  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Get the map updated - cheaper / easier now

Is there anything new on version 14 vs 13.5? For $25 it might be worth it for something I could use.
Upgraded to 13.5 last year about this time.
It's a slam dunk for $25 bucks...!

Didn't need to do it in my '15. Guess it was because the H/U in mine had been replaced.

I have the original head unit in my 2015 Ultimate (jog dial/9.2" screen), and I haven't had to use the USB on the last two updates (12.5 and 14.0). My update button wasn't gray for either update. I do remember using the USB for a previous update (around 10.0 or 10.5). I suspect that a previous update added the ability to install subsequent updates from the SD card.

My software version is DH.USA.SOP.10.025. The update manual gives the new nav version, but not the new software version. It looks like I have all of the features, so I assume this is the new version. If someone has a newer version, I'll try to update from the USB.

So far, I like the new look. I wouldn't pay $150 just for that, but for $25 I think it was worth it. I haven't driven too far on it (just to the supermarket and back this afternoon), but they also seem to have fixed one of my biggest complaints. On previous versions, the streets would disappear too aggressively when zooming out. Now, I can zoom out without the streets disappearing. The next time I drive in the country, I'll see if the highways (state/county highways, not interstates) are visible on more than the 700 ft zoom setting.

Edited to add information.

Noticed for rev 14 update the revision history says routing is now server based from the cloud. So would seem once connected services subscription expires we have no more map services if the head unit will only calculate routes via the cloud. That seems odd for it more or less forces you into yearly paid subscriptions to keep maps working. Out of date maps is one thing, no more map route calculations if not talking to the cloud is BS.

I wonder if the CDN version is the same as the US version for the Ultimate. Anyone want to image or zip up their SD card for me to try? CDN versions are still not available for purchase yet and the downloader isn't online either.

I had not noticed that. It should be clarified as it would drop the value of the car with no navigation. Would also have potential problems in some locations where connectivity is spotty.

Also guys be advised I have an open ticket with map n soft they discovered a error in some Sd card where maps will not display roads below .25 view they are working mine and said the fix has been sent to them from Hyundai and will get users affected replacement asap it’s noted it causes traffic to not be displayed on the map over lay also

I'd be very surprised if one had to have a connected services subscription in order for the navi to calculate a route.

Interesting. Thanks for the heads up.

Does the update enable Andriod Auto for the Ultimate (jog dial) model. I have installed my update but can't get the Andriod Auto feature to work.

I could be wrong, but I thought it has been made clear that that's not ever going to happen.

Is that why they lowered the price 150$?

It might be related. More and more, it looks like all Hyundai/Kia/Genesis map update are free (free download or small fee for physical media). In exchange, they will now get (on many, but not all cars) a lot more information on where you are and where you want to go. They have partnered with HERE.com, and they seem to value this sort of information.

I do think that GPS routing will still work locally if connected services aren't reachable for one reason or another.

Yes where you are and where you go but It seems not who you are.
from their webpage:
Most services we provide are oriented to provide services in location context without identifying the end-user. Where personal data may be involved, we strive to apply pseudonymization techniques to reduce the direct identifiability of data related to individuals

Was all of what you just said possible with 13.5 map version?

...

AFAIK, I am the only one who starts and ends most of my travels at the addresses of my house and my work place. It probably won't be very difficult to make that anonymous data be non-anonymous.
That said, I'm not really concerned about it. Apple and my cellular carrier already know all that and much more anyway. We've been slowly giving up privacy for many years now.

Pseudonymization.

Sweet! Learned me a great new word for scrabble. Gonna score me some bigly points. Thanks Mcc and MnSoft.

How is data going to be sent? Through XM? My car never had cellular or wifi

XM is one way (into your car, not out). It will be cellular, for those that have it. Those that don't, will be internal routing only, I assume.

It does have WiFi capability... I enabled to my home network, thinking that it would allow me to D/L the available Hyundai apps - turns out there's only one available. Looked to be some sort of Geofencing thing. It appears to be pretty useless.

It does have a 3G modem onboard, I assume that's how it receives Remote Start commands & etc.
