  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hi all,

My 85 yr old mother just purchased a 3.8l 2012 Genesis (no tech package). We are both confused with the headlight switch.

Auto....
The light do come on and go off according to the avaialble light we think. The problem we have here is the high beam switch does not work. Push it forward..nothing. Pull it back and the high beams come on, but only as long as it is held back. When the car is started the lights come on. This may be due to the safety daylight running lights????

On... Every thing seems to work,

Fog lamps... We cannot even tell which lights are the fog lamps. There are two bullet shaped lights on each side, but they only come on with the running lights. Not with the fog light switch on the stalk.

Also how does on lock the trunk if it is opened when the car is not started. The key fob does nothing.

The used car dealership that she bought the car from has not clue.

Thanks

You need to find an owners manual. Maybe someone with a 2012 owner's manual can send you a PDF copy. I think if you register at the website below, you may be able to download the manual:
https://www.hyundaiusa.com/myhyundai

Daytime running lights are not headlights, and there is no Hi-Beam Lights with those. If you headlights come on automatically, you should be able to turn the high-beams on. If not, contact your dealer (but I would read the owner's manual first).

85 year old mothers are prohibited by law from using fog lights.

There are two ways to open the trunk when outside the car:
  • Under the chrome lip of the trunk, press up on the soft part and trunk will open. The key fob must be nearby when you do this.
  • The key fob has a physical key (press the button to remove it) that will open the trunk also. You will have to look for the lock.

I am not sure about the high beam switch, you may need to take it back to the car dealer you bought it from as that has to work by law.(at least in Canada)
The fog lights are down near the bottom of the front bumper below the main headlights.
The trunk can be opened by the switch in the glove-box, the switch on the driver's door above the gas door switch or there is a switch under the outside lip of the trunk on the passenger side beside license plate light. The car must be unlocked or you have to have the key fob on you for the last one.
You could look on e-bay for an owners manual if you don't have one.
I hope this helps you out.
