  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

I actually like the rear end of the 3 series as well as the Lexus.

I do too! But something about the back feels off to me for the new 3 series.

The back looks childish...duel colored lights...they f’d up imo.

Like it doesn’t belong to the overall design?
I’m a way, yes. It doesn’t look bad. Maybe it is just the way it leads to the rear is what I don’t like.

Motormouth is a fan of Germans. His favorite cars are Porsches. To his credit though, he gave the G70 a good chance with his praise, and I think he may be more biased towards liking performance and the M340i is definitely more aggressively tuned than the G70. But yeah not mentioning the price delta is a big oversight.

As for back ends, I don't think we G70 fans have any ground to stand on criticizing BMW for copying Lexus. Look at the G70 rear end compared to the Mercedes C Class lol. I mean it looks good but it's definitely... Close.

Agreed, I was trying to imply that it didn’t feel like very BMW look wise. Genesis is still establishing their design appearance and obviously took inspiration from the competition. But hey, the G70 is one sexy car. The only gripe I have the is the fact their not full led lamps for the rear and the exclusion of the Genesis infotainment software launching in the new G90/G80. I think those two refreshes are finally introducing a more unique and distinguished look for Genesis. Probably will appear in a refresh of the G70.

100% agreed on all of this. The guy definitely didn't point out any particular way the M340i beats the G70 besides HP and 0-100km. I'm happy with my purchase

^ he did mention the high bmw pricetag if not explicitly the delta, although he discussed this in his G70 review. his test M340i stickered at $72k CAD. then you'll need to add shipping/PDI which is at least $2k. then the additional cost of servicing and the longer warranty of the Genesis. that turns the $72k into the $76-77k range before tax. the G70 (3.3T Sport) is $57.5k CAD including freight/PDI and 5 years of 'free' maintenance. very close to $20k more for a car that is slightly quicker and may have a few more tech goodies.

i don't doubt the new M340i is a sweet ride. many reviewers say it is better than the previous generation, but still not as good as the one before that from a handling and steering feel standpoint. the engine is a heavyweight and is rated lower than it puts out. if a guy must have the bmw badge and doesn't mind forking out the extra $20k then i'm sure he'll be happy with the decision. but if it is worth the 35% premium is tough to justify.

keep in mind that there will be countless 3 series on the road so it will not in any way stand out or be different than the rest. your secretary will likely have a leased one, as will their mom and nephew. so will all the young real estate agents and accounting interns.

In the comments section he repeatedly says the M340i is only 5K more than te G70. Not sure how he arrives at that price but I've priced them out in similar specs and the difference was much more.

^ yeah, he does say the M340i starts at ~$63k CAD which would be ~$5k more. that's for a base M340i, which you will never find or want. but he didn't add the freight/PDI which is $2k. so at a minimum the delta is $7k for a base M340i compared to a loaded G70 3.3T Sport. the 'free' 5 year G70 servicing have to be factored in though. and then any options on the M340i need to be added as well. his test car had $9-10k of options.

so the apples to apples comparison of his test car to a G70 3.3T is close to $20k delta.

The difference would be smaller for the US due to the higher price of the G70 in the US. Still, the difference still stands.

Agree with you except my G70 Dynamic 3.3T AWD cost 51K...

^ that’s wonderful for you, but the top model in CAD is 3.3T Sport that stickers for $58k CAD. 3.3T Dynamic was stickered at $52k CAD in 2019, not sure for 2020. He wouldn’t consider any incentives or rebates in his number, that is unreasonable. So comparing MSRPs is most practical.

Seems weird to me that you can get a top trim 2.0T for the same price as the 3.3T Dynamic - both $52k CAD.

My point was that if the M340i starts at 63K CAD and likely doesn't have as many options as the G70 dynamic has, then the gap in price is wide. 63K-52K=11K to start. To get the same options as my dynamic, I'm sure you'll need to add a few thousand more on the M340i. So 15K plus taxes etc..

So in reality, he shouldn't be comparing the top model G70 at 58K to the car he had.

I saw a new M340i at the local car show and it looked generic to me... Interior was alright but didn't stand out. Handling is reported to be slightly below the G70.. The only things that may be superior are the engine and transmission but marginally. Easily solved with a $500 JB4.

I wouldn't trade

Our Dynamic isn't the same as their Dynamic. Ours is basically an Elite 3.3TT and theirs is basically a Sport Plus.

^ interestingly, i see for MY '20 Genesis CAD has dropped the 3.3 Dynamic trim which was $52k for 2019. now they have the 3.3 Prestige at $56k then the 3.3 Sport at $58k. the 3.3 Prestige simply adds the requisite mechanical bits to the 2.0 Prestige package which is still $52k. all these bits were available on the '19 3.3 Dynamic which was $52k last year. so anyone (like Slip Angle) who grabbed a '19 3.3 Dynamic got a great deal and saved $4k over MY '20. but they already know that...

yes, the CAD 3.3 Dynamic does not have the same goodies as the US market does.

for the extra $2k to go from 3.3 Prestige to 3.3 Sport, that seems like another no-brainer unless a guy must have those sweet 10-spoke rims!

Pretty sure the 2020 Prestige adds a lot more than the 2019 Dynamic. 2019 Dynamic was a barebones 3.3TT.
Last year's Dynamic didn't have 360 camera, Nappa, front parking sensors, staggered 19" wheels, adaptive headlights, HUD, wireless charging pad, and power thigh extension which the 2.0T Prestige had.
