If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G70 Reviews

just returned from a ~1600 km (1000 miles) round trip to Jasper AB, averaging ~110 km/h (70 mph). the trip computer says 7.4l/100km (31.8 mpUSg) overall for the trip.

keep in mind i'm a 2.0T 6MT, but i was set to JB4 Map 1 the whole way, and was up above 140+ km/h (85+ mph) for extended periods over mountainous terrain on the Coquihalla hwy (a.k.a. the "Highway Thru Hell"). car was loaded with 4 people and luggage.

i was impressed with the range. against my expectations, i made it 740kms (460 miles) between fuel ups when the gas light just came on, with range to spare but it didn't make sense to push it.

just spitballing, but if i had driven slower the range would likely have been ~7l/100km or less (~35mpUSg). EPA rating is 28 mpUSg highway, so even with my much less efficient and non-EPA circuit i beat it handily. i know the JB4 helps with efficiency so this may have played a part.

overall i was happy with the range, fuel economy and performance. at no point did i feel underpowered. lots of passing was required when the road narrowed to 2 lanes and after a downshift to 5th i made short work of the pass. often i left it in 6th which did the trick.

sure, the 3.3T/RWD/LSD/6MT would have been my preferred choice, but the 2.0T w/JB4 continues to impress. clearly the 6MT is not well set up for 0-100 launches. it does much better in the mid-to-upper range, so that works out great when on the road at speed when you actually need the performance for passing, etc.
G70 2.0 AT AWD
My average is almost the same. (~130-140kmph) but last month I tried some conservative driving using cruise control and the was averaging between 6.5 to 6.8 l/100kms.

Thanks for the link @KusaKusa. I read it in Jeremy Clarkson's voice, haha.
I'm surprised the UK isn't getting the V6. Too bad. I was also surprised they thought the seats were so wonderfully comfortable, but weren't pleased with the suspension/chassis.
I did find the comment about the steering wheel, "The wheel itself is much more slender than the overstuffed black puddings the German suspects are doing at the moment, and all the better for it" to be spot on. BMW have been making their steering wheels comically thick the last few years.

very odd packaging and release planning by Genesis for UK. i don't blame them for feeling somewhat jilted that they didn't get the G70 until 2022 model year. and when they finally did, they only got the i4 variants. and no manual, which are far more common over in EU. interesting power rating of the 2.0T - 195hp and 242hp. haven't heard of those tunes before. maybe it is a fuel thing, but i find that odd since i saw octane availability up to ~98 octane last time i was in europe. don't recall seeing octane under 91 actually. maybe they rate their fuels differently, don't know.

so yeah, they are getting a 4 year old car (dismissing the facelift) and with marginalized powertrains. i wouldn't be too thrilled either. Genesis hasn't done themselves any favours - at least with discerning auto enthusiast journalists.

I'm thinking it's because the 3.3T isn't green enough. From what I could find, the Euro 6d emission standard for petrol engines says passenger cars must emit less than 126 mg/km when road tested. The 3.3T emits 284 mg/km...

Good sleuthing!

Kia now only offers the Stinger with the 3.3TT, but they likely will discontinue the Stinger due to the more stringent regs.

Think another reason may be that Genesis wants to lower its fleet CO emissions, as the upcoming penalties will not only wipe away any profits Genesis would make in Europe, but cost them a serious amount in penalties.

That's why getting the GV60 and the electric GV70 and G80 to market is so important for Genesis Europe.

They also should have moved to a 48V system earlier than they are - with the 1st one due in the new G90.

Goose has a review of the refresh:

In short, he likes it, even more than the TLX Type S, but it feels like he and Jack didn't do their research that well this time. They claim the 3.3TT is a single turbo rather than a twin turbo, and that the G70 is priced at the same level as the Germans when there's a ~15K difference at about every level. He also seems to completely ignore the drift mode on the AWD version.

Some others in the GV70 forum have noted that he's being a bit more complacent lately, and I hope that's not the case. But this isn't helping him out.

Yeah, agree with you.

Overall I get what they are trying to convey and I probably agree with 85% but they didn't do quite enough homework. A few too many inconsistencies. It's true the brake pads are poor for any type of performance more than spirited driving. The Euro spec pads fix that but they should have come on the NA spec G70s to begin with. The gauge cluster on the new G70 isn't very premium in my opinion. On one hand he would say the rear is disconnected from the front and then say the handling reminded him of previous generation BMWs. That doesn't add up and most every other reviewer loves the handling of the G70 (rwd and awd).. He says the car is very heavy but it's the same weight as the M340i... A few technical stumbles that didn't lend credibility.... Not big deals but people expect more from reviewers. The awd has drift mode, which not only makes it RWD but also allows the rear to step out and drift... They should know that if they did the technical research. The biggest issue I have is that they are completely wrong about pricing. The Germans comparably equipped are far more expensive

He's had a bone to pick with Genesis because he flew to another state to buy a G80, and got screwed by the dealer and didn't wind up buying it. I remember reading that he was also pissed that he couldn't get review car from Genesis when the G70 came out - that's why he went to Canada.

I find it strange how he talks about choosing an M340i over the G70 since they're similar in price. They're over 10k apart when similarly equiped. As to quality - he bought and quickly sold a used BMW M3 because it kept breaking. I still have a 2012 535i with 100k miles that my daughter took to college. I will never own another BMW - they have constant problems, and when you check the BMW forums, it's clear that they still do. I don't lease my cars, so SavageGeese's attitude to just lease German cars doesn't sit well with me. If I'm going to buy 65K to 100K+ car, I'm apparently an outlier for expecting quality.

German take on the 2.0T.

Mark's bias against Genesis keeps showing up when he regurgitates the same refrain (who's going to buy this over a German?) in every Genesis review, not to mention the already mentioned errors.

Don't understand why he (once again) asked that question when he pretty much answered thst himself earlier, when he stated that German "buyers" tend to be lessees and typically don't hold beyond the lease term and the IS 500 is outdated tech-wise.

And unlike the GV70, the current G70 undercuts the RWD Germans by quite a bit (it's one thing to say that about the GV70 which is closer in price, but still undercutting the X3 and GLC).

Says something when Thomas (Autogefuhl) is more even handed in his views.

Good comparison. I think they really hit the nail on the head. The Gulia is a beauty. Too bad they aren't more reliable.

Never found the Gulia or other current Alfas particularly striking due to those goofy lobster claw headlights which are too reminiscent of the old Sonata hybrid.

Now, the 8C Competezione otoh was a thing of beauty, and even like the new Alfa design language as seen in the upcoming Tonale.

Thomas is German but he's no fanboy of German brands. Just watch his recent EQE video.

What I find bizarre about Goose's love for Acura/Honda products is that behind the scenes, Hondacura's PR team treat him like garbage. That's why he had to go get a viewer's Accord to review instead of Honda giving him a press car. The guy who gave Mark the Accord to review spilled the beans on Acurazine, and I'm sure someone can pull up that post.

And despite this, he's still completely unapologetically a fanboy of all their products. He's mad at Genesis because of his one-off experience with a Hyundai dealer, but is totally okay with Honda's entire PR team giving him the middle finger? With brand devotion like that, no wonder Acura expects something as mediocre as the TLX Type S to sell well.

Just got a ‘22 3.3T a few months ago and it’s a great daily driver. I look forward to enhancing its performance and power. Was looking at the M240i but think once I’m done with the changes I plan to make on this car, I will have made the better choice going with the G70. So far so good!

Agree that Thomas isn't a fan boy as he seems to be pretty objective ,but c'mon, we're talking the EQE here (which hasn't exactly been lighting up the reviews).

In general, Thomas has held the German lux make vehicles (with a few exceptions) in high regard as he should.
