Genesis G70 Reviews

"Guy" is sexually ambivalent. Listen to people refer to a group of females who enter a restaurant, for example: "Hello, guys". I have asked women friends if they resent the word and they are accepting of "guys" as neutral. "Guy" may nudge closer to masculine as it refers to a single person whose gender is unique. It is generally confusing if thought about too much.

When I look at redesigns or mid cycle refresh, I try to think which will look better in 30 years. One of the best examples is the Corvette. The “mid year” (1963-67) are far more collectable than the next gen “mako shark“ deign.

The problem with so many mid year refreshes is that design elements are forced onto a car that was originally designed cohesively. Point being, the new headights/taillights just don’t flow with the overall design of the car. I also think the rear of the car is way too busy looking.

I’m betting that 25 years from now the outgoing design will be more desirable from a design standpoint.

but for those who have the 2022, please understand I would buy one. It’s not butt ugly like the new 4 series BMW.

I have been watching and reading about the pre-refresh G70 for years. Liked everything (except criticisms of the blacked-out chrome and roof rattles) about the car but just couldn't pull the trigger for some unknown reason. Then spotted advance photos of the '22 refresh and the last piece of the G70 puzzle fell into place.

For me, the gentle rounding of the front and rear corners (Bentley-esque"?) and the horizontal and wrap-around light assemblies brought the aesthetics of the vehicle into my have-to-have-it range. I didn't object to the old styling. For me, there was nothing distinguishing at the corners.

Now ending the first month of my Dark Forest Green 3.3TT Sport Prestige experience. I obsessively stare at the design elements every time I enter or exit this beauty. Future classic or not, this car makes every day a special day for me!

Glad you made the jump! I have the first gen but can fully appreciate both designs> The G70 is an excellent car, regardless of which version we all have. You're also in a great position to benefit from all the development that us first gen owners have gone through in terms of platform knowledge and upgrade should you decide to do any.
 

Synopsis - Matt really likes the FL G70, but if it were up to him, probably would get the Stinger due to the better 2nd row space (infant seat) and added practicality of the hatch.
 
Decent review. The G70 is a great car, and I really enjoy mine, but tight panel gaps?? Not on my car.

Makes sense.. The stinger makes a lot of sense if someone was buying their ONLY car, or had frequent need for the rear space - but if a larger 2nd vehicle is on hand then the G70 is so much nicer looking.
 
Just picked up a 22 g70 base mallorca 3.3 awd…I’m impressed. I owned a 2010 genesis coupe 3.8 track for 10 years/177k before trading it in for a Tacoma which I traded in for the G70

This thing checks all the boxes for a small sports sedan. The performance is phenomenal and it looks good.

The only thing I can say that I’m not use to is the turbo lag..never had a turboed vehicle before.

Probably sounds weird but I wanted either a charger scat pack or this car. In the end the charger’s are going for stupid money right now and I wanted something I could hit WOT and not worry about my back end sliding out. It also never really felt like a $45k+ car when I sat in it..everything but the engine seemed cheap.

In the end I wanted a car that looked good and I could drive it like I stole it without dying in it and I think Genesis accomplished that.
 
I really don't notice any turbo lag with mine 🤔 I've read that about the 2L motor.

While I usually respect and trust C&D's test data, they've got me scratching my head with that 34mpg highway mileage figure at 75MPH! I've never seen anything over 27 actual MPG. Seems very odd that they measured 9 MPG higher than the EPA number. That's unheard of, and I presume that's how they came to an equally crazy range of 530 miles. Again, I've never even gotten 400 highway miles on a tankful - of course I've never tried running it dry.

Yeah I *might* kiss 30mpg if I had the cruise set to 70 on a flat road. But by the same token, the type of gas, altitude, and smoothness of the highway can make a dramatic difference in fuel economy (along with the obvious number of starts/stops). I once got 500 miles on my previous V8 Genesis when I was driving through New Mexico, when normally I'd have been lucky to get just a bit past 400 in Texas. I also notice that I got better mileage when using pure gasoline vs gasoline with ethanol in it. Quite literally, YMMV.

When I was driving my G70 home from Oklahoma City when driving home from the dealership, I at one point was hanging around 60MPH and saw that kind of mileage. Haven't seen anything close since 😁
 
I got 30mpg on the dash computer a couple weeks ago driving from the bay area to LA. Eco mode all the way, in and out of adaptive cruise.

Definitely drove well faster than 70 most of the way, and there are some considerable hills getting into LA (might be net downhill though, not sure).
 
just returned from a ~1600 km (1000 miles) round trip to Jasper AB, averaging ~110 km/h (70 mph). the trip computer says 7.4l/100km (31.8 mpUSg) overall for the trip.

keep in mind i'm a 2.0T 6MT, but i was set to JB4 Map 1 the whole way, and was up above 140+ km/h (85+ mph) for extended periods over mountainous terrain on the Coquihalla hwy (a.k.a. the "Highway Thru Hell"). car was loaded with 4 people and luggage.

i was impressed with the range. against my expectations, i made it 740kms (460 miles) between fuel ups when the gas light just came on, with range to spare but it didn't make sense to push it.

just spitballing, but if i had driven slower the range would likely have been ~7l/100km or less (~35mpUSg). EPA rating is 28 mpUSg highway, so even with my much less efficient and non-EPA circuit i beat it handily. i know the JB4 helps with efficiency so this may have played a part.

overall i was happy with the range, fuel economy and performance. at no point did i feel underpowered. lots of passing was required when the road narrowed to 2 lanes and after a downshift to 5th i made short work of the pass. often i left it in 6th which did the trick.

sure, the 3.3T/RWD/LSD/6MT would have been my preferred choice, but the 2.0T w/JB4 continues to impress. clearly the 6MT is not well set up for 0-100 launches. it does much better in the mid-to-upper range, so that works out great when on the road at speed when you actually need the performance for passing, etc.
