  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Wing Emblem Installation Process

I've seen 2010's on the lot with the Hyundai logo, so unless they're pulling the trigger on a Genesis brand, I doubt that it's true. Kind of defeats the purpose to not launch the car under a new brand then stealth into one.

I just completed my conversion of badging this weekend. Fun to watch people looking back and having that perplexed look or some just pointing.

I did install myself without any difficulty, the dealer had agreed to install, but I trusted my own talents after reading about the process here.

You might find it interesting that the dealer had V6 Premium Plus model converted badges and was selling it as "Bently Package" for $995. When I pointed out pricing on eBay they claimed to be surprised.

A friend just picked up his 2010 Genesis sedan yesterday, and he claims the rear trunk wing emblem is now standard, at least that is what the dealer told him. Yet I am sure I have seen pics of 2010 models with the Hyundai "H" on the trunk. Is his dealer pulling his leg and they did the switch, or is my friend pulling MY leg?

According to my Mobis rep, BMW has an injunction on the wings due to the Mini (I know). They can not be sold by Hyundai in the US. This is why we need to get them from Korean distributors.

We offer our "Genesis Appearance package" for $225 installed for the
18" wheels, $150 for 17". This includes all four wheels trunk badge and optional hood emblem(at no extra charge).

I believe calling it a "Bently Package" takes away from what Hyundai is trying to accomplish with he Genesis (and Equus) and causing brand confusion. Plus at $1000, you should get a Bently with it.

That seem unlikely, as there are other cars with winged logos already, like Bently and Aston Martin. BMW doesn't have an exclusive copywrite on using wings in a logo. Also, the Genesis curved wing logo looks considerably different than the Mini boxy wing logo.

Chrysler released a winged logo a few years ago too.

and Chrysler's newer one...more Astonish.

When you look at it, you can even see a resemblance between the Chevy bowtie and the Mini logo.

Don't forget the Mazda zoom zoom winged emblem.

and for the old timers...how about the this Cord logo.

Whoa, good work there, Disaster. The wings are everywhere!!!!

I've had as many people think that my rebadged Genesis is a full-sized Mini as they think it is a baby Bentley. From a distance, I think the wing emblem resembles Mini's due to the color and relatively boxy outline.

Maybe, because of the silver wings and dark center, but I'd say it is more likely because there are a lot more Mini logos on the street, than Bently or Aston Martins. I used to work in Aston Martin engine development and the their logo was the first thing I thought of when I saw the Genesis logo.

P.S. I still recall when Aston's engine start button was copied...by Nissan, if I recall. Now everyone has them.

True enough. I don't see how anyone who is familiar with the various badges could mistake the Genesis wings for anything else, but for those who don't, I can see how they might be confused.

Agreed. Here is another one I found from the archives.

Wondering if anyone understands how the steering wheel airbag is deployed on impact. Maybe my concern is misplaced but it seems like adding an aftermarket badge on top of the flying H might be an injury risk if there's a chance it could come loose or create a sharp edge in a collision.

The aftermarket badge that most people are putting on the steering wheel is rounded and softer than the airbag cover and Hyundai logo that it's covering. And it's firmly attached with 3M auto tape.

Has anyone tried to install the trunk wing by going into the trunk and pushing the H outward ,instead of doing it from the front of the trunk?

I think that you would end up just breaking the OEM emblem doing this and creating more work for yourself, but I could be wrong. The adhesive is just too strong.

Well I did it.I took and doubled 8pound test line, gently got behind the right side of the emblem and started to free it up ,did the same on the left side , then did the top of the H and hand pulled it off ,
Piece of cake ,Removed glue by constant rubbing with towel and liquid wax.
finished in forty minutes, no fuss no muss no scratches ,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,

The front emblem needs to be filed down? Why didn't they just make it flat? Why have the prongs? Didn't realize I was going to have to do so much work. :D

Worked great! About the only thing I did differently is that I used some metal nippers to remove the posts on the front emblem. I thought it was a little easier to control the cuts and avoid damaging the emblem. Thanks to all for the idea/ directions!
