Can someone please comment on the G70 navigation real world usage? Do the maps look good? Is it a fast interface? How do you zoom the map while driving? Hoping it's not just pinch to zoom and that there is some capability to zoom with a knob. Decent use of way-points and POI's? What are your impressions of the nav compared to other class leaders; namely Audi?

Once the G70 is available in the US, I'll need to decide between it and the Audi A5 Sportback. Thanks

I prefer to use Carplay but navigation works fine; the turn-by-turn on the HUD is awesome. The maps look alright. Not as good as Apple or Google Maps. Interface is pretty fast. Faster than my TLX and CX5. You can assign the tone/tune knob to zoom in/out, I think.

I agree, i use android auto mostly but i reallllly love the turn by turn in the HUD when using the built in nav, the whole nav/control interface is mediocore and the same as my buddys elantra gt

How is the G70? Please don't tell me there is a max of 6 presets for each...and you have to switch bands to get to FM or Sirius/XM.

So if I use android auto, will the HUD not show the turn by turn navigation? That is the only thing that I needed for the top trim and I may instead opt for a lower trim 3.3T if the only useful info the HUD provides is the speed...

Apparently it shows blind spot detection on the HUD.

It shows Speed, blind spot detection, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise distance and speed, turn-by-turn with the factory nav (not sure about Android Auto navigation) and I think that's it. Or at least that's all that I've noticed.

As far as the radio goes, you can save both FM and Sirius into the same preset list. I'm not sure how many it can save - I've only got 5 saved on my car.

In the G70 they're all mixed together in one favourites menu, no limitations beyond a maximum cap of 40 stations.

Turn-by-turn directions in the HUD and cluster are not active if using Android Auto or CarPlay. Other items shown in the HUD:

- Speed
- Speed limit
- Blind spot indicators
- Lane Keep Assist status
- Forward Collision Avoidance notifications
- Cruise/Adaptive Cruise indicators
- Audio system setting changes (flash up before disappearing)

That's actually a bummer about the HUD turn-by-turn not working when AA or CP are active.

Regarding the factory NAV (as I have been too lazy to download and try Android Auto...) I find it better than some I have used like older Ford Sync and the one in my 2016 Grand Cherokee, but it is definitely a step below what I had in my BMW. Overall it looks fine and is reasonable quick, but zoomed out I had way more detail on idrive and with the G70 when zoomed in, there are maybe 8-10 3D buildings in the city I am in where my BMW had literally thousands. Right down to houses and rear detached garages would show up in 3D. Not the entire city, but pretty much all of the inner city. Also definitely doesn't look as good as a newer Audi. There is definitely some room for improvement here to make it more like a premium German car vs everyone else.

The S5 SB is probably one of the hottest cars around IMO...after the RS7

How do you like your S5 SB? Literally...it is the car I am getting if this G70 bs does not happen soon. Way more money though...I know.

I love it but also hate it sometimes. Well, hate is a strong word, but it's a car that could have been near perfect with the exception of one or two glaring issues.

Pros:
- Looks amazing and like a "sports car", even though it's more of a GT car. Gets some attention on the road for a car that that's around $66K but looks even more expensive. If that's your thing.
- Quattro AWD with the Sports differential is exceptional. Rides like rails around curves with the torque vectoring. Even on All Season tires. Quattro is very confidence inspiring.
- The exhaust sound in Sports dynamic mode is good but refined. The downshift exhaust sounds with the burp and pop sounds are great but not too over the top. Still sounds like an adult's car. I hate cars that sound like screeching banshees so this is perfect for me without any mods.
- The acceleration and turbo boost is perfect in Sports mode. Really fun in manual mode.
- The interior is top notch with great ambient lighting, controls, seats, virtual dashboard and screen. The flat bottom steering wheel is really really good. Just make sure not to get heated steering as you get the regular round steering wheel with that.
- Hatchback space is nice.
- ACC works well.

Cons
- Overpriced because of the badge
- The Google Earth integration in the Nav and virtual cockpit is more of a gimmick. Looks cool but is more distracting than anything when actually using built in Nav. Plus it will discontinued in 2020 as the Google contract will be up or something.
- The built is Nav is better than most cars, but still mediocre when compared to Android Auto Google Maps, which I use most of the time. You lose turn by turn nav on the HUD though.
- The center screen is not touch screen. Bad when using Android Auto. Fine for the built in Audi MMi.
- No Brake Hold feature. No technical reason for them not to have this. They have an electronic parking brake.
- The location of the cup holders is horrible. Minor issue.
- If you want ventilated seats, you have to give up sport seats. Minor issue.
- Acceleration in Auto D mode is simply bad. Hesitation/lag and makes the car feel like you're driving a truck. They likely did this for the better fuel economy numbers, but it still sucks. My Honda Accord is quicker from throttle input to the car moving in regular mode. Glaring issue as I have to drive in Sports mode in 90% of situations where there is traffic or around town where you need good response. But the engine tends to drone in Sports mode and you waste some more gas. This is my number one annoyance with the car.
- You can't permanently turn of Auto start/stop. The car is jerky with it on as the engine will turn off sometimes before you've fully stopped. Makes it appear like you don't know how to drive a car.
- Brakes are a little bit too touchy, but you get used to it.
- Rear visibility is not great, especially when backing out of a parking spot. This has more to do with the design of the sloping roofline. I don't love it and my second glaring issue, but I get that that's the design.

One more thing. Wait for the G70 if you can. I still love my S5 SB overall but it's not worth the price I paid for it for the 3 year lease. I wish I could have gotten a 1 year lease if those existed. Would have gotten it out my system with less of a hit on the paycheck. The car gets slightly less appealing the longer you drive it but the monthly payments still remain the same.

Rent it on Turo if you can find it.

Thanks for that...good info. I am a big Audi guy...on my 7th Audi now. '13 A4 Premium Plus. So I am very used to MMI and feel very comfortable in all Audi related controls. I drive very little miles...so gas and always being in Sport is fine with me

Gotcha. If you're an Audi guy already, you will like it. But the car does drone in S mode all the time and you have to set it in S mode each time you start the car, but that's easy to do. On the highway, I will still shift to D mode and it's perfectly fine.

Price difference between the S5 Sportback and G70 will likely be much smaller in the US so I would have a harder time choosing the G70. In Canada, the loaded G70 is a solid $20K less than the S5 Sportback (buddy of mine bought a 2018). But if the US/CAD price difference on the Kia is any indication, in the US the price difference will be closer to $10K extra for an S5 over the G70 and that makes for a tougher decision.

Actually...I disagree.

I am going by my math from the start...I predict the G70 for the 3.3 T Sport will be ~$54,600 USD.

I built the S5 SB (which is more than the S4 and S5 Coupe) with the same options that the G70 offers. So all the same specs, options, etc, etc. Comes out to almost $66k USD for me. Add the maintenance free stuff, etc...you are up to $70k USD.

So $15k USD is a lot to pay. And...you have to consider that the Audi is not chippable. If you get busted...yer done. The G70 has the piggy back that will make it a sub 4 second car...for < $1k USD.
