  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Lexus should be embarrassed to add the F sport label to this car, the lack of a turbo 6 in the IS is laughable.

If I hadn't driven one before my G70, I would have thought the writer was biased. Unfortunately for Lexus, everything he said is spot on. There's a couple nice little features like the dials in the gauge cluster moving for different setups/modes, but overall the car has nothing going for it. Even the exhaust note is worse than the G70 despite the NA engine

Toyota/Lexus always plays it safe with stuff. It's their build quality that is amazing.
Look at their 4Runner.....it still has an ancient 4.1L V6 and 5AT.

toyota rests on their laurels far too much and lags behind advancement in many instances. either that, or they put all their effort into quality and everything else suffers...ha ha.

Not even on their bread and butter models like the Corollary, Camry, and Rav4?
Yeah kinda crazy, I think the only cars that have it just got it for the 2020 model year.

I have to say I like the look of the IS. That Predator grille, and the pewter/liquid metal looking silver/grey and their blue is sexy.
But they need the GS-F engine in the IS.

^ you're probably right.

the base M340i xdrive starts at just shy of $64k in CAD. plus freight & PDI, etc,, which adds another $2500. the G70 Sport AWD is $58k CAD, including freight & PDI. we don't get a RWD option for either, but i assume the spread would be relative.

so, a minimum of ~$8500 difference before options on the M340i. it does cross the line ahead of the G70, but at a steep premium so it should be faster to justify the cost.
I priced one out and tried to match options as close as possible for Canada
2020 M340 xDrive
Base MSRP - $61,850
Blue Paint - $895
Premium Excellence Pkg - $8,300 (this is needed to get lumbar, heated seats, HUD, driver assistance features, 360 cam)
Adaptive Suspension Option - $600
Frieght & PDI - $2,995
Admin Fee - $595
AC Tax - $100
Tire Tax - $16
Total - $76,551 before tax. Add 11% tax where I live on top of that.

That's with the base leather interior which won't be as nice either. It's not even close to a loaded 3.3t AWD. Yes it's a little faster, but the handling and steering won't be better. I'm sure you could negotiate a couple grand off the price but it's still going to hit $80,000 + after taxes. That's without any maintenance costs and you have to pay for apple car play as well I believe. Not a chance I would take that over the G70 unless money was no option. If that was the case I'd be looking at different cars anyways.

Sick of the backhanded compliments. Best "Non-German"? Screw that.

I would argue that its true. If you ignore the money related aspects of owning these cars (price, repair costs, ACP [for BMW, LOL], and maintenance costs) the German cars do beat the G70 in many ways. Obviously it depends on what you're looking for too because nothing really takes the cake in every category. But that is also a case for owning a G70 since it is a "jack of all trades" car, imo.

Would I trade my G70 in for a similarly priced German? Not a damn chance! But would I trade it for a fully loaded M340i or C43 AMG? Much more likely (if I ignore the ongoing costs of ownership lol)

Other (German) cars may do some things better, but a car doesn't have to be the best at absolutely everything to compete in that German tier. Like the Audi A4 isn't considered "less German" just because it doesn't have the driving dynamics of the BMW or Benz. That's because each car has its pros and cons amongst the top tier, and holding the G70 to a higher standard as a barrier of entry into the tier is just elitist and brand snobbery. I know you mentioned pros and cons, but I'm talking about the difference between "the G70 isn't as good overall but if you're looking for this one particular thing, the G70 does that well" vs "the G70 is just as good as the others and what's best for you comes down to personal preference".

As MotorTrend put it, the G70 isn't just a good car for a first try or for the value, but rather it's just a good car overall.

Nicely done. The M240 was on my short list... but quickly fell off when it didn't come with smart cruise control (I think BMW calls it active cruise control?) I think you covered that under "driver assistance".

Deal breaker when you spend 20-25 hours a week on the highway.

The Audi shortcoming especially the A4 is that it is a FWD car first and AWD second even though the engine in longitudinally mounted kinda like the Subaru. Plus the engine if further towards the front compared to other RWD based vehicles. The weight distribution for it is off.
However they did some clever thing for the 2017+ which made it very close to the BMW and MB.

Motormouth claiming the new m340i is better than the G70. He claimed last year that the G70 was the best car in the class, but thinks now the new 340i is the car to beat. Not surprised based on the price difference and it being a new model. Does a lot of comparisons with the G70 but the review was really lacking/vague in what makes the new 340i great.

The Throttle House guys say that the M340i is not that much more special than the 330i.
Motormouth loves the German brands. I think it is more of a familiarity thing for him. He was flown out to Europe to test it a while ago.

Motormouth guy is a tool. Avoid at all costs.

Lol. Motormouth can tongue punch my anus.

Seriously though, I'm sure the M340i is a sweet car. Even so, I still love my G70.

The new 3 series rear just screams Lexus to me, I don’t know why. Now the G70 rear? Sexiest one I’ve seen from the segment. All this aside, I doubt the m340i is worth the difference new.
