If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've done the airbag conversion and I have to be honest.....It is very simple. Moe gave me a few tips and presto! I was done in 20 minutes. Just disconnect your battery terminals (BOTH of them) and there are two star bolts on the side of the column holding the airbag on. I didn't have a star driver, so I used a wide flat-head screw driver, which worked great.

Once you get the bolts out, just pull the cover away from the wheel and disconnect the two metal harnesses. Then take the new air bag and connect the two harnesses from the air bag to the steering wheel and screw both bolts back on.

The last step is to just reconnect your battery and you're done.

FYI, if you don't disconnect both terminals on the battery, when you're done the airbag light will be on. I had to disconnect the battery and airbag again, then reconnect the battery terminals when I found this out. The airbag light stays off after I reconnected everything.

Do you lose your phone and address settings after disconnecting the battery?

I did mine as well. It took me longer to get the correct size Torx bit and figure out how to unlock the electrical connections than anything else. The first one took 20 minutes, but if I had to do it again it would be only 10 minutes.
The biggest "trick" to know is that you need to unlock the red and black connectors. This is done by taking a tiny standard screwdriver and sliding the latch back, then the electrical connections lift right off. Pretty simple.
This is really an easy job that anyone can tackle.

I know that stolen airbags go for some good bucks by car thieves - any place to sell the original air bag to recoup the cost of the replacement ones?

No, I don't think I even had to reset the clock. Power disconnected long enough, maybe I'd have to, but the airbag only took 20 minutes.

Every setting was the same before the airbag change and after the change. (except the awesome airbag)

Hey guys, thanks so much for all of the help with the airbag cover. I think I'll bite the bullet and do it. Back to the V8 18" wheel emblems: has anyone found a source other than KAW and KAI?

There is a member located in Korea who will do the mods for $120 and also $15 for the front a rear deck badges. OEM parts.

Not wishing to break any rules send me a PM and I'll send you his e-mail and info.

Thank you for the quick reply - I hate to have to spend the money but the Genesis airbag piece looks so professional that I'll be forced to get it.

Seriously, I had the same deal! I didn't want to spend the money on the real deal, so I bought the cheap, crappy, horrible stick-on emblem. Of course, it was not for me so I spent the money and it was totally worth it.

BTW, on another thread I mention that I sold my OEM airbag on Ebay for $150:D So, I ONLY ended up paying $95 for my beautiful new airbag:D

Yes I can get it done cheaper, I'm in the military in Korea. I found a hyundai shop here that will get you the winged V-8 caps. They cost $125 exchange. The reason exchange is that the V-8 caps from the dealer are $80 each so if some did not send back their caps they are out out $320. So they will only do it upon your caps arriving. I've done this for other Genesis Forum members. If many people want this done I'll invest in a spare set of cap to speed the process.

how much would it cost to have it shipped to the states and the replacement back?

Maybe he should start a thread in the vendor area.

He has been quick with e-mails and sending the conversions back.

Haven't received mine yet - just mailed.

I'd recommend him. He makes a couple bucks - we save a couple bucks - everybody's happy.

Can't wait for the new look my my new Genny.

Just got my wheel caps today. I thought I would post some before and after pictures showing the old 3.8 "flat caps" and the fixed 4.6. I don't know about the rest of you, but I was a little confused about the difference between the two options (a picture is worth a thousand words).
I didn't like the look of the flat ones that I bought on Ebay as they appeared to cut off the spokes. Also, the colour of the ebay ones are not exactly the same as the rest of the wheel.
Thank you to our member in Korea!

To each his own I guess. :)
I've always preferred the V6 18" wheels and thought the V8 wheels were kinda ugly.
But after seeing some pics of the wing emblem swapped V8 wheels, I decided to get those wheel caps for my V8.
I prefer the look of the round wing emblem wheel caps.

I have a set of flat, large wing, wheel center caps, and after having new tires installed at COSTCO, lost one of the caps. Anyone have any idea where I could get a single replacement rather than buying four.

Thanks,

By your description your looking for a 09/10, 18" six cylinder cap?
I can ship from Korea a new single cap, write me at giengerg@yahoo if that is what you need?

I had my OEM airbag up on eBay for two auctions, no reserve, and did not get one nibble either time (likewise with OEM steering wheel, which I have replaced)...

For those that want to have v8 wing emblems at a lower cost. I purchased the 17" small caps. I think like 36.00 for the set. Sat the caps on a 60 watt light bulb to began the heating of the glue and used a hair dryer and carefully/slowly removed the metal off of the plastic. Do this for the OE 18" V8 caps on the sedan and the small inserts. I used a small knife and separated the metal from the plastic (keep it hot with the hair dryer), if you work slowly you will be able to reuse the 3m backing. Go SLOW so as not to bend the wing metal part of the cap. After 8 all are removed its just a simple task to stick the wing metal part of the 17" caps on the V8 18" caps. They are the exact same size. Check my photos out in the pictures section of my White Satin V8. Here is linkk to type that I used. http://www.kdmstuff.com/shop/step1.php?number=2707

Re: Genesis V8 18" wheel emblems & Trunk Wing

Is the trunk & Hood emblem held on with bolts or adhesive? If adhesive, will it stay on going thru a car wash?

The trunk and hood emblems are held on with adhesive tape. Yes it will hold on through a carwash. It is very common to use this type of adhesive for emblems on vehicles.

Thanks Gambler, good to know, I sometimes use car washes if I can't hand wash.
