  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

Think Motor1 was being a bit too generous in their assessment of the NX, primarily their take on the interior.

That dash design is simply atrocious and in no way looks upscale; the Tucson has a dash design that looks more premium.
Motor1 tends to be pretty generous to Lexus products. They raved about the middling LX600 when pretty much every other publication wasn't all that moved by it. But even their bias wasn't enough for them to take the NX over the GV70, objectively no sane person would unless they want a hybrid or just really crave the Lexus badge and reputation.

Test drove the NX350h in the UK yesterday and didn't take long to cross it off my short list which now is between x3 and gv70.

My current Skoda Kodiaq drives allot smooth and better. Power was good but very jittery and not refined at all. The salesman was quick to realise i wan't going to take the nx any further. lol

Disagree a bit on "objectively no sane person would choose Lexus NX over the GV70".

The Lexus brand means nothing to me, matter of fact I consider it a negative due to the inherent and unavoidable snob element. On the other hand, I love the GV70, design, colors, and style, specifically the 3.5TT Sport Prestige, and am ready and would buy one if it was possible, but at this point there's no inventory, no dealers within hundreds of miles, except relatively poor reputation Hyundai dealers, and apparently no parts if something goes wrong. Oh, and the $~6,000 additional dealer price adjustment, makes them ~$70,000 as I want it configured in my area.

I want to buy the GV70, but might have to settle for the NX. As it is right now, we can wait for a while and see if things sort themselves out.

Right now I'm hoping Genesis gets their sh*t together on the vehicle inventory, and parts inventory, and dealer network, but we can only wait so long.

You just proved my point- those attributes have nothing to do with the vehicles themselves but the brand. And quite frankly, parts shortage and dealer adjustements apply to Lexus and all other brands currently too.

I proved your point?

You said "objectively no sane person would (choose the NX over the GV70) unless they want a hybrid or just really crave the Lexus badge and reputation".

I don't want a Hybrid, nor do I crave the Lexus badge and reputation.

Yes. Your complaints are about the dealerships. Dealerships are part of the brand. If you can list any objective metric in which the NX is a better vehicle than the GV70, I'm all ears.

EDIT: Lol, I see this butthurt Toyota fanboy has blocked me.

It doesn't ride well because Lexus ironically wanted to be "more like the Germans" and thus gave the NX run-flats. It's funny how Toyota and Lexus fans claim that Lexus isn't doing things like the Germans for the sake of longeivity, and yet backpedal when Lexus imitates them years later with worse results.

Now Toyota and Lexus fans are desperately trying to save face after the new Tundra came out the factory with turbo wastegate issues.

I wanted to give a brief honest review of my 2-week old GV70 build quality. I have the 3.5T Sport Prestige GV70 and I'm loving it. I've owned many brands in the past, most relatable for comparison, Audi, Lexus, and MB. I can say first hand that the build quality and attention to detail is at the level and surpasses both brands.

I work on my own cars and have experience taking apart interiors for improved sound deadening and sound system isolation. I've done so to every car I've owned. Just finished added sound deadening to my GV70 and I have to say that the build quality in the GV70 is the best I've seen. The deadening within the door panels, the way the wiring and switches were neatly concealed and wrapped in felt, and the overall layout of the interior panels was superb. I barely added any extra material of my own, which says a lot! I know most people won't understand but it means a lot to me when a brand/vehicle takes the time to properly engineer and take everything into account. Especially the things you can't see like behind interior panels. It's easy to make the surface materials excellent, but it's another to actually build a solid vehicle from the ground up.

This is something I've always noticed with german brands. The vehicle will look beautiful on the surface but if you ever have the chance or reason to look behind the surface, for instance removing interior panels, you'll see otherwise. Cheap plastic, wires not neatly arranged or wrapped, barely any sound deadening, zero vibration absorbing materials which causes rattles not only from the engine but also the sound system. One of the biggest reasons people hear rattles are from the robust/premium sound systems car brands are shoving into vehicles without the proper deadening or isolation. Yes, these systems are great and have huge potential but fall flat when they do nothing but cause rattles and are over powered for the area they reside in. Again, I am a stickler for things like this as you can tell, so I don't expect people to fully understand.

In a nutshell, this is the first premium branded vehicle I've owned where I was not let down by the "actual" build quality. I am very experienced with seeing vehicles for what they are and I am blown away by the GV70. If anyone is considering this vehicle against a Audi Q5, BMW X3, MB GLC, Lexus RX, etc., do yourself a solid and test drive one. If you don't like it, then you don't like it. All I can say is that I highly recommend the GV70 over the competition and am extremely happy with my decision.

P.s. Some may call me crazy for this rant, keep those comments to yourself. I love cars and get excited about the little things that most take for granted. I figured some of you may love to hear this so I shared! Also not sure if this is the proper location for this post so let me know.
THANK YOU! This is all I can say. After searching and reviewing many sites, your review and comparison answered all of my questions in a short
summary. Enough said; decision made!

I saw and sat in the new NX at the Barrett-Jackson yesterday. It was the F Sport non-hybrid turbo in gray and I have to say it looked better than I thought but nowhere near as special and beautiful as the GV70. Price was 59k and either the 2.5 or the big 3.5 in the Genesis will smoke it. The interior still manages to look somewhat dated except for that massive info screen which dominates the whole interior in a bad way. Even though the Genesis screen is large, it does not overwhelm the interior. The Lexus is also only a touch screen which will need to be cleaned regularly. I have to say the Mark Levinson system sounded very good possible better than the Lexicon.

Yes it's a Lexus and if you're going to keep it for 10 years and put big miles on it then maybe the better choice but other wise the GV70 is just better value for what you get.

Genesis is at it again... 😊

I actually think Genesis needs to step it up. Yes Genesis hit it out of the park with the GV70, but other than the hydrogen fuel cell GT car they’ve shown, I’m actually not that excited about any of the future vehicles they’ve announced to date. Other than their flying car of course. Lol
