"Genesis" logo on trunk question

Has anyone removed the "Genesis" logo name from the trunk? Are there holes there or is the name stuck on with tape?

There are alignment holes, but it is stuck on with tape. There are many threads (some with videos) on this forum that explain how to remove it.

Not the side "H", but the "G E N E S I S" that's on the right lower side of the trunk. Looks like they're taped on to me.

Anyone take these letters off?

As Mark _888 stated there are many threads. I used WD-40 to saturate the tape, and pulled gently until it released. I rinsed the area clean with soapy water, then waxed. There are no holes, so its pretty straight-forward.

As Mark said there are no holes behind the "Genesis". I removed mine with a hairdried, dental floss and some goo-gone. Then cleaned and waxed after. Much cleaner look (IMO).


The dealer logo was much harder to remove but that is done also!

Hadn't thought of that - sounds like a plan! This time though I'll use the Kynar "thread" I have. No dealer logo on my car.

Saw three other Genesis today on way back from Knoxville, Lazy H on only one, Genesis emblem on the other two.

Yes it does I didn't even have to use a hair dryer... just the floss.

Would removing a dealer's logo which is only a decal, not a raised printed piece, come off with just goo gone (or similar) or should I use a hair dryer/heat gun?

Should I use a sponge to get it really clean?

Years ago, dealers added their "emblems" that were cast metal (especially in the eastern states) and many were actually bolted through the sheet metal like early factory badges. That stopped a long time ago, and I haven't seen any newer badges/stickers that wouldn't come off with a product like Goo Gone (which I use). Just be sure to wash and wax the area where you used it afterwards, since this and pretty much anything else that will dissolve adhesives, will strip the surface of any wax or sealants. A heat gun can work, but it won't get that "goo" off.

and the longer it is on the more difficult it is to get off but any body shop will do it in a few seconds and $5 might go a long way. I have taken every one off for the past 20 years without a problem

A dealer is going to be pissed if you make them remove their logo, and might "accidently" damage the paint just to spite you.

Yes, but some of them piss and moan about it. I just think it would be better to take it to another dealer to remove the decal, or do it yourself.

One time when buying a car that had just arrived at a dealer and had no decal, I put a handwritten note in the sales contract that there would be no dealer decal on the car when delivered to me, and made the sales manager initial it. When the car was delivered to me it had the dealer decal and I asked them to remove it. A salesman at the dealership started giving me a very hard time saying that some dealers refuse to remove their decals. I had to remind him (more than once) there was a clause in the sales contract that I signed (and the sales manager signed) that there would be no decal.

So I wouldn't say I have a negative mindset, just some negative experiences with car dealers, just like a lot of other people.

Personally, I think dealers are very shortsighted on this issue. Whenever I see I a dealer decal on a car driving around, it makes me think I would want to avoid that place, because I don't want to fight with about it if I were to buy a car there. Especially the ones that look difficult to remove. I can't believe in the age of the internet that anyone shops at a particular dealer because they saw the dealer decal on the back of car.

If I owned a dealership, I would have a policy of asking customers if they want the decal, and assuring them that it would not be put on unless they wanted it (and remind customers that other dealerships will put it one regardless of whether you want it or not). This would give me an advantage in keeping some customers from going to another dealer.

Most of us have much more important things to worry about in our lives. On this subject my opinion is that if the dealer puts a decal on, then they can take it off. If they do any damage, then they will attend to it, unlike some misc. clod in a local shop.

A substantial number of people on this forum, not only don't want the dealer decal on their car, they don't want the Hyundai logo on their car. Some don't even want the Genesis nameplate on their trunk.
