  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

C/D Initial Test Results (long-term 2.0T AT).

The G70 performed well at the track, but not outstandingly so, and by most metrics falls slightly behind the German competitors it seeks to match. Our example, which features the standard 252-hp 2.0-liter turbo four paired with an eight-speed automatic transmission, made it from zero to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, or notably behind the 5.1-second time we recorded for an Audi A4, as well as the 5.3 seconds returned by the BMW 330i. The G70's 7.7-second rolling-start time, from 5 to 60 mph, suggests that the eight-speed isn't fully masking the engine's turbo lag; the Audi and BMW both were a second or more quicker in that measurement.

The upgrade to the 2.5T can't come soon enough; and hopefully, that will be in conjunction w/ an upgrade to the transmission.

While the 8 spd AT is better than say, the AT in the Q50, its shifts aren't as quick as something like the ZF's 8 spd - the next transmission needs to be more performance-oriented.

Agreed completely. The tranny isn't bad, but the ZF8 is just better, in terms of shift speed.

In typical Korean fashion, I believe they will iterate until it matches or exceeds the competition, even if that means hiring ZF engineers until they get it right. Of course, transmissions aren't long for this world anyway, so maybe in this instance it wouldn't be worth it.

Amazing what a little discipline can achieve. Case in point a 4000 lbs. car with AWD and 365 HP on tap can achieve such efficiency. Hats off to those engineers for their diligent work. I know there could be those that say “well it’s an 8-speed transmission and the engines’ hardly turning”. So, what the fact is it does it. Now if the gas tank were a little bigger…..
30 MPG.webp

Fun...but...they don't know how to launch. Over 5 seconds to 60 in the G70...c'mon guys. Perhaps it's indeed the altitude as they say.

Yeah it is their altitude. They normally say subtract 1 second for regular altitude.

I mean there’s so much to be gleamed from this review if you look hard enough. First, you’re comparing a luxury sport “sedan” to a bonified track purpose muscle car. The muscle car with 115 more horses and “700” lbs. less weight. Just the mere fact that It can play in the same ball park is quite a tribute to its (G70) credentials. As expected, to be completely out classed it wasn’t. As an everyday car the driver said he’d have to go with the G70 with any hesitation. I recently posted an entry showing my G70 getting 30mpg of which I actually wound up with 31.5mpg. Let’s see how many Mustangs or which ones can do that. Yes, I’d say we have a hell of a machine here.

Interesting comment about the motor's power. I agree with him that it falls off at the top for sure but low end and mid range are great! To that point, I feel the car is a faster when manual shifting at about 5800rpm. If you look at the dyno curve, you see power drop off then.

That's the disadvantage of small turbos. Quick to spool and lots of low end torque but can't carry you through high rpm.

Watched this one this morning.

Yeah, it's not that they don't know how to launch. It's the high elevation. They always do their tests at elevation and it slows down all of the cars they test.

100% agree. If you're manually shifting, this thing will easily pull well into the triple digits without feeling out of breath

TFLNow review - 3.3TT Sport

Think Nathan goes a bit too far about the interior (it's nice, but could use some improvement, including design).

But he covers the 3 most oft repeated flaws - tight rear leg/foot and head room, smaller trunk than competitors and the same UI as Hyundai (could also use a larger screen - smaller Hyundais and Kias now are available w/ q 10.25" screen).

Another thing would add is the weight w/ respect to its size.

Not much one can do about that or the space issue 'til the next gen model, but the larger screen and UI should be added for the G70's refresh (doubt Genesis would do both a comprehensive facelift of both the sheetmetal and interior, so likely only getting the new Genesis design language for the exterior.

One thing about the smaller trunk space is that a full hybrid system would further compromise the space capacity (so a smaller capacity 48V battery system would be best).
It's odd that a fair number of reviews over the last year have said the boomerangs are fake. I wonder why that is? Just a lack of proper inspection or research I guess.

It's YouTube! None of these guys are actually professional auto journalists!

Are they blind though? Pretty sure the holes in the boomerang stare me in the face every time I get in the car :p

True. I guess they are also reviewing vehicles weekly and it’s pretty hard to get all features/options right on the money. The specifics probably start to blur a bit after reviewing so many vehicles.
