  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Coupe reliability -- first info -- please sign up

Initial reliability stats for the Genesis Coupe

We've released a reliability stat for the all-new 2010 Genesis Coupe that includes owner experiences through September 30, 2009.

We had 35 responses, but only an average of 2.5 months of data per car. So the amount of data was just over the minimum for a full result.

A big thanks to Sal, this forum, and everyone who participated for getting it there.

The reported repair rate of 81 repair trips per 100 cars per year is "about average," but not far from "worse than average."

We'll have further updates in February and May. Based on a close reading of the data, I expect the reported repair rate to improve in these updates, but to remain average.

The more owners participate, the better the information we can provide.

Updated results soon.

Among 2010 sport coupes, the Genesis continues to best represented, but the Camaro is catching up. 66 owners for the Genesis vs. 61 for the Camaro. In terms of those who participated in the survey last month, it was 48 vs. 46.

We start getting especially accurate results with 50 participants, so the Genesis Coupe is close.

We have updated results for the 2010 Genesis Coupe that include owner experiences through September 30, 2010. Other sources of car reliability information won't cover the months since April until the summer or even fall of next year.

The reported repair frequency of 81 repair trips per 100 cars per year has improved a bit, and is now "about average," if still close to "worse than average." Common problem areas include panel fits, rattles, and especially a no-start condition caused by a faulty brake light switch.

We have two additional statistics, "Nada-odds" and "Lemon-odds," to indicate the percentage of cars with no repairs in the past year and those that required 3+ trips to the repair shop.

In the case of the 2010 Genesis Coupe, the percentage with no repairs is about 42, and the percentage of lemons is about 6. These are not good numbers for a 2010.
