  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Connected Services

I use it almost every day. The reason I do it is because I hate how long the infotainment takes to load the navi and the USB data. So as I'm walking to the car I hit the start button. every second to give the unit a headstart is good to me.

You know...I really like this app (CDN version) but it is frustratingly slow.

It's winter, I like a warm car. I pull out my phone, select the Genesis app, hit lock doors because I don't know if I locked them as the car is in the garage.. enter code... wait.....wait...wait....wait... Finally, I get the message the doors are locked. Hit start engine, enter code again, wait...wait...wait...wait.... Finally engine starts. Whole process takes a couple minutes and several interactions. Ugh.

...meanwhile my wife takes out her phone and starts her Chevy Cruze in LESS than 10 seconds.

That's just wrong, no matter how you look at it.

Genesis, this needs fixing. If Chevy can do it that quick with their low end car.. you need to up your game big time.

Hang on, did I read this right that you START your car that's sitting in a CLOSED garage??

Ha ha, not exactly. I'm not sure if you're referring to the temperature, fumes or both but I'll cover them just in case. First, I live in Canada -- one of the coldest parts. So even in the garage it can get wicked cold. Second, when I start the car, I use my garage app to open the garage door.

I forgive you for not giving me enough credit

That quick start is actually kinda nice. I'll have to test the widget out again now. Wish they could get rid of the pin though. Or at least not require me to press a button to use the biometrics. Seems silly that I can unlock my phone by just touching the fingerprint sensor, but the app needs me to confirm that I want to use my fingerprint before reading it

-waits for Ed to remind me about lawyers and America's excess of litigation-

They updated the app and widgets this week. You can now use biometrics to start car via widgets. Worked fine for me since I started using it.

According to my memory (??) the unlock button has moved. After using the new version and locking I looked for several minutes to find unlock. Found it in a place I do not recall previously. Is it? (iOS).

I'm aware. I'm talking about cutting the step of tapping the "use biometrics" button before scanning your finger

Cdn version updated today (1.15.0) but no noticeable changes. Described as “General bug fixes and improvements”.

?? I don't have to tap anything like that. I tap the "start" widget on my home screen, and tap my finger on my reader and car starts. No tapping on "use biometrics". it already is set to watch for my finger.

Maybe I missed something. At least within the app, I had to go through that process yesterday (after updating) to start the car. Haven't tested the widget since updating, but it was like that for me last time I used it. (pre-update)

Just used it a minute ago. Tapped the start widget, tapped finger on scanner, car starts.

I guess my app updated within the last couple of days. I saw quick start feature under settings now so I toggled that on. It also made me re-do my finger print authorization. My start request failed as unable to process so not sure what failed that? I’ve restarted the app so afterwork tomorrow will try the quick start feature. Been a while since I’ve had a failure.

Yeah, I got a chance to try the widget the other day. Funny that they do it differently when you're in the full app vs from the widget.

Yeah, the widget makes things a lot quicker. I like it.

Ugh....subscription ends in a month and I dread paying them another $200 just to start the car. But being that it's an outdoor car 24/7, I really "need" the feature but hate the cost.

I wonder if I don't re-up will Hyundai start pushing "please come back!" offers or no?

my question is similar to that of alfer. mine runs out next month and wondering if there are any specials, discounts, discount codes, bundling discounts etc for the connected services.

anyone know?

thanks

tom

I renewed. No discounts offered. I was worried that if I let it completely expire it would be more trouble getting it restarted.

It’s a few hundred over a year. I didn’t perseverate over it. Folks here spend more that that on full synthetic oil change.

It's kind of a steep price for something you might not be using every day. After checking the website, I have 146 requests in ~9 months. If you do some estimation, that'd be over a dollar every time I used the app! Even cutting out the features I never use (The package with collision alert), I'd be around $1 per use.

I don’t look at it as a per use cost. I factor in the potential functionality of the features. If a had a collision and the alert went on I would consider that a big plus. If I never have a collision it is worth no less. i figure I have a great car with great features. If I didn’t have them I would miss them ever time I needed them I would miss them more than the per cost use reflects
