Genesis Wing Emblem Installation Process

Couple questions

Has anyone with a coupe done the switch? I want to mount the front badge like the sedan (on the hood) and use an after market grill. I saw the rear badge available ie.

Thoughts?

I just received an installed my Rear (Trunk) emblem today. The information posted is very helpful but I want to caution others of something. The Rear emblem is designated as such and I used the OEM version from Hyundai. The pins DO NOT have to be removed from the version I have and they pin size and placement was perfect for aligning the emblem. There must be different versions available, some of which have pins on the emblem which do not align. I am glad I took off the old emblem to learn the pins are a big help versus having cut them off first in regret. Overall, it was an easy upgrade and the video posted on the process quite helpful.

The pin alignment I think comes from mixing up the front and rear emblems:

FRONT = slightly curved for the hood surface, slightly bigger than the rear, and pins that must cut off because there are no post holes in the hood of the NA version

REAR = perfect fit for direct replacement of the Hyundai logo with no modifications needed

There have been people who cut off the rear pins. There have been people who have put the front on the rear and vice versa.

I just replaced the center logo on my 4.6 with wing caps, came out fantastic. I bought the ones for the 17 inch wheel and cut out the old and installed the new. I was at the hyundai dealer yesterday for a oil change and they looked at my wheels. Than the owner showed me the ones they have to sell. I would not purchase them as they are not good quality. The new centers were crooked and the work was sloppy. I would be interested in performing this changeover for other owners.

Thank everyone who posted input on this mod. I finished the mod on Saturday and I was contemplating doing it myself. Another member had advised to use an auto body place and based on not wanting to screw up my car I decided that was the safest route.
Taking off the rear Hyundai emblem was as easy as was posted; dental floss and hairdryer worked great and took 5 mins.
I was watching the guy from the auto body business do it. Anyway once the emblem came off the glue was everywhere the emblem was. It would have taken me hours to remove the glue and I am sure I would have damaged the paint.
The guy used a hard rubbery wheel mounted on a drill and it removed the glue without scratching the paint. It took them about 10 mins. They also used some special solvents that helped loosen the glue.
Once the glue was gone there was an image of the old emblem visible, due to the emblem being mounted at the factory when the paint was so fresh and not cured. They spent 15 mins with 1000 grit polish taking down the paint and then bringing it back. They used all the right tools and I would have never been able to do what they did. The car looks great and there is no damage and no image of the old emblem.

The mods I made were to the rear emblem, the tiers and steering wheel. I will upload some pictures.
On the rear emblem, I had ordered the wings that came in a set one for the front and one for the rear. I was not going to anything to the front but ordered the set anyway. I thought they would have been identical wings and if one was damaged or something I would have an extra. When they came one emblem was quite bigger than the other.

I took them out of packages without noting which was which. My comment is to the people who posted about the installation. The emblem I used for the rear trunk fit perfect and the holes were offset like the holes in the vehicle.
The factory emblem had to similar round holes, and the wing emblem had a perfect match with the offset holes. I guess the end result was that nothing was needed to do to the emblem other than to clean the area, remove the tape and insert into the holes.

If I had of used or only bought one emblem, I would have had to use the dremel of something to remove the posts on the emblem and mount it flush. I will upload pictures of the emblem I didn’t use for others reference.
I would encourage others to use the auto body route. I asked guy how much he wanted once the install was done, he said donate to the beer fund and I gave him $40 it was worth the 30 mins.

While I don't think the emblem change at all requires a professional to do it (after all, I did mine with no fuss, and I'm not at all a car guy), if you're not handy or if you want the peace of mind to blame someone else if it's messed up ;), most any body or paint shop will do it for cheap.

Thank you All!!!

I just installed my rear wing and licence plate emblems in about 30 minutes. I used a hair dryer, old credit card, goo gone, and zymol afterwards. My girlfriend commented, I see you have a new car, ya baby!!!!;)

Thanks to everyone for their help!! The last one I had done was by a dealer.

Dental floss broke in about 20 seconds, just used a thin flimsy credt card and pried it off. Also, I cut the large tab thinking it was too big. Saber saw, 10 seconds? It's plastic. Man they sure use a ton of double stick, never had that much on other cars. Use 3M adhensive remover and it comes off in a snap

Has anyone removd the painted door molding on the V6 and replaced it with the chrome molding? How do I safety remove the painted molding.

Installed the back emblem - no troubles thx to this forum!

I've dremeled the posts off the front emblem, but now I'm not sure at what height to install.

The korean genesis shown here:
Hyundai%20Genesis%20Revealed%20in%20Korea%201.jpg

has a different grille so it's not quite apples-to-apples, but the wings are fairly low. Samifumi's pic on page 7 that is supposedly too low actually looks about right to me, as does dataguy's pic. Matching the curvature of the wings to the hood tends toward low placement as well. Still, it would be nice to have a definitive measurement.

I installed my front wing emblem 1" above the hood/grill plastic. It just looked correct to me.

I just received my wheel caps and wing emblems from the dealer who sold me the car in Nashville TN. His instructions were "1 1/2 inches above the top/center of the grille"

I've read all nine pages of this thread and have decided to have a local body/trim shop do mine. The guy is a perfectionist and, of course, very experienced. He said it would be about $42 [one hour of their standard shop time]. I couldn't help putting the wing emblem on the horn flying H myself.

I have enjoyed reading everyone's experience with this modification. By the way, the dealer [Hallmark Hyundai, Hendersonville, TN] included my badges and wheel covers in the deal for the Genesis [3.8, 2009 Black/black, Premium Plus Pkg].

I just got done installing the front emblem. I matched the curvature of the emblem with the hood and it does come out much lower than I see most people installs...very similar to the Korean location, which makes sense, because I'm sure the hood is the same.

I used blue painters tape to box out the area to install it. First I taped the center line. Then I measured equal distance from it and put tape on the left and right...just wider than the emblem. I put the emblem on the hood and slid it up and down till it best matched the hood's curvature. I then measured up from the hood edge on the left and right tape strip and placed a piece of tape perpendicular to the hood line. With this taped box I could see exactly how to place it...no chance of getting it crooked.

I heated the hood with a hair dryer till it was warm to the hand (it is only about 40F in our garage.) I peeled off the backing and placed the wing tips at the corners of the box...with the base tilted away from the hood. I slowly swiveled it downward into place and held it there for about 30 seconds. Then I applied a bit more hairdryer heat...for another couple minutes. It is stuck tight.

The hood emblem ended up approximately 15/16th's of and inch or 23.5mm up (from bottom tip to the edge of the chrome grill.)

Removing the rubber backing and glue from the rear flying H emblem was a bear. The emblem came right off with a little heat and 15lb monofiliment line (fishing string.) The backing left behind took an hour to remove...scrapping bits off with my nail and rubbing with an adhesive remover. I then had to polish it with Meguiars, to remove the tiny fingernail scratches (before installing the winged emblem.)

After spending an hour removing the H and polishing the trunk, I'd say $42 is a bargain!

As far as looks was concerned, I'm not sure I like how the emblem breaks up the clean lines of the front of the car, however, when my wife saw it, she wanted it. I also wonder if the car looks more "generic" without branding in the front. BMW, Mercedes, Aston Martin, Bently and Porsche all have front hood mounted badges. Infiniti and Lexus have grill logos. Jaguar moved their emblems over the last few years, to the grill. But they all have some indication, on the front, of what they are. "Rangerich" suggested the front badge looked too big. I wonder if the front would look better with the trunk badge...it would also fit higher on the hood better than the hood badge...where it is flatter. The rear badge is not only smaller, but has a lower profile...less of an ornament and more of a badge. I'll wait and see if the hood badge "grows on me." If not, I may try putting the trunk badge up there...though I don't relish another adhesive removal job.

Speaking of logos, you can see the Aston Martin and Bently influence on the Genesis logo.

Note the low profile of the Aston badge.

The install and placement look really sharp, Disaster. Car looks great surrounded by fresh, white snow. Is your interior black? Also, I'm interested in the custom wheels. At least I assume those are your aftermarket addition and not OEM.

A friend just picked up his 2010 Genesis sedan yesterday, and he claims the rear trunk wing emblem is now standard, at least that is what the dealer told him. Yet I am sure I have seen pics of 2010 models with the Hyundai "H" on the trunk. Is his dealer pulling his leg and they did the switch, or is my friend pulling MY leg?
