  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

thank you thank you thank you, i believe in doing all my own work unless i reallyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy have to take it to the dealer, once again thank u

the correct part # for the oil filter cartridge for the v8 4.6 is 26320-3F100

A couple things to keep in mind. The posted thread may confuse you if you don't read it carefully.
1.You need a 27mm socket and a 1/2 inch ratchet to get the filter housing open. There's no getting around this, don't try using any other wrench as you can damage the housing and you will be F'd.
2. You can either drain the housing using the oil filter drain plug, you will need 6mm allen head screw or just slowly unscrew the cap and drain it out slowly or else you'll make a mess.
3. The paper filter element has two ends one with writing on it the other without. It doesn't matter which way you put it in, but just so you know my 4.6 came with the writing facing the open portion of the housing (FYI).
4. The oil plug is 17mm, you can also use a monkey wrench but you need a bigger one. Keep in mind if this is the first change the plug is on there VERY tight. I am not a small dude and it was a bitch to unscrew.
5. I used Mobil 1 5W-30 Synthetic, brand or type is one of personal preference too much arguing about this. It takes a while for the oil to drain out totally (a good 45mins-1hour). I put in 6 3/4 quart (manual says 6.87 qts.). Came out perfect. DON"T OVERFILL.
6. Make sure the rubber gasket lines up properly on the oil filter housing or else it may leak. I didn't bother with the oil filter housing drain plug gasket, cause I didn't drian the housing that way. It's up to you.
7. I'm sure you already know how to jack the car properly, with stands, level surface, parking brake and stops behind the back tires.

I know you prefer to do your own work, but your dealer didn't add the first oil change in as a complimentary service?

No they didn't. It's a common thing, I'm sure. As a token gesture of good faith and customer service/ brand image.
I asked how much it was and they said 40 bucks, 80 for synthetic. I did it for 33 bucks myself synthetic. I used Mobile 1 Synthetic 5w-30. I'm not convinced it makes that much difference in a consumer application. I mostly went with it because it was on sale at Costco. Otherwise, I think it's more important to change it more often and keep the oil clean, than to think that you can extend the life of the oil just cause it costs twice as much as conventional.

5-30? I thought our Tau used 0-20 .....

yes they did my first one for me for free but i like getting my hands dirty & i trust my work , never could trust the mechanics at the dealer or a shop

The owners manual lists 3 weights. 5w-20, 5w-30 and 10w-30. With the first two being recommended and the third being acceptable for warmer weather climates. I don't want to start a firestorm, but I'm in LA, it's summer went for 5-30. IF I lived in Arizona or Miami I would probably go for 10-30. If I lived in Minnesota or Maine, I'd probably go for 5-20.

I use M1 5-W30 here in AZ. It's the same oil I use in both of my Toyota's, so that makes it easy.
