If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Lexicon Sound System

Frankly, using Bluetooth and expecting anything beyond mediocre sound is pointless. If you’re going to go to the trouble of even attempting at upgrade, take two seconds when you get in the car and plug in your cable. That will be the biggest improvement you can get.
Agree that the wired connection is by far better.. but the point remains that the subs (and I use that sparingly) are underwhelming if not completely useless

The only way to listen to music 'wired' is thru CarPlay (or AA), correct? I may try to listen to the difference with Spotify. I don't expect much difference, to be honest, but maybe there is. The best quality is probably with music files at the highest quality on a USB, no?

If you have iPhone you can stream lossless audio (need to go into Music settings in your phone) from Apple Music

Fair point. I actually forgot I had the aux cable in my center console this whole time, weird. So considering using that, what are your thoughts on a DSP/new amp with built in DSP or something else to unleash the system? I'm not too familiar with audio.

Hi Michael,

I'm currently still driving a VW Arteon and bought the "Original Volkswagen VW Helix Plug & Play Soundsystem" (~400€) and had it installed in the spare wheel well at VW (also another 400€). I will never do it again! Everything vibrates and rattles when you turn it up a bit. I'm totally disappointed in this part. And I miss the storage space that was lost as a result. Before that I installed the "Pioneer Ts-Wh500A" in my old Passat CC and it was really fun. I was always amazed at what came out of this little box. I've rarely heard such a clean bass before. I'm curious how the sound system in the G70 will be, I didn't have time for my test drive. If necessary, an active subwoofer comes in again. (Google Translator:-)

I would highly recommend an aftermarket subwoofer. Check out my post signature for info on the amp and subwoofer that i had installed. Also, take a look at page 11 of this thread and you will be able to see a picture of my trunk.

Yeah, it might be a while before mfrs adopt Hi-Res Wireless into their OEM audio systems. Both Stinger and G70 are next to impossible to change to aftermarket head unit, otherwise, that would open up possibilities. I've got a JVC HU in my GMC Savana that does have Hi-Res Wireless, and BT-streaming from Amazon Music Unlimited's 24-bit audio is pretty darn good.

Hi owners! I am a soon-to-be G70 owner. I'm wondering if somebody could comment in a bit more detail on the quality of the G70 Lexicon sound system? Every review seems to entirely gloss over this point. I have no experience with Lexicon (and little with Harman Kardon, its parent company).

I am a bit of an audiophile and I listen to a lot of music in the car, so I'd appreciate a nitpicky response. Any highlights / criticisms of the sound system?

I'm coming from a Mercedes C300 with a Burmeister sound system, which has been EXCELLENT. When I test drove the G70, I was not thrilled at first blush with the sound, but I think some of the setting were whacky and I didn't have time to fiddle or customize?

Thoughts? Grateful for any feedback!
Only the higher trims come with the 15 speaker lexicon stereo and speakers.

I too am for some people over the top with my audio gear and standards I find this system in both the 2022 G70 and 2023 Gv70 that I own to be just slightly better than okay not a great value imo. In my case I fade mostly but not all up front too much and the center channel was too strong hurting
the sound stage. I prefer the reference setting and Bluetooth from my phone or even better my Cayin N7 with hi rez and larger storage. For some reason usb thumb drives don't sound as well as the bluetooth ? I have in the past built and tuned an X3 with Dynaudio speakers and Helix dsp's
but just don't want to go through the trouble and just accept the Lexicon. Fwiw I drive mostly alone and can set it up for the driver.

My biggest complaint with the G70 is the imprecise stereo imaging and soundstage. The main culprit is the placement and aim of the front drivers. Not an easy to solve problem... at least not easy to fix and still maintain the OEM clean look.

You can read more on my take here: Playing music from USB Drive

2023 3.3T Sport w/Lexicon, took delivery Thursday Nov 16.

I don't know if it's the material or if something has changed, but I feel that my system sounded better a few days ago than it does now. I feel that with most material - whether through XM tuner, USB, BT or Carplay (music saved on iPhone or XM streaming) - almost all of the sound is coming from the centre channel until the volume is really cranked. I didn't feel it was that way when I picked it up on Thursday last week, but maybe I just didn't notice.

FWIW, I have the QLS set to "reference", treble around +2, mid -1, and bass +3. At lower volumes I hear tinny sound from the centre, after around 34 or 35 the others start to come alive and the sound becomes fuller... but it's waaaaay too f-ing loud to drive like that in town/traffic.

Any thoughts or advice?

Yeah, something is not right. I've never had my volume higher than like 25; 35 is crazy loud. Have you tried doing a reset by pressing the small recessed button that's near the volume dial?

The sound is only going to be as good as the source material you throw at it. Try playing some FLAC or WAV files wired or via a thumb drive to see if that improves anything. I tried XM during the free trial months and did not think it sounded good at all. I usually stream Amazon Music in their Ultra HD format if it's available and use the internal EQ on my Galaxy S23 Plus to tweak the sound. I'm pretty happy with the sound overall. Like others have said, there could be a bit more bass but an extra sub is not worth the effort to me personally.

thanks... it's not so much the bass as it is the crazy bias to the centre channel. I've used XM for years in my other cars, and although it's not the highest fidelity I've never found it to be that much of an issue in an automobile environment. I'm experiencing the same issues with radio, USB (320kbps MP3), iPhone via BT or Carplay. With iPhone and Carplay I don't believe you can adjust the sound at the source.

The "premium sound" option Bose Centerpoint system in the 2016 CTS I just traded in had all of the channels outputting sound at all volumes, and the centre channel just pulled the sound "up" and gave a nice front image; it had strong midbass but lacked the really low bass. The (also) "premium sound" option Bose Centerpoint system in my 997.2 does much the same as the one in the CTS, but sounds much tinnier at low volumes and needs to be louder to come alive.... but not to the same extent as the G70 Lexicon.
