If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Hi All,

Hope all is well. Quick question. I have a white satin pearl genesis and I just noticed this yesterday. if you look close enough at your rear bumper, you can see that the color is a little off compared to the body color. Anyone have a white one that you can check this for me please?

is it just my car? or all white cars are like this?

thanks in advance.

Yeah, well I noticed that on my Acura. Don't have a Genesis yet. But both my Acuras grey and Platinum Metal are like that. Very little difference and the light has to be right.

Bumpers and other "soft" parts have to be painted with paints containing an extra "flex additive" which can, under certain lighting conditions, affect the luster of the paint. It should not be routinely visible though - at least when the vehicle is brand new. After a few years of sunshine exposure though you probably will notice the parts with flex additive faded differently than the pure metal parts. Keeping the car in a garage helps a ton.

Wander around the dealer's lot and see how other white cars look; there's no reason yours should be any different. If it is, point it out and get a respray on the bumper.

thanks for the reply guys.

i don't think its an obvious issue. but if you look close enough, you can see it. before i go by the dealers, i am wondering if anyone has a white one that can make some comments?

happens in varying conditions in different settings. i can find differences in just about every car/truck out there given the right angle and time of day. don't sweat it. my trailblazer SS was silver and the rear bumper was off, but so was every other one i checked.

One possibility is that they had some damage to the bumper and had to repaint it. Check out some other Genesis vehicles in that same color to determine if yours is different than others.

I think it will be a mistake to ask them about your car at this point. Just call any Hyundai dealer and ask if they have white Genesis Sedan in stock (in same model year as yours). Don't tell them who you are. Then go over there and look for yourself at the white other car and see if it looks like yours.

It's always like that --- if your car had a lot of "sunbathing" , and White is always the most "noticeable" color.

but it shouldn't fade that fast, it takes at least a year or 2 of "pure sun bath" before you can see the different color between the body and bumper paint.

well, i called them up and explained my situation and they asked me to take it to a body shop to figure out what's happening with the paint. If there is an issue, then they will appearantly, submit a claim to Hyundai.

I haveva new 2012 white and I see no difference in the paint tones

What are you going to do if they say there is no issue? I still think you need to look yourself at some other white Genesis' of same model year in case they claim it is normal.

That' what i would like to do first. I really think it is related to what mikec said - flex additive. i have googled this and many other folks are having this issue with cars such as acuras, etc.

but can't seem to find anyone with a genesis though. mine is 2010, white satin pearl.

Regardless of what they find out, i think if fight for it as a customer, i can get a re-paint. Let's see.

thanks again for all your feedback.

I worked in an automobile assembly plant years ago, and typically bumpers, mirrors, etc. are not painted at the assembly plant. As others have noted, the flex agents may impact the color profile, but most often, it is simply that the parts are not painted under the same conditions. With the pearl paints, like the White the original posters has in question, the film thickness (thickness of the paint) really impacts the color profile. The suppliers as well as Hyundai sample the final parts and take measurements to try to ensure that everyone stays within tolerance ranges.

With all of this said, I would not suggest having the bumper repainted unless it is really bad. The factory finish, even from a bumper supplier, is going to applied under a much better environment, and will look better longer than bumper repainted at your dealer's repair center.

Thanks all for your feedback. I totally agree with the factory finish comments. I think it applies to all components of the car. I think I am okay with the color diff for now. if it doesn't get bad or gets to me later on, i will deal with it at that point.
