  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis "base model" question

Some of what Mark says is true. You just have to know the car your driving before you drive it. I always use the old fashion method of turning my head before changing lanes. I use the blind spot system secondary, more like a back-up or warning. Regarding the $11,000 price difference, there is a lot more than just the HUD system. To me that is one of the more important features and one I think should become standard on every car along with the Automatic braking system.

That's what I said - it's not a replacement for driver awareness.

That said, with the BSD indicators in the HUD, I know if someone is in my blind spot before I even turn my head to check - very useful! Also, when changing lanes, it looks at cars approaching from behind even if not yet in your blind spot - if they are moving fast enough to be an issue, it will warn you as well. Again - super useful.

I have always been very diligent in checking before I change lanes, but, sometimes, I still get it wrong. With this system riding shotgun, I feel really confident that all is really clear even though I've looked too.

The cost/benefit ratio is a personal decision based on your individual financial situation and where you want to spend your money. But there is no disputing that the safety systems in the Genesis are really useful.

We can discuss the merits of safety features threatening good safety practices till we’re blue in the face. Nick is right it’s been acknowledged too many times that these tools don’t replace common sense, they are there as an assistant. The individual bears the responsibility for proper safety procedures. I will say this used within the proper scope they are very useful features. I for one do appreciate the ones in my Genesis.
