  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

I'm no expert either. I have done a lot of research as you have and when it comes to luxury vehicles and their paint jobs, it has always been recommended that you never take a car to a brushless/touchless wash. It is supposed to to induce swirls in the paint job.

However, for me, when it comes to winter months I have no choice. We don't get warm days where I can trust turning the water on.

I can see the matte green poses even bigger challenges.
My hose runs from my kitchen sink to my car parked 15ft to 20 ft away. The freezing isn't an issue for me there. We also get lots of days over 40 degrees where I live in southern most Maine. Ideally finding a place to wash it in doors is best.

My only issue with matte finishes is how do you buff out scratches or other defects. I would install a clear bra like Xpel on the front at least to protect it from rocks, etc

I agree on some extra protection on the front. Two things about matte finishes. One, they don't scratch as easy as a gloss finish. They are NOTa lot tougher to scratch but a little tougher to scratch. Two, small scratches are a lot less noticeable because of the way light refracts off of the matte finish. Sadly any major scratched and you are screwed. Usually requires a repaint on the panel and even with the best color matching it may still be noticeable.

Both these statements are completely false!!!

It scratches like any other finish. Scratches/swirls are MUCH more noticeable since there is no gloss/metallic/shine to hide them.

Removing imperfections is a PITFA. Repainting is a PITFA.

As good as it looks…I would never get matte.

"People like to say matte scratches more easily than glossy, but that’s not exactly true! In fact, the rampant micro-marring you often see from poor wash technique is almost never seen on matte paint. Matte paint isn’t scratch-proof, obviously, but you’ll likely never have issues with wash marks at the very least."

^ What's your point? Both your statements are still false.

I know how to post links too !

Maybe at this point we are just playing semantics. I do agree that that "normal scratches" are bad and an excellent reason why someone shouldn't get a car with a matte finish. But when I said small scratches I meant minor scratches like swirl marks like I posted from that link. I posted the link to clarify what I meant. I wasn't wrong you just misunderstood. I should have been more clear on my original post.

But minor scratches and swirl marks are harder to see because of the way light reflects off of matte finish at different angles which is what makes it matte. If I find the video that goes into the technical reason why I will post it.

We could argue semantics like children all day long. But ultimately each person looking to buy a car with a matte finish should do their research first. It's not for everyone. My brother likes to use car washes and won't get one for that reason alone.

it's also illegal in many places to wash your car in a paved driveway, which is something to consider/research even if one is thinking "I'll just wash it myself by hand".

Hmmmmm, I though this thread was about reviews for the GV70 but it seems to be all about how to take care of matte finishes. I'm pretty sure there is already a thread for that.

Not trying to be the thread police but when I see this thread growing I'm hoping to see more reviews of the GV70. Just sayin'....

You are correct. It's partly my fault. I apologize.

And there are still no reviews of the 2.5 T in the USA? Huh?

There likely won't be press fleet reviews any time soon; any reviews of the 2.5T will be of a YT reviewer getting one off the dealer lot.

Thanks... Key word " late"..

0-60 in 4.9 isn't bad. That's faster than the SQ5 which did it in 5.1.

Also blows away the Jaguar F-Pace which did it in 5.5s:

The inline 6 in the Benz and Bimmer are still the fastest by a country mile, but the Benz won't be holding onto that 6-cylinder when it gets redesigned for next year.

The new 2021 SQ5 is a good bit quicker than both at 4.7 sec. Same HP as the old one, but better gearing. I wonder if the Genesis could have had a better gearing or shifting re-map. It has enough power to be faster than it is.

Just saw the "new" Genesis GV70 commercial on the Monday night NFL game. Really? That's how you showcase this new vehicle? Welcome to 2021.... Terrible.

Head of marketing is a female. Obvious who the target audience is, but yea, MNF? Also recently saw a new commercial for the QX60. Same target audience. Could be Genesis know what they are doing. Spouse is in love with "her" GV70.

I was moe referring to the content of the ad. I saw the car twice. The rest was woke pandering..

Again.. key words "late and tardy". They blew the launch of this. They just did.
