  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Genesis Wing Logo Steering emblem is finally out.. Check it out!

Hmm..looks pretty good.

I just wonder if the 100 degree weather and sun will make it peel back and eventually fall off onto the leather seats. Then you have a gooey gluey mess on the steering wheel and your leather.

I would be LIVID and HOT as a FIRECRACKER if this happened to me!

If I think about all the things that I have EVER tried to keep together using single or double-sided adhesive tape, more than 50% failed, usually within a short amount of time.
I do appreciate the rare product where the tape is industrial strenght such as our EZPASS stickies on the windshield...but most of the time heat and moisture win-out over adhesive qualities of the tape. Is the tape used on the emblem the 'right' kind?

Not only did I put the Genesis Wings Logo on my steering wheal, I just ordered the door post chrome 6 piece set. The adhesive used on auto parts these days is a far cry from the old stuff. If the manufacturers use it, it's good enough for me. You guys can come up with all kinds of reasons and rationalizations you want. I'm going to enjoy "My" version of the Genesis.

I, for one, appreciate the members who take the time to critique and analyze all new comments/additions/accessories. I am happy that a member is thrilled with his steering wheel logo, but I really commend those who are thoughtful and help me line up the "pros" & "cons" of new possible items.

Remember, it's YOUR choice to be personally offended or not, especially if you put out a reply that is subject to the members' review and input and you naively expect no feedback at all.

bpajax: Did you remove the "H" from the steering wheel in order to place the wing emblem?

When your airbag deploys, it's not on hinges, but splits in a T fashion across the middle & down the center. The emblems on steering wheels are not going to injur you, if so we would of heard of many law suits many years ago. Hell, I've gotta little BMW decal stuck to the center of my steering wheel & I'm not afraid it's going to hurt me in an accident. The decal is only like $16, so buy it if you want, take the 1 min to apply it, ride with it for a week, & if you feel you don't like it, yank it off & start saving for the airbag.

Me personally, the Hyundai emblem doesn't bother me & would display it proudly. Matter of fact I intend on putting a huge one on my back glass of my Genesis Coupe & a Hyundai Racing one across the front. But, if I was intending on changing over, I would definately get the airbag. Because, I'm a perfectionist & I'll spend what ever money it takes to get my car right. In fact I've already predetermined a budget of 20 grand for mods on my Genesis Coupe once I get it.

No sir. You definitely do NOT want to remove the "H". There is no need, it would make a big mess, and then you'd be stuck with the stick-on wings in the event that you decide you don't like them.

The stick-on wings simply go over the existing "H". You can see from my pics how it looks after it's in place.

Due to bpajax's great pictures and description, I ordered the steering wheel emblem. Even though it is relatively inexpensive I did not want to do anything that would "mess up" my new Genesis, and I did not have the "courage" to try it until I saw his pictures. I was afraid that it would stick out or just not look right.
I just put it on and I think it looks great.
Thanks bpajax!

Time to put my oar in the water . . . I just got the Genesis wings in the mail today. Took all of one minute to "install" on the steering wheel.

This "dished" badge weighs less than the 3M tape to install it, so I'd say the risk of being horribly disfigured by this little logo from an airbag deployment is virtually nil.

As far as apperance, I really think it does to the inside what the rear badge does to the outside. Subtile, distinctive, and attractive. I didn't really have any objection to the Hyundai logo, except as a logo, it's basically pretty ugly!

I like it!

Can you post a pic? And where did you buy it?

Thanks!

you would probably have a better chance of having your thumbs ripped off (by holding on to the steering wheel while the airbag deploys) than having a genesis emblem stuck in your head. they tested the thumbs being blown off during an airbag deployment on mythbusters, and i think it was confirmed. so, dont worry about the emblem, and dont keep your hands wrapped around the steering wheel when you are prone to being in an accident.

I did a search and found this:

Drivers who hold the steering wheel in the “10 and 2″ position can have their thumbs ripped off by a deploying airbag.

BUSTED

The Build Team obtained an old car with a working airbag and created a pair of ballistics gel hands that would simulate a driver holding the steering wheel at the 10-2 position. When the airbag deployed, it knocked the arms off of the steering wheel, but did not cause any visible damage to the thumbs. Then, following a fan suggestion, the Build Team then tested the myth under the assumption that the driver was holding the wheel with his hands in a fashion similar to the Vulcan Salute. The deploying airbag caused serious damage to the thumbs, which would have meant broken thumbs if an actual person were holding the steering wheel. However, because the myth was based around the commonly used 10-2 position, the myth was busted.

mine came in the mail today. It looks much better in person. The logo itself should slide up about 2mm so it looks more centered though. Other than that, it looks and feels great. My 4.6 Tech Black/Black should be here any day now.

thanks for that thumb update, I guess you shouldn't hold the steering wheel in a Vulcan Salute, (which I would hope no one does). Well, I stand corrected, thanks for that update. Good information is better than good sounding information. But i still doubt that the genesis emblem will cause damage.

I installed the steering wheel emblem last week and I am happy with it. Since I am on a 27 month lease it would be foolish to spend $300 (roughly $10/month) to replace the airbag to get the "official" badge.

How long did it take to get? I ordered mine on Jan 9th and still haven't recieved it.

I installed the steering wheel emblem. What a breeze. It is concave and is designed to be installed wothout removing the existing Hyundai inset. You just apply the one piece of adhesive film to the exisiting logo, then apply the Hyundai wings right over it. It centers with minimal effort and looks perfect.
