  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis G80 Most Reported Problems Log

Nope, no vents closed off. What is happening is that the evaporator is icing over. It can happen with high humidity and lower cooling loads. You can reduce the chances of it happening by selecting recycle. Once it happens, you can clear it in a few minutes by turning the compressor off and leaving the fan on.
You may be slightly low on refrigerant, which makes this more likely to happen.

I don't think so. Although I'm sure that's possible, you wouldn't be getting cold air out of one side and warm out of the other.
In the second case above I simply switched off the climate control and switched it back on and everything was fine.

Personally I never used the folding mirrors unless I had no choice in a parking lot. Found they were unnecessary and just another item prone to problems.
Mine only fold in about halfway, so it helps some but not a lot. I like it in crowded parking lots and in my own garage.

My 2021 G80 3.5 Prestige is about 3 years old and 10.5K miles. Haven't had any problems at all with the vehicle until yesterday when the "Check Lane Change Assist Function" warning light came on. It beeps (loudly) about every 2 minutes. The dealer says I need a new AVN module and will take a few days to order. In the meantime, I'm getting my last free oil change.

My dealership completed a new Genesis only section with a separate Sales and Service department. What a change! The old service department was a dump. The new one is nice and I actually felt a little of the "luxury" experience that I expected when I bought the car. They even offered valet service! Hmmm, if the fix of the above problem works and I have a nice experience, I MIGHT consider Genesis again for my next car.

Seem to have a couple computer related sporadic problems.

1. Sometimes when I start the car I get a BSD warning indicting that Blind Spot Detection is not working properly. When this happens, the driver side mirror cannot be adjusted and it won't fold in or out. If I shut off the car, open and close the door and restart the car, the problem goes away.

2. When it is colder than ~60 degrees F. The driver side mirror will not unfold as you approach the car, and will not fold when you lock the car. It still works with the control button and works normally in warm weather.

3. Very Sporadic problems with the Heat/AC vents. On one warm day it was blowing warm air on one side of the car and cold on the other side. On another occasion the fan was running like crazy but no air was coming out. Apparently, the vents were closed off somewhere behind the dash. Shutting off the car, walking away and coming back a little later resolved the problem.

Of course these are the sort of problems a dealer can never duplicate. Not even worth the trip.

2018 G80 5.0 Ultimate.

Follow Up: Took the car to the dealership and they did find a code for the BSD warning issue. After performing a level 3 diagnostic ($179) they found a fault in the mirror and determined it needed to be replaced. It's a $2000 mirror and it along with the diagnostic fee were covered by my extended warranty.

Also, they evacuated and refilled the refrigerant in the AC, and it was low. Hopefully that will solve the problem. That was not covered by the extended warranty.

If it was low - then you have a leak in the system, and will face problems again soon. When they found it was low upon evac - they should have done further testing to ID where the leak(s) are and provide a repair estimate (if AC is not covered by extended).

As is standard practice, when they refilled, they put in the dye to show where any leak might be. If I have a problem they will be able to determine where the leak is, and if they confirm a leak, the extended warranty will cover it. I have another 32K miles on my extended warranty, so another two years.

While I agree, it is possible that it is minor out-gassing through one or more of the hoses and the loss rate may be low enough that it will go years before it needs to be topped off again. In that case, it's cheaper to just fill it...

Prices have really gone up since the last time I had that sort of work done. Over $400 now.

Well, here's a new one for you. I was driving about 70 on the highway and heard a really loud noise underneath the front of the car. I pulled over as soon as I could and noticed the front splash guard had come dislodged and was dragging on the ground. This guard is basically a cardboard like piece about 3' x 5' that covers the bottom part of the engine. I had to rip off as much as I could just to drive home.

Took it to the dealership and of course it's not covered by warranty because they claim I either ran over something (I didn't) or the wind caused the piece to break it's fasteners. It will cost $555 to have the part replaced. Ugh! Anybody ever heard of this happening?

Was it the splash guard or one of the underbody panels. I had mine in for an oil change last summer and the tech didn't properly replace the underbody panel that has to be removed to do the oil change. It dropped down and dragged along the highway on my way home. By the time I got home, half of it had worn away. They did replace it at no cost to me because it was their fault, but it took a while to get the part and another trip back to the dealership.

They called it a splash guard. It's the underbody panel that is attached to the front bumper and goes back a couple of feet.

The piece that came down on mine was only about 1ft X 1ft. Just an estimate of size as only part of it was left by the time I got home. It wasn't 3' X 5' as in Patricka5's case.
