  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

White/red 3.5 GV70 video montage from down under:

Two mechanics from Korea discussing the chassis of the GV70:

Yep and like all other comparisons no one is going to beat that BMW B58 engine and ZF tranny. It's a bad time to be in this age group. The BMW may look more common and boring but it's the flat out best drive-train in this category..

My wife has an X3 M40i and have driven the GV70 3.5T on a test drive. I would agree with most of what he said about the engine, feel and responsiveness. The odd thing is once you drive it for a while, the M40i's sharpness gets old. I frequently go into eco mode just to take the edge off. I think it is the throttle setup that is the real problem, anything more than a toe tap makes the car leap forward. I also tire of the exhaust noise, sounds great but when cruising on the highway it never disappears, a dull drone that I am not fond of.

The interior of the GV70 feels much more luxurious, especially the seats. The BMW's are narrow and I sit on them, not in them. Hands down win for the Genesis.

Posted just yesterday on Feb 22. Great review. And it happens to be of the same model I purchased. :-)

This is the original tester of cars and I have watched their reviews long before the inter-web came along and made everyone an expert. However there are mistakes here. This model does not come with the adaptive suspension and they still insist its based on the G70 platform. Why is Genesis unable to provide accurate data to these testers??

Based on the G70 platform

^ OMG…here we go again. The GV70 is NOT based off the G70 platform/chassis.

Stop posting BS.

I had a brief chat via dm to one of the Drive editors, and he told me that the North American rep for Genesis told him directly that the GV70 is based on the G70. That was two weeks ago. So maybe we need to root out that bad apple?

In this context it sounds like he means its position within the Genesis lineup and nomenclature is based on the G70. Genesis themselves explicitly refer to it as a "new platform."

Proof is in the pudding as well. This is why the current G70 cannot get the new 3.5TT engine. Known fact that it will not get the engine until the refresh comes out with the newer chassis based off the GV70.

See how that works? Think people...think.

He's a f'ing idiot. Nuff said.

Genesis didn't even set up a coordinated press launch of the GV70 in the U.S., hence why most reviews were not released on the same day and often had to get their cars from the dealerships rather than Genesis themselves. So I'm not sure if they even bothered to give the reviewers any data to work with.

You are correct and that is why their head of marketing got the axe. Their "halo car" was launched so badly it was hard to believe. Swing and a miss and when they finally got around to putting a commercial on TV it was dreadful...

No, Mark Del Rosso left Genesis due to personal reasons, well before the launch of the GV70 in the U.S. If anything his not being there and there being no immediate replacement at the time was likely the reason why there was no official launch.

Executives "leave for personal reasons", he didn't get axed. For everyone who knows, that right there is the definition of getting fired when you're at the top in the corporate world.
As for not having someone fill that spot to do the launch is outright failure on their part.

That's false, Luc Donckwerwolke also "left for personal reasons" and came back to Genesis a year later. Someone like Marc Del Rosso would already be employed at another brand if he was fired given his sterling track record at Lexus, Bentley, and Audi.
