. rock (or other types, jazz etc...) ? Or do you find it "ok" but not great for all kinds of music?
Great question. You are correct that certain sound systems are better at different types of music. Bose, for example is good at just about everything as is Krell. Bang and Olfusen is great for classical as well as Bowers and Wilkins AND LEXICON in Genesis. If you want to crank the rock, Jazz or disco, Bose, Fender or Pioneer are the way to go. I have compared systems side by side with the Lexicon system from Genesis so I think I know what I'm talking about not to mention the fact that I'm a bit of an audiophile with my current home sound system being a Denon Receiver with Definitive Technology BP9060 speakers (look it up) and in the 1970s and 1980s I DJed various dances with my Nachamichi receiver and Cerwin Vega Speakers which could really KICK. Play some disco like Bee Gees "You Should Be Dancing," Lipps Inc "Funkytown." or some songs with KICK like Michael Jackson's 'Billie Jean," or "Money." Listen carefully also to some guitar shredders like George Thorogood's "Bad to the Bone" or Who do you Love?" and you will hear the difference. By the way, there is a big difference between kick and bass--any decent sound system has good bass (and you unfortunately feel it from every lowrider cruising the street) but very few sound systems (only the best) have great kick and can also reproduce those great electric guitar tones (think Van Halen).

Not sure I get your point. I too have owned extremely high end audio equipment...past and present. The system in the G70 is excellent...as I’ve stated above with my comparisons.

Never heard of Bose being called audiophile quality before. Bose sounds overly dynamic and boosted and people like that. But it is far from accurate!
I had Bose in my Infiniti and liked it but I wouldn't call it a good system. No car system can touch a home system!

Bose does marketing very well...that’s about it. Don’t believe the hype 😜

Some years ago Bose was a customer of mine. I visited their HQ and engineering department. You never knew what you were going to hear. It was a fun place to visit, but I never bought their equipment. Of course, it must have been good, just look at the prices they charge!

I thought I saw a Connecticut dealer listing some G70s at $2,000 below MSRP--of course that might also include the rebates (which only work if you qualify for them).

Hi @TurtleBoy,

Do you see any other Washington state dealers showing up on your computer? I was told that once one dealer gets "online" the rest will follow shortly.

Only 2 are Genesis of Vancouver and Genesis of Everett.

Does any one know if Genesis is displaying the G70 at auto shows. Looks like Pittsburgh doesn't have a Genesis display.

@KBH - as Beefer said, no others on the horizon at this point but as we have seen, things can change very quickly.

I think $1200 off MSRP is a perfectly reasonable offer. Of course this car is in a special place at the moment. It's a brand new model, has won a ton of awards, is the kind of car that a certain group of people fall in love with, and is currently in very short supply. All of those points argue for the dealer to ask a higher price. On the other hand, the car is entering a very crowded segment with well established competition that has more "brand prestige" (which is something that a certain group of people also fall in love with), and is also a sedan at a time when sales of sedans are falling fast; in addition, the manufacturer has an incentive to get the car out on the road fast so more people see it. Those points all argue for a lower price.

I took a quick look at the latest TrueCar stats... photo attached. I'm not sure how useful this information is because there are so few sales and thus data may be too thin to draw conclusions (for instance, they don't have enough data to tell us anything about the price on cars with option packages), but it makes some sense that early sales (as noted here) were a bit over MSRP as the earliest buyers should be people focused on this particular car, perhaps impressed by the awards, and willing to pay more to get their hands on it. But if this is correct and invoice is about $1500 below MSRP (base model), then the dealer should do perfectly well selling the car at $1200 below MSRP. (I'm assuming there's probably some dealer incentive -- a bonus paid to the dealer by the manufacturer -- of at least a few hundred dollars.) But you may have to wait a few weeks/a month or two, before they are willing to sell at that price.

Switching topics... re the sound system, I am curious to hear it -- for me it will be a big factor in whether I want to buy the car. I know from car shopping experience that some sound systems get "bad" reviews because the system doesn't have booming bass -- that's something a lot of people want these days. I myself prefer a more balanced system. I listen mostly to acoustic music and to me the most difficult thing to reproduce realistically is a solo piano. But... I have discovered if you have a quiet car (to me, this is the key reason to spend more for a "luxury" car) and a good sound system, then what you have is a rolling pair of good headphones. 😎 When I "upgraded" from my old Toyota to a Mercedes GLC a couple of years ago, I couldn't believe the difference it made in my attitude about sitting in traffic. I now almost look forward to traffic jams... emphasis on almost... 🤓

Dealers may be limited, but I'm not sure the car is in short supply. If so, they wouldn't still be working off inventory from last May and June, would they?

They may not have sent any after June or July stateside.
