  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis R Spec or 300 SRT 8

At those price points, I would go with the SRT-8 it is definitely a nice vehicle. This is coming from a current R-Spec owner and former 4.6 owner.

OOPS,
Price point being important on these cars I must comment. All the SRT8's that eveyone is/are testing that are equal to or superior to the Genesis are optioned up. I checked several of the tests in interest of fairness, and the desire to purchase a domestically built vehicle, and found the the typical "as tested price" of all the SRT's in the magazines is almost $58,000.00. Tested mpg was also closer to 14-15 with the testers unable to stay off the loud pedal. I was very supprised at this as I expected the Chrysler to be more competitive price wise. I'm sure that the tests of the R Spec also have less than listed highway mileage, but most have been much better than 15! depends on how hard you drive it I'm sure. There is an "SRT Core" model that is supposed to be nice at a lower price point, but the magazine test cars have all had all the expensive gagets and are quite pricey. The luxury orientation of the Genesis is of course still there, but an R Spec is still a great "bang for the buck" machine considering that with every available option it doesn't exceed 49K and that is usually discounted a great deal. I don't even need the I-phone cable either.

I don't get much better gas mileage in my R spec. I do drive mostly stop and go under 40mph however...

~2200 miles, 87 octane at top tier fuel locations, 93 elsewhere (rare). 80% city driving or more normally.

I found the 300 too cramped when I was cross shopping it with the Genesis.

I made my choice and I picked up a fully loaded Chrysler 300 srt 8 2012 with 9500 miles certified for just under 39k

I have to say the srt is way quicker and has much more pull especially off the line. The seats and interior are much better than the Rspec. The only downside is I am getting about 3 MPG worse gas mileage.

I am interested to see if Hyundai will offer a true performance version in the new redesign.

This is not a slam against the current genesis but the two cars are not in the same league

Personally I don't hold these as comparable vehicles. The R-Spec is the same car as the 5.0 with different interior colors, larger rotors, a barely thicker sway bar, and different dampers. It's not a performance car and the transmission programming proves it. I hold the R-Spec as comparable to one of the special edition 300Cs with a 5.7L. Hyundai does not have a high performance offering that's meant to compete with cars like out-of-the-way-designed-for-performance AMGs, Ms, or SRTs.

The SRT is a modern day muscle car, no doubt, while the Genny is a high performance luxury car. The Genny R-spec is definitely a performance car but it is tuned for softer performance and better gas mileage than the muscle cars. Back when I was trying to decide what to buy I drove the '12 Challenger but didn't like the driving position, visibility or rear seatroom. I went with the Genny and haven't been disappointed.

i think you made the right choice, as i think you wanted something different than your current ride, something more exciting.

if i wanted a sporty muscle car, i surely wouldn't pick the genesis.
one prime example is how quietly Hyundai tuned the exhaust in the genesis V8 - you can barely hear it.

as i haven't driven the 300 SRT, can you tell me how is the ride comfort compares to the genesis 4.6?

again, congratulations on your new ride.

My srt is a late production 2012 with the 3 mode adaptive suspension. In normal mode nice smooth ride. In sport mode similar to the 2009 Genesis 4.6. Track mode you can feel every bump but this also changes the transmission shifting to more aggressive.

This was a car that had a sticker price of 58K in 2012. The sound in not loud until you get on it then sounds great. The interior with the upgraded leather and pano sunroof looks great.

This is the same car Walter White drove in Breaking Bad
