  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

My vehicle has been at the repair facility for 8 days now. Very sketchy as to when and what is wrong. This is the worst service I have ever had with any vehicle. If Genesis wants to keep sponsoring Golf tournaments as of last week and have this kind of quality and service, you are not going to make it. Very, very disappointed that I changed from BMW to this brand.

I'm sure you are disappointed. I know I would be after a day or so. Unfortunately, every car manufacturer occasionally has these problems and you got the one.

Once you get trough this, I'm sure you will finally get to enjoy the benefits of your car. One reason I bought Genesis was the quality and lack of problems I'd had with other brands.

I have had 3 BMW's over the last 12 years. Only had a windshield wiper fluid motor go out. I have read that Genesis since 2014 has had transmission fluid leak problems. Very, very unhappy with quality and service at this time.

I love my 2017 G90 and have found it to be mechanically sound!

I loved mine too until it literally overheated and stopped on a Phoenix freeway last week. In the shop 8 days. Picked it up today and I was told they will probably be issuing a recall on this issue of leaking o rings. Too bad it wasn't issued last week when I was stranded on a Phoenix freeway. The week before I drove from Phoenix to San Diego on Interstate 8, which is about 1 mile from the Mexican border. Thank God this did not happen when I was on this trip. Stranded in the middle of no where! This has been an issue with Genesis since 2014.

I've had several issues with my 90 Ultimate with 3,000 miles but Genesis corporate has been assisting all the way. Hopefully going into the shop for the last time tomorrow.

It might not be a good financial move, but have you considered moving on to something else?

I am leasing. When the lease is up, I will go back to BMW.

Do you mind sharing with us what kind of issues you've had? Thanks.

I'm in Glendale and had the same problem, with the O Ring.
Was lucky I noticed mine when we got no heat. There is a TSB
out on the problem, But they don't fix till it goes out.
I also have a lease and will switch brands after it is up.
Like the car a lot, But don't dare take car on trips when
Grand children are with me. 3 Trips to North Carolina and
2018 G90 ultimate had problems all three trips

What dealership do you go to for service?

I have taken it to Earnhardt San Tan in Gilbert 3 times (G90 2018) and disappointed beyond belief each time. After making an appointment was turned away because they did not have anyone to work on the vehicle. (See my Yelp write up) Now I take it to Chapman and get first class service and they give me a Genesis while it is being worked on. I just wonder if someone in the US in Genesis upper management, including their CEO who was on the golf tournament being interview last week, reads these. They have a lot of work to turn this issue around. I love the car, but the service and quality are very bad.

I suggest that you contact the regional Genesis representative and set up a meeting with her/him to voice your issues.

This a transmission issue or the issue that Gene2 had which was in the engine bay? Also, what is your mileage Ann?

Gene2, appreciate it if you can tell us more about this particular problem involving an O ring.
First, what symptom did you have because of this O ring failure?
Secondly, is this O ring part of the engine or transmission, or something else?
Did this O ring cause loss of fluid? What fluid? Gradual loss or rapid loss?
You said you got no heat, was having no heat related to this O ring problem?
Finally, what did they do to fix your O ring problem?

I plan to take long road trips with my G90 and would really like to know what I should be prepared for in case this happens to me.

This a transmission issue or the issue that Gene2 had which was in the engine bay? Also, what is your mileage Ann? 8400 miles. It is an oring issue that has to do with the transmission fluid. I have a detailed summary on my repair paperwork. I did notice my heater was not heating up as expected. Then driving about 5 miles on the Phoenix freeway and the engine over heating message on the dash, and the gauge went all the way to hot. Lots of hot air came out of the dash vents. No other symptoms.

I take mine to Larry Miller in Peoria. Avoid them like the plague.
The only way to deal with them is have them pick the car up, Then
you might get a Sonata if lucky

First time We had a problem, car was new, almost no miles yet. We travel from Glendale, AZ to North Carolina
round trip about 2 times a year. Then one time to Upstate New York once a year.
First trip. Out of no where doing 70 mph side wall of tire blows out in the middle of no where.
No one has a tire to fit. Nearest one Genesis could locate was over 400 miles away. Wound up with a not exact fit tire
for over 4000miles till we got home.
Had to pay for the tire myself because dealership wouldn't call continental to verify the tire blew out. I keep the tire
all that time. Finally got Genesis to repay me for a new tire.
Next trip, just before the trip air bag light comes on. dealership said they repaired it. 200 miles into trip, guess what lights up again
2000 miles later a dealership finally works on car. 300 miles heading home no air bags again. We have a Great grand daughter
in the car with us. Finally got a service rep from Genesis to find the problem.
Will continue more tomorrow

Ann indicated transmission issue but her descriptions of the symptom are more commonly associated with sudden loss of engine coolant in the cooling system. When the cooling system loses enough coolant, the heater won't produce heat and engine overheats causing temp gauge to rise. If overheating is severe, steam can escape from cooling system and possibly gets into the cabin via fresh air vent. So I don't understand exactly what went wrong with Ann's car. How does transmission problem cause engine to overheat?

This is from the invoice. "Vehicle started to overheat now bad coolant odor emitting. Heater stopped heating. Verified low coolant level. Inspect for coolant leak. Residue down back of engine block. Pressure test cooling system. Leak from back of engine, unable to determine location. Remove intake manifold to gain access. Pressure test cooling system. Verified ATF warmer pipe o ring leaking coolant. Perform tsb 18 at 017 1. Replace leaking o ring at atf warmer pipe connector. Reinstall intake manifold with new gaskets. Fill cooling system with 1.5 gal coolant mix and perform bleed procedure. There are parts used and some other info but this is the core of what they did. I have no idea if any damage was done to the vehicle as I drove it about 5 mile to the dealership once the overheating light came on. Dealership says no damage.
