  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

G80 under-body panels on a 2015 Genesis 5.0 for easier oil changes.

I don't have a front cover, so can not count it easily.
Just wanted to buy the cover and also bolts/clips
That's why I asked here because you were dismounting it and probably know how many do I need. Do they have a part number, can't find it on https://hyundaipartsdeal.com

I did not count the bolts. I would just buy about 10 bolts from that parts website you posted to ensure you will have enough plus extra.

I believe that the bolt part number is 11274-06207-K

Do you keep your old panels?
My car is missing front under cover panel.
I'd buy your old one if you don't need it.
I still have my front panel, without push pins or bolts, from my 2016.

See PM, do you remember by any chance how many push-clips and how many bolts does it need?

Yes; the transmission filter and transmission pan are one unit, therefore to change the transmission filter you will have to change out the transmission pan.

The engine oil filter is located in a removable housing with it own drain plug.
Since Genesis had a handfull of Ex-BMW Engineers on their staff, seems right that they incorporated the same quality product line technic as the BMW products, my 2006 BMW 760LI is similar in design..........

Off topic a little, but how do those that have changed their own oil get the car high enough to do the oil change? Ramp or jack with stands, or what?

I just lift the passenger side up with a floor jack high enough so that I can crawl underneath the car on a creeper. The lift and tilt postion is perfect to have the oil flow out the drain plug.

Thanks for the reply. Hope you use a floor jack stand after lifting with the jack! Would not want to lose you.

LOL. Yes, I use a jack stand postioned next to the jack. However for an oil change the jackstand is there just for safety similar to how some owners used to put a wheel under the car for safety in case the jack give way.

Good to hear, will have to try that. Used a ramp with an extra board for my 2010 Genesis coupe, but the longer front and angle on the sedan won't let me do that.

Carguy you say they fit perfectly. Did all the bolts match or did a couple not line up as for mentioned? Thanks for the write up.

Yes. The 2017+ under body cover set(front and rear) I bought fit perfectly on my 2015 5.0 without any modification. I only needed an extra plastic panel clip since the 2017+ covers needed two panel clips to connect the front and rear cover ends together. My original 2015 covers needed only one panel clip to connect the two covers.

The 2017+ underbody covers bolt holes and other panel clip holes lines up perfectly for my 2015 5.0 RWD model. However, I do not know if the same would be true for the 2015 AWD 5.0, 2015 3.8, 2016 5.0 and/or the 2016 3.8 models.

Has anyone had any experience, good or bad, with the fluid extractors that you use the dipstick tube to pull the oil out? If so which unit would you recommend?

I started using one several months ago. I’ve done about 4 oil changes with it on my cars. I absolutely love it. I can reach the filter on my ’15 3.8 awd from the top without too much trouble so I don’t have to jack up the car or remove the plastic panels at all. I go for at least a 15 min drive before doing it so the oil is nice and thin. I end up sucking up close to the 7.3qt fill capacity so I think it does a good job getting the oil pan empty. It’s the least messiest oil changes I’ve done.
If you do end up getting one, make sure it’s big enough to hold at least 8 qts. Mine is a manual pump one and it doesn’t take much effort to build up suction to pull all of the oil out.

The local Hyundai/Genesis dealer always uses Shell synthetic blend oil and charges double the price for full synthetic. I am considering doing my own oil changes on our 2015 Genesis 3.8 and using Mobil 1 full synthetic from now on, but don't want to raise the car and deal with removing the panels.

I have an electric pump I use to change oil on our boat, a 1984 Cobalt with a GMC Mercruiser 5.7l V8. I am considering using the pump to siphon the oil from the Genesis. I see the oil filter housing at the bottom front of the engine with lots of room to access from the top. But it looks to be a long reach to unscrew the cap and change the filter and would need a shallow pan to catch the old oil and filter. Still looks like a better approach to do this from the top as opposed to crawling under the car and removing two panels.

Thanks for the reply. Do you experience any problems with inserting the suction hose, kinks or obstructions etc.? Also thanks for the reminder for the size required. The one I was looking at was only 6.5 quarts, will look for one with a bigger volume.

Thanks for your reply. I notice earlier that someone used a cut up ½ gal milk/juice container.

Yeah that was me. It works like a charm.
No issues on the hose getting kinked. Move it around and twist it once it starts sucking up air to get as much oil up as possible. Make sure you wear gloves to protect your hands from the hot tube. The oil warms it up really quick.

Helpful thread, great write-up!
Thank you!
