  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

I actually liked the straight pipes review very thorough. I don’t agree with their conclusions or opinions but they do a good job of actually reviewing the vehicle.

I could only imagine how much fun a a 3.3T + LSD + Rwd + Manual would be. Give me the nurburg green red brembos and the walnut /brown interior in the above format and I’d be a very happy man.

^ don't get me started. this would be ideal...for <5% of us! ha ha. i suspect anyone buying the 2.0T Sport 6MT would far prefer the 3.3T 6MT if it was available. but it's not, and it won't be so we'll take the lighter and more agile 2.0T trim and hope for tuner mods to bridge the gap.

Agreed sometimes it does feel like "first world problems" but it's still fun to dream of the spec many of us want. I'm just not sure the 2.0T (stock) has enough power given the weight of the G70. I'll test one out when we finally get them here but I bet it's dying for the JB4 tune.

^ indeed. this trim is begging for ~290-300hp, up from 255.

it is not slow, especially in the midrange, but no question the chassis feels slightly underwhelmed.

Haven't watched this yet, but I like the YouTuber.

^ decent takes overall, i don't disagree with many points made. except his take on sport mode. it is by far the best match for the 6MT driving dynamics and should be the default mode IMO. comfort mode introduces significant off-idle lag. even eco mode is better, but sport mode does a good job to counter this completely.

also, some of his criticism about it being a 'base model' is due to the odd packaging in the US trim. CAD got this right on most counts where we retain more luxury/sport features.

Kia is working on a more powerful variant of the Stinger using the 2.0T; can't see Genesis being OK w/ the G70 being outgunned by the Stinger.

Only way the G70 won't see a similar boost in power to the 2.0T (assuming that R-Spec Stinger makes it to production) would be if Genesis bypasses the 2.0T w/ greater boost for the new 2.5T.

Drive and Chat with Erwin. Note: SUV in about a year...and he mentions a sports car in 2 years. Interesting.

I spoke with a guy at corporate this week who said something similar--larger SUV, smaller SUV, followed by sports coupe. I had specifically asked about a coupe.

What did they have to say about the sports car? No additional details I guess?
No. Although I was not speaking with a director-level person. Beefer's contacts seem to be those that sit on the board. 😀
We were discussing a different issue and I mentioned that part of what had brought me to Genesis was that I really liked the coupe. And, by the time I was ready to look for a car, it had been discontinued. He is at corporate in California and mentioned that if what he is hearing is true, next up is larger SUV, then smaller SUV, and then coupe. All of that sounds similar to what Erwin was saying in the video posted directly above. Have to admit I will be curious about a Genesis coupe.

Basically, the GV80, GV70 and GT70 (only thing Raphael adds that's new is confirming the coupe; there hasn't been much of any info. about it, so there have been concerns that Genesis may have dropped it for something else).

All of which was part of the original road map (has since added the smaller GV60).

Also, Erwin was promoted to COO of Genesis Motors America.

I wonder if a sport exhaust was available on the V6 it would change some of the impressions for some like straight pipes. I like those guys but I will say that blanket Benz take completely ignored any price consideration, it's not even close...

Just thinking about the lack of G70 3.3T reviews from the big players. We had the one magazine do a crap review...they even admitted to conditions not being the best...giving the car a 4.7 sec romp to 60. That is such BS...it's laughable.

Other cars that come out have tons of testing done and 0-60 figures published. Not with this car. All the reviews quote the manufacturer's time.

Why aren't they doing hard core tests on this car? Why are they not putting up the car in direct head-to-head comparisons on the road?

My first thought is that the big players payoff these mags to do the tests...with favorable numbers. But that just can't be true...I think. Sure some mags favor some brands. Perhaps the other brands are afraid thus not allowing this to happen...or they're paying off the mags not to do it ;)

There is something really bizarre going on...and I wanted folk's thoughts on the matter.

I mean...this car is begging for head-to-head runs with the C43 AMG, S4, 2018 340i, etc, etc. It's like nobody is interested.

Since I own the car (now with a JB4)...I know what this thing can do...stock and otherwise. So I am not worried about the numbers.

Odd is all.

End of rant.

Apparently Genesis doesn't provide 0-60 numbers. So these numbers are basically circulated from whoever attempted the first test!

Yeah they do...they claim 4.5 seconds to 60 mph. It's the 2.0T that they are mysterious about.

Scroll to the 2nd section under Performance...

Maybe that's what Patrick meant when he said that to me then! Weird why leave time for one engine out!

It likely has to do with the $ or it could be the social media reception. When I see people talking about the G70 on social media it’s always a yeah but it’s still a Hyundai and Hyundai makes garbage statement. That may not be reality and may just be a cheap pop shot but it is a sentiment that Genesis will have to deal with when trying to take share from the luxury market. Brand snobs and poverty people likely will not be the demographics that Genesis will target.

The funny thing is the more hate I see from BMW owners and from the social media dregs the more I’m drawn to the G70. I think as long as they keep making beautiful vehicles that perform well at a decent value that brand identity will change and you’ll see the big boys start to review more Genesis. Christ if this had a Porsche logo Car and Driver would have reviewed every trim level and color by this point.
