  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Sigh, a rock hit my windshield while I was driving on the freeway in my G70 3.3T Sport. The crack immediately started growing across a quarter of the windshield and hasn't stopped. I got a quote from my dealer to replace it: $1631.47. Ouch.

I filed a claim with my insurance, and I'll see how that goes. But just wanted everyone to know how much that darn windshield is to replace!!! I'm pretty sure it has to do with all those sensors attached to it...

Most policies offer full glass coverage pretty cheap. All I had to do was call my agent and the glass company did it where I worked.

Sucks to lose one early on. Best after a lot of miles when they start getting pitted.

Thanks EdP. But would you really trust someone other than the dealer? All those sensors..... I'll attach some pics.windshield_crack_inside.webpwindshield_crack_outside.webp

I trust a winsheild specialist over the dealer. I had mine replaced warranty issue thru the dealer by a winsheild specialist .

Did yours have all those sensors in it too?

Edit:
Lol I just got what you said. I remember the Genesis dealer telling me they need to call in a 3rd party...

You are not the first. Take a look at this thread.

Who would you trust more? The dealer that does a few windshields a year or the guy that does six a day? In any case, it is common to take it to the dealer to have the sensors and cameras aligned.

Many dealers just call a glass guy to come in and do the job.

When I had to replace the windshield on my 2009 Genesis, I had my dealer order an OEM windshield. It arrived in a real honest a goodness Hyundai box. Dealer had an outside windshield installer do the work. Worked out great.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
With some cars, a certain spec option windshield has to be used if the car has a HUD. I want to say it has to do with how the HUD reflects the images to the driver. Is that the case with Genesis as well?

I just had my windshield replaced and the cost is totally outrageous. This made my $2000 Cilajet paint protection package pay for itself once already as it comes with 2 full windshield replacements in a ten year span.

Was the Cilajet paint protection package an add-on that you purchased when you bought your G70? I'm looking to buy one soon and I may opt for this if it's available after reading this thread. And ouch on that repair cost!

Yeah the dealer I purchased through offers Cilajet packages. The car I bought was used as a dealer demo model near the Edmonton airport, and it had a pretty nasty windshield crack towards the bottom. I have to imagine once Cilajet sees how much the windshields are costing on the G70 they might want to reconsider the two windshield replacement in 10 years for this car.

[OP here] Sorry for the late reply. Yes, mine has a HUD. I absolutely had to get it replaced by the dealer because of the HUD and the sensor alignment. Luckily, my insurance covered 100% the cost. !! :) !!

Seems like a reasonable price, no? I remember when I had to replace the windshield on my Lexus, the dealerships would charge ~$1500, though I got a 3rd party to do it for about $1100. I only paid the deductible, of course, but the insurance company did approve an OEM windshield because it had a HUD.

BTW, conventional wisdom says always get an OEM windshield if you can. With aftermarket ones sometimes the optics are not great. Oftentimes HUD wouldn't display correctly, and it can even make you dizzy while driving.

This gets filed under comprehensive coverage under your car insurance., you get charged whatever your deductible is. Change it to $100 or the lowest you can go before reporting it. Just had my windshield replaced in my 2010 this weekend. Retail was $331 plus install it would have been $550. I only paid $100. Have State Farm Insurance.

Go to a windshield replacement repair shop that specializes in windshields. Don't have it done at the dealer.

Problem is that, so far, only the dealer can calibrate the sensors with the windshield replacement.

Well I got my windshield replace on a shop recomended by the dealer. Cost was $2,100 the insurance approved OEM parts , they also calibrated the camera. Just have to pay the deductable.

Looks like I am the latest victim.

2 weeks ago I went for a quick drive to get fuel for my mower. They were paving the main road...but parts of it were still scraped/prepped. Everyone was going slow, etc. Couple of idiots were going almost double the speed limit kicking up rocks and massive dust. I tried to get a picture of their plates...but too blurry.

Anyway...I heard a hit on my windshield. Didn't think anything of it.

Haven't driven since...just over 2 weeks.

Went out today for my first haircut in 2 months (by app't + mask...awful)...and noticed a rock chip in the upper left...and a line going all the way to the middle. Solid 18". F*&K. Unfixable.

So while my car sat in the garage for 2 weeks...and the crazy temp fluctuations in VA (below freezing to almost 90F) over the 2 weeks...the crack just grew and grew.

Getting OEM windshield done at a really good glass shop. $250 deductible with GEICO. I then have to take it to Genesis and get stuff calibrated. I pay out of pocket but told that everything would be reimbursed.

Looking like well over $2k all and done. WOW. $250 is all I pay.

I have never had anything this bad happen. Are our windshields extra sensitive or something. PITFA. Is what it is I suppose.

Hey Ed...fire off a PM to me to remind me to remove the JB4 before I hit the dealer...thanks. LOL.

WIndshield or glass breakage coverage costs vary depending on which state your insurance is in. In KY all glass breakage is covered 100% with No deductible as long as you have insurance. In Florida windshield is covered, no deductible but side and rear glass is subject to deductible. Deductible amount is a choice that you make, it is not mandated by the Insurance Co. It is your decision when you purchase your coverage. Glass breakage is covered under Comprehensive unless it become damaged by a collision covered loss (wreck). So almost all comprehensive losses are acts of god (Hail, storm debris, animal impact, glass breakage etc) which is stuff you have no control of. So why have high deductible. Check the difference in cost of NO Comprehensive Deductible vs $250 or $500 Deductible, it is normally very minor. I Have $0.00 Comp deductible and always have. Many windshields over the years and never cost a penny. You DO NOT want a mechanic (dealer tech) putting a windshield in that does it occassionally. New cars use the windshield as a structural part and require special primers, adhesives etc to prevent problems in the future. Rust out around the windshield in ALWAYS caused by incorrect windshield installation. I ran a Collision shop for many years, we NEVER installed a windshield. Always used a dedicated glass company. Most glass companies like Safelite Auto Glass do the realignment process on sensors but if you have to take it to the dealer, no big deal as insurance company pays that as well. Main thing is to demand OE windshield ONLY. Do not accept a Carlite or similar a/m brand if you have sensors and or HUD. Also when you have a impact with windshield just call the insurance company and let them handle. No reason to stress, get quotes etc. Just let Company handle, this will in almost all cases come with a lifetime warranty of the installation. Long post, sorry.
