  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis GV70 Reviews

We like our Genesis and we bought it from a dealer that we had a relationship with already. It was not a bad experience, but not a luxury experience. No different than buying an Elantra. This is not surprising.

My Genesis dealership experience so far has been... weird? Incomplete? Unique? The first time I went, I had an appointment but the salesman seemed completely disinterested. That actually was fine in this case because I was just scouting for my wife who was having hip surgery and wanted to see how the GV70 and 80 compared to my EV6 for comfort and riding height. Second time we went there, against kind of uninterested. Nice there was no pressure, but I guess it was a "the cars sell themselves" situation? Honestly, I've only stepped on a high end Mercedes lot and that salesman was kind of a dpsht so I've never truly experienced first class. But you could really tell it shared the lot with Hyundai. The manager did take his time explaining everything and was very polite. No snake oil salesmen in him and seemed honestly straight up with what he could do despite us being relatively difficult (my wife refused to sign for a car that wasn't on the lot even after testing two virtually identical ones other than seat color), so that was nice.

The whole business model for retail car sales is broken. Decades ago, the Feds stopped the manufacturers from owning dealerships, for antitrust reasons. That's when there were the Big Three, period. Had they not made that change, there would not be any competition. Hardly true today. I know people appid lots of money to buy a dealership franchise, and breaking that system would cause a lot of hardship. But nearly everyone says that buying a car is about as pleasant as having all your teeth pulled out in one day.
I've given up on dealers completely, since most salespeople were probably selling house paint last week and golf clubs the week before that. They need sales commissions to earn more than a pittance, and can't afford to "waste" time on a customer who is just seeking information. I go to the dealer to check the paint and interior colors, to sit in the car, and taker a test drive. Then I use a buying service.

It's funny, I was going to retire this year and become a car salesman as a "keep me busy" kind of job. I like people and I know cars. Since the pandemic the system has become really broken. Instead, I ended-up getting a job with a huge well-known company in a senior technical position instead of management. That is the perfect twilight career. I just do "work" without much pressure and I am happy to mentor others.

Very informative thread.
I have be on the market for a new luxury SUV and have been leaning 90+% for the 2024 GV70 2.5T Sport Prestige. Love the look, feature set and the ride. After reading these nightmare reviews of service after the sale I am now reconsidering. The dealers in my area are not stand alone Genesis dealers. Think I may have take another look at Audi and Lexus. thanks

I think the dealer stories can be exaggerated. The vast majority of us will only see the dealer at service time which isn’t too often. I woulds’t let the reports of poor dealer service stop me from buying my otherwise preferred car.

Take a look at the reviews of the Hyundai dealerships.

What's more important is how the dealership group ownership (which usually owns a variety of brands) treats its customers rather than having a separate store.

Also keep in mind that according to CR's latest owner satisfaction survey, only Genesis, BMW, Porsche and AR were in the positive.

I have been trying to buy a GV70 from a dealer in Houston and it has not been a great experience. Decided on a price with the competitive owners rebate of $1500 and a $1000 discount off MSRP. My wife went in to sign the paperwork - she signed the offer letter and just before she went to the finance guy she was told they could not offer the price she had just signed as the $1500 discount was no longer available (says it does not show up when they put in the VIN). The Genesis website clearly shows a discount for competitive owners but has enough wiggle room in the wording to not be guaranteed. I called the Genesis Concierge and they said they only know what is on the website - it is up to the dealer. I guess they are trying some sort of sales tactic with my wife but they have refused to budge on the rebate. Does anyone know if this is correct - not applicable top the FV70 2.5T advanced that I am looking at or are they just playing with us?

Anything under MSRP is a welcome change but I am amazed that if you had everything done except the final signature that they are trying to tell you something different. That is the one thing that will get me to walk right out of a dealership. If they try to play any games, I will walk out. That is why I try to buy a new car when I want it, and not when I NEED it. Apparently they don't want your sale or are trying to pad their pockets.

Update 1.5 years later. The GV70 is a remarkable vehicle... Everything about it inside and out.... A lot of pride of ownership.... until service is needed and dealer 1 does not answer: dealer 2 no return phone call: dealer 3 can't get in for 2 weeks.
Considering trading.... giving it a lot of thought. Don't need the agg and inconvenience.

Seems like an extreme move for something you have done on a rare occassion...

So you would rather buy an inferior car than wait two weeks for a service?

I suspect a two week wait for whatever brand you choose would not be unusual.

Not in any hurry to do that unless service is substandard … can’t get parts, etc. I really like the GV. Just cannot deal with service centers that do not communicate.. a simple phone call back

Not rushing but I have to put it off until Mid Oct. I’ll go through the process then and decide. Would replace with a Macan. Currently have a 2017 Macan S. Service has been as good as it gets. Not in a hurry just got a little short after I called for service. I’ll play it out.
How’s this. We also have an NX with a cracked windshield… there are no OEM front windshields in stock. On back order with no ETA. Cannot legally drive it. Replacement has to be OEM…. What gets done in this situation? Aftermarket glass will not work for reasons of calibrating the cameras/sensors

We will be sticking with Lexus. First class vehicles, first class dealerships, first class service.

And first class boring. Lets not sweep the recent engine recall and replacement under the rug!

Anyway, don't let door hit you on way out!

At least they are replacing the engines. I'll be interested to read how well your GV70s hold up after 5+ years.
