  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

It seems like the majority of the posts in here are for non-performance related comparisons. I'm much more curious to know how the i4 turbo coupe is going to hold up against the competition: WRX, Cobalt SS, MS3, Caliber SRT-4 and the Neon SRT-4 (to name a few).

I currently own a 2005 Neon SRT-4, so I'd like to start there. I realize the Genesis is RWD off that bat, and that definitely is a good way to start. However, the base power of 223 is fairly weak for the current market. The average stock 2004-2005 NSRT-4 dynos between 220-230whp with 240-250wtq. They're very easy to make faster. Their transmission is overbuilt, their motors over-engineered. They can take 400-500whp on stock internals. If you stay off boost, they can see 30-35mpg on the highway.

Those are just a few of the perks to owning an NSRT-4. I can see that the Genesis will be much more refined, inside and out, in terms of looks and features. And while that's nice and all, I'm still just really wanting more on performance. If they play it right, I'll probably end up trading my Neon in for one.

If your needs are speed, speed, speed, then you cant beat the SRT-4 in terms of sheer performance for every dollar. I've driven my buddies SRT-4 and I get shivers everytime that boost kicks in. It's a GREAT go fast car with utility to boot. However, as a FWD car there is noticable understeer at the limits especially going around canyons and such. Yes, shocks, coilovers, anti-roll bars, bigger and stickier tires will help, but it wont be as neutral as a RWD car.

The 2.0 Turbo i4 in the Gen Coupe is similar to the SRT-4. It is .4 L smaller, the blocks are almost the same (it is based on the world engine that Hyundai initially engineered and later sold to Chrysler and Mitsu), only the internals are different. According to initial reports from Korea, the 2.0T was designed to be a tame, very efficient turbo engine with very little turbo lag. The most recent mods done on a i4 engine was dynoed at around 360WHP+ with stock internals. They added a bigger snail, I/H/E, tune, ECU changes.

I think you will have fun with the RWD car. Once you drive one of them you just cant go back to a FWD car, ever. I've had FWD cars all my life until I got used 325i beamer. It was one heck of a machine. I had so much fun with that car. I still consider it the best car I have ever driven. Goin through curbs, exit ramps and u turns were super fun. Not to mention the occasional auto x's that I've done. :)

I can't say I disagree. I also auto cross in my NSRT-4 and have several other friends who do the same. With the right set of mods, the proper tuning and a capable driver, I really think at the average auto cross event where no one is really a pro, you'll do just fine.

A friend of mine has a 400whp+ NSRT-4 with some serious suspension/stopping mods and he consistently beats out 98% of all the cars at tracks such as Infineon, Buttonwillow and Laguna Seca. The last time I was in his car during a round, the only car that was able to keep up and pass him was a WRX STi shop car with around 40k dropped into it. My friend has maybe 8k dropped into his NSRT-4.

In general, it's just really hard to beat your 'bang for buck' with the Neon...but the ultimate test will be test driving a Genesis to see what I think. I can't wait for that.

i cant wait to see a race between them both... but you got style and performance going up against an ugly fast lil neon...

Agreed on the ugly ... I'll defend my neon till death but the interior looks like it was made by a blind ... well ... i dont know how things are over here so ill bite my tongue lol

the interior on the G-ride is definitely a winner over the neon...
i nut over this pic all the time...

Yeah, not only does the Neon/Cobalt Turbo have more HP they have a lower curb weight.

Of course, with RWD you're going to have an advantage off the line. If this motor has as much in common with the EVOX 2.0 as it seems, these guy's will be making up that lack of HP real quick.

IllMac!!! nothing but truf rings from your statement...
plus the huge aftermarket they got out there already.. the states will be ahead of the curve when i comes to modding new rides...

lol I have a feeling we'll pretty much know 50%+ of the people on this site in a year or two:rofl: <--- hopes that smiley works

edit: it doesnt work

2 years? its been a year and a half for me...
plus i have a bunch of mods sitting on the floor... i'll just have to sell them and make a nice down payment along with my trade in...

I own the SRT so I'm not trading it in.

i've got about 3k left on it.. but i would be more than happy to trade it in so that i can get a good head start on the payments on this thing...

That's what I'm thinking ...

If I could pay this off and trade it in I would have cheap ass payments and a pretty god damned nice car ... win/win

but when i'm done with the neon i'm done modding besides the pimp factor...

I'm just going to be honest and say the second post in this was enough for me. :D

If people are already making 300 HP with the new turbo engine we're bound to be in for some even better surprises.

What is the engine code actually going to be though? Does anyone know if it's offically gonna be called the 4B11?
