If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi everyone, I was just wondering what you guys get for your fuel economy. I have a a 2014 3.8 Coupe Ultimate and it has been eating gas like a dragon. I average 14.3 MPG on 91 Octane. I get gas every single week and its costing me upwards of $50+ every tank. Thanks.

First of all, start feeding the Dragon regular gas. I doubt that you will notice much difference and your wallet will be a little bit heavier.

My readout is showing 13.8 mpg at an average speed of 44 mph. Mostly around town, with a somewhat heavy foot.

Do a "Search" here for discussions of regular vs premium gas.

I think I've looked at the computer calculated gas mileage once in 4 years.

Write down your miles from the odometer when you fill it up.

Drive it till you fill up the next time.

Write down your miles from the odometer (or use the trip odometer, like I do).
reset the trip odometer when done.

Divide the miles you traveled since the previous fill up by the gallons of gas you put in on this fill up and you'll have your true miles per gallon.

I've got a 2011 Track with 3.8 and 6 speed. Bad, for my car is 22 mpg around town and I don't drive it like an old lady. If someone wants to play, I'm game.

On the highway trips, car loaded down (trunk stuffed and bags/etc. in the rear seat, I get a pretty steady 25 mpg. running 7 to 15 mph above the posted limits of 70 mph. And again, when BMW or Audi wants to see how fast the yellow coupe can go we'll bust a hundred (I need to stop doing that with my wife in the car, but usually she doesn't notice unless I point it out).

Just examples to show I don't baby it. I enjoy it.

If you're truly only getting 14 or so I'd have to believe you've got a problem.

I doubt that he's got a problem, just because he's getting 14mpg. I have an auto 2.0T and recently joked about getting 17 around town. Truth is, it's about 14-14.5. And THAT's based on the car's readout, which I've found to be "generous"! :). But my "around town" is truly, rarely being able to drive 1/4 to 1/2 mile before a light/stop sign. I drive it pretty gently too (most of the time). I can easily believe that a 3.8 would get the same or even less, depending (on what an individual's "city driving" actually is.

I agree with doing your own mileage check, and I've always done so. The car tells me I'm getting 31.5 on hwy trips (similar to above poster, 65-80mph), but my own check tells me I'm getting 29.5-30mpg....which I'm happy with!

I was surprised by how much impact just romping on the throttle one time has on the avg mileage. Sitting at redlights was also surprising.

OK, so I just completed my 3rd GA to FL round trip (my folks live on the Gulf) since owning this car (2013 Base). The only difference this time, was that I had recently changed the intake air filter with a K&N, lifetime filter. The previous, highest "car readout" was 31.5 mpg. This time? 33.5! In fact, after I stopped for fuel, I started thinking that my gas gauge function wasn't working. Why? Because the way I normally drive, I usually don't get past 35 miles or so before the first digital icon disappears on the fuel gauge. This time? It was 73 miles! And yes, I fully realize that the 2mpg difference doesn't jive with the doubling of actual miles here, but just wanted to share. I know......a lot of variables to consider.

I checked gas mileage three times during this trip (I actually got gas in AL for $2.169 per gallon) and I wish I could report that I checked it manually, but continued the drive and was somewhat "aggressive" in my last 100 miles or so (Lol, was passing a semi and we both had to brake hard as I was nose to nose with him...because a mother deer and her fawn crossed the highway at that very moment! Talk about bad timing?!).

And fwiw, I've already posted/argued in another thread about octane, and I did switch to 93 octane to see if there was a noticeable difference. There was not (to me), so I went back to what I've always found to be true; higher octane fuel is merely a wallet drainer. While superior "spec-wise", this doesn't necessarily equate to a "cost/efficiency" winner (yes, including long term use...because engine oil/cylinder cleaners are available to mitigate the superiority of higher octane, imo). And lastly, the Hyundai Turbo is specifically designed to run on "regular" gas, as well as, higher octane.....which is a requirement in other brand's turbo engines.

Anyway, just wanted to share. And no, not trying to start a pissing contest (again, lol) about octane.....and not shilling for K&N! I mainly just wanted to share the difference in "car read-out" numbers on fuel consumption after switching to a non-OEM intake air filter.

Driving back from Alabama to Tennessee a few Saturdays ago with my "new" CPO 2014 coupe R-spec 6 speed 3.8 with 603 miles on the clock I got 28mpg and was about 225 miles 95% interstate on regular 87 gas going 70-75 mph. (because dealers don't put in recommended fuel when they top it off with gas for you).

When I got to the end of that tank (city driving last 130 miles) I had dropped down to 27.5mpg and I had drove 355 miles. I don't know when or if the trip reset had been done so figuring it went another 50 miles or so with test drives, salesman going to lunch, etc before I bought it. It was already filled days before I got the car and I reset the mpg and trip when I left the dealership.

Since I've put new 93 octane gas in it I've driven everywhere. Interstate, rural highway, downtown Nashville, everywhere and currently setting on 25mpg with a quarter tank left and have driven 340ish miles with the reading saying I can go another 90 miles.

For what its worth...
