Hello all! I'm a guy who has a V6 Camaro on order. Sad thing is, it's completely unknown when the car is coming (Chevy has screwed V6 orders)

Sooooo...I started studying up on the Genesis Coupe...HARD.

I think I want it. I'm over my "bu, bu, but it's a HYUNDAI" reservations and I think I'm ready to get the 3.8 Grand Touring (not really a racing/performance guy).

You people that own the coupe, what're your impressions? How have people reacted to seeing it in the flesh. Your opinions will go a long way towards my decision.

Thanks!

Traded my '06 Mustang V6 for a Silverstone Genesis 2 weeks ago . No regrets whatsoever !! I can't speak for the Camaro, but this car is far superior in every aspect compared to my old Mustang. Best " bang for the buck " regarding quality , features , technology and styling. The reaction from everyone has been positive . Everyone has raved about the car .
My advice ; go for it .

I've been reading the raves!

The only thing I'm gonna miss from GM is OnStar (which is AWESOME!). But I've already decided on the Genesis.

I'm probably gonna get it tomorrow. The dealer even offered to replace the Flying H badges with the Wing badges!

...and the rear badge lights up.. Yeah, get those Genesis wing badges! And post pictures!

Welcome aboard, StarkyLuv! And thank you for signing up!

If you're going to get a V6, you should absolutely get the Genesis. It has a 10x better interior than anything Chevy has ever made just about haha.

I mean, really, the only way a Camaro should ever come is with a V8.... just my opinion though.

The V6 Camaro will be an awesome car. There's no difference between the V6 and V8 besides engine. So getting the V8 wouldn't get me anything the V6 didn't.

I really want the rear-parking sensor, proximity keep and much better interior. The biggest advantage the V6 Camaro had was gas mileage (29mpg) and OnStar.

But I've already seen vids of the Genesis Grand Touring getting 28mpg highway.

I've pretty much made up my mind. I'm getting the Genesis.

Lol sorry, but coming from a speed freak, there's a HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE difference between the V6 and the V8.. about 122 differences actually :D

Grats on the choice, you are going to love the Coupe. Besides, I have been VERY wary of Chevy lately. I have 2 people I know with newer Chevys. One has a 2 year old Cobalt that has been to the dealer for so many things the service department has given him a nickname. My Fiance's friend has had a Malibu for 6 months and already the power windows stopped working, the car makes very strange rattling noises, and she's broken down twice. Its really sad what has become of "Made in America"

the one thing that sets off the camaro's interior to the genesis is .... ambient lighting. LOL.

Just got back from my test drive.

It was a red 3.8 base car. None of the bells and whistles that would come with the GT. And no, I didn't throw my money down (no GT and no gray ones).

I REALLY enjoyed the ride. He really let me take it out. We went at least 10 miles all together. At first, the wheel was really feeling the road. I mean with the vibrations. Maybe it was that particular stretch because I didn't notice it after a couple of minutes.

The cabin was MUCH quieter than my current car and I could talk to the dealer without raising my voice. I LOVED the leather! It was so soft and comfy. All the materials were nice. I read in reviews that the center console had "cheap" plastic. It felt fine to me. Even the plastic on the dash felt nice.

I didn't know how to slide the seat forward (no power seats) but I leaned back in the cockpit a little. I noticed that the wheel is SMALL. That surprised me. At least small in comparison to my Equinox. But it moved the car on command with little effort. The car felt SOLID, which was a worry of mine. I don't know why, but I just thought the car would fell flimsy and age poorly. I want the car to look and feel just as good 5 years from now if I take care of it right.

Now the fun part. I've only ever driven two other sports cars and they were rentals. One the 40th anniversary Mustang. That car was "meh". The other was the 350Z right when it debut about 4 years ago. I remember hitting the gas in that car and it RESPONDED. It didn't have to think about giving me the thrust, it just did. The Genesis did the same for me today. Since I'm not used to it, we came off a red light and I gave the gas a good mash and jerked us both back in our seats! I was then coming onto a road and this jerk in a buick wasn't going to let me merge, so I hit the gas and the car just jetted out in front without feeling strained at all. It just felt so good.

The braking was of course very sharp since they're brand new and I love the turning radius (again, after 3 years in an SUV, it's something to get used to). The stock stereo (remember, not the Infinity that'll be in the GT) was actually pretty good. The whole interior just felt so enveloping. And I LOVED the sight-line out the front. It's so wide open and you can see everything. That's one thing all the Camaro reviews knocked, poor sight-lines. The sight-lines were great out the front and the side but the back is really high. It's almost useless to turn around and look out the back, all you see is the sky. You have to use the rearview which gives you a great view.

All in all, I loved the test drive. I'm not buying the GT from them because they were being kind of pushy and ASSUMING I was gonna buy from them. I got a guy down in Annapolis ready to sell me the 3.8 GT in the color I want for $26,500 before tax and fees! So I just gave him my deposit. I'll be picking it up when he gets it in (they have to drive it from another dealer).

So that's that. I no longer long for the Camaro (I will miss OnStar though). It's the warranty that put Hyundai over the top. It truly is an awesome warranty package that GM can't even dream of touching. And all of the options. Proximity Key, parking sensors, auto-leveling lighting, Infinity stereo (10 speakers!), auto climate control and on and on. They even offered to replace the "H" badge with Genesis badges (though not the Genesis Coupe badge).

I'm sold!

Great to hear we have another convert, congrats man! Post some pics once you get it d(^_^)b

Of course. Should be by this weekend. Looking forward to the long drive back up from Annapolis.

I do HATE that the gas cap is on the drivers side. That is so DUMB! Now I have to be ultra-careful opening the door next to the pump.

I love the electric opening though!

I think its great that the door is on the driver side. No need to walk around the entire back end(or front) just to get back into the car.

That's a rather minor inconvenience in comparison to opening your door and hitting a concrete pylon.

Wait... you pump your own gas?

Na JK, Jersey joke, but its really funny when I go out of state with a Jersey friend and they pull up to a gas station and sit there waiting for an attendant.

That would be weird. But since you asked, yesterday when I test drove it, the dealer pumped the gas while I stayed in the warm, comfy car.

If you can't control the door you open please never park next to me in a parking lot.

The Camaro advertisment came out. It directly says:

"Designed by a Korean"
"Engineered in Australia"
"Tested in Germany"
"Made in North America*"

*Assembled in Canada using North American(Canadian, Mexican) and foreign parts (China and India).

That is the best deal I have read on the web so far. Lots of people are paying MSRP.
