  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Aside from the whole suspension debacle which has been beaten to death (luckily I don't have any issues), I thought we could use a thread pertaining to the Genesis' other shortcomings. Don't get me wrong, I love my Genesis, but there is no such thing as a perfect car. Maybe Hyundai will catch wind of this thread and address the concerns of current owners in future updates.

-Chrome exterior trim on the windows and trunk is easily scratched (a major pet peeve of mine since I'm pretty anal about car maintenance). After 8 months of ownership the chrome trim has several light swirls and a few hairline scratches that clearly be seen close up.

-"Wood" center console trim & door trim is easily scratched. Same issue as the chrome trim.

-iPod interface is good except for the fact that you can't playback songs in random order and it takes too long to scroll through artists/albums/playlists

-Seats could use more thigh support for tall folks (I'm 6' 2")

My only complaint is the ESC control.

Even when you turn it off it is NEVER TRULY OFF!

...at least, not yet! Someone will figure out how to do it.

- Seats! They just don't feel like any other luxury cars'. I feel they sit up too high and as already mentioned aren't designed for anyone over 6' 2".

- Headroom- This may be resolved by the seats issue. A car this big should have PLENTY of headroom. Every other luxury car Hyundai is trying to compete with does. I hate having to lean the seat back to fit in a car. This is one thing Mercedes has had right for years (at least the E class).

- Steering wheel buttons - Hyundai got it right when the made the controls on the console out of aluminum. They recognized people would certainly be touching it and it needed to feel quality. So why disregard all the other buttons? Personally, the stereo controls on the steering wheel is something I would touch more than anything else and they always feel cheap. My old Honda Accord has MUCH better buttons. Also, go ahead and make the buttons for the A/C aluminum as well. The plastic feeling continues the cheap theme.

- Trunk - Mercedes also got this right. Their trunks on the E class open beautifully. They are fast, predictable, and open completely at the touch of a button. I was very suprised to see the Genesis didn't have this. This one little option adds a lot of luxury to the car in my mind. Also, I haven't witnessed it first-hand but I'm told the trunk will leak water in to the cabin of the trunk when you open it. That should certainly be fixed. We can't be expected to open the trunk only when it isn't raining. Finally, what is with the cheap thin fabric in the trunk of the Genesis? Fabric isn't terribly expensive. Just have something put in that is plush. Again, the little things can go a long way to move this car from good to incredible.

Just FYI.....

No button on the center console is made out of aluminum. They're all silver painted plastic including the ones for the seat heater controls. :)

Everyone has the right to there opinion. I have had the E clase Benz and I can tell you the Genesis is much nicer. The buttons have a luxury feel to them not the clunky loud switches that come with the Benz. What kind of buttons switches are you expecting in this car? I like the soft feel of the switches and buttons of the Genesis. The carpet is as good or better in the trunk and as far the the trunk opening by itself..come on!!!!...if you want the trunk to open by itself, or have plush carpet in the TRUNK, go ahead and buy the Benz for almost
twice the price of the Genesis. (been there not doing that again). I think the Genesis is a great car and I have not had any complaints so far. Like I said I have had the Benz and it really is not worth the money.

My .02

I have only one little suggestion for Hyundai at this point. The seat belts for the driver and front passenger are too close to the B pillar. Leave a gap of about quarter inch and it will make it easier to grap and pull out the seat belt.

My .02

I understand you ".02" but does that mean I'm not entitled to mine?

I'm simply proposing improvements that I think might help and items that come to my mind. They may not be important to you.

Yes, the Mercedes E500 I owned had plush carpet in the trunk as well as a trunk that opened completely. I loved those options and don't have them anymore.

However, I'm here on this forum because I sold the E500 for completely different reasons and they are areas where the Genesis excels. Personally, I found the transmission in the Mercedes abysmal. The fact that I would let my foot off the accelerator going 40 mph only to watch the vehicle excessively slow down because of the transmission was incredibly annoying. Also, I have no idea why, but the acceleration on the Mercedes was never predictable. From 0 - 10 mph it was fine. From 10 - 40 it just wasn't responsive. I have found the Genesis to excel in the entire driving range.

I'm all for correcting errors when someone makes a false statement, but lets try to keep this positive fellas. When it comes to matters of opinion, there is no right or wrong. :)

a few changes

plastic cover for the gas cap. (not sure it will fade the same as the metal body).

allow the flood lights to come on without low beams.

better programming for the navi
by city searches please!

better programming for the auto headlights... tend to "blink" a lot at dusk , a 2005 corolla has better programming....

disable ECS.... sometimes i WANT to slide out the rear end.

fix the ipod interface so it knows what song is playing....
If you shut the car off, don't disconnect, and restart the car, the display can't tell you what song is playing.

add an idiot warning for the oil changes, maint schedule.

most of the above are little things, programming issues, no new hardware no new costs....

I totally agree on the auto headlights (forgot to mention that). Mine always have problems in low-light situations. Some times they come on during sunny days when briefly passing under freeway bridges, and then on extremely cloudy/overcast days when it's raining they never seem to turn on by themselves.

As for the plastic gas cap door, it's still a painted so I wouldn't think it would fade any differently than the bumpers.

The Ipod will play in shuffle/random mode, see my post in the electrical, lighting section. I posted it on 12/2.

More padding in the door armrest. My elbow gets sore!

Get rid of the DIS warning message every time you start the car.

USB thumbdrive playback is a bit wiggy. Sometimes it kicks out of what is being played and switches over to AUX.

My greatest complaint is the dead pedal. When my right foot is comfortable on the gas pedal, my left foot can hardly reach the dead pedal. Hyundai, ya listening? Make it bigger and closer.

Something that keeps buggin' me about this car: it's too fun to drive! It's too powerful! It's too stylish and unique! I just hate these things when they happen all the time with my 4.6...

One touch Up/Down for all four windows

Complete retained power when the car is turned off. I found out last week that unless I was doing something wrong, I could not close my sunroof once I turned the car off. I could put the window up, but could do nothing with the sunroof.

Brakes fade too fast. Enough hard braking and the pads start smoking.

I've never had a car, from any manufacturer at any price, that had such pronounced brake fade.

I hope the fix is as simple as installing brake pads of a different material. Will need to figure out who manufactures the OEM pads, and what the available replacements are.

I think the brakes are fabulous! They're easily far superior to any of my prior Hondas (1997 Civic, 1998 CR-V, 1999 3.2 TL, 2002 Civic, 2006 Pilot).

Under what conditions are you driving that you're encountering brake fade? The track?

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
It's not track, but I found that 3-4 hard stops in succession, from freeway speeds, is enough to start some smoking.

I would never take my Genesis to a track unless I upgrade the brake pads first.

The brakes are perfectly fine though, before they start fading, that is. Brake fade is a complete non-issue if I drive like a grandmother (which IMO is the proper way to drive/enjoy a Genesis, or a Lexus LS for that matter - these cars are not BMWs).

My '02 Accord has less of a brake fade problem. But then, its pads are no longer genuine Honda OEM parts (dunno where my mechanic got his pads from).

It's all well and good to have these discussions. But think about it people. For a lot of what is said in these forums, if Hyundai was to fix all the issues you ask them to fix ( by fix I mean make improvements such as more padding in the door arm rest, better carpeted trunk, a trunk that opens fully at the push of a button, one touch windows for all four windows etc.....) then the car could no longer be sold at the reasonable price it is sold at. In other words there is a reason why higher priced luxury sedans cost more and that is because they have features that the Genesis does not have. Having said that..... I bought the Genesis because the extra features those other cars have I either don't want or am not willing to pay the HEAFTY EXTRA for.

I hear this argument a lot, but I don't see anything that's been suggested thus far that would increase the price more than a reasonable $1-2k IMO.
