If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hey everyone,

This is just a little update that I have ordered the Magnaflow cat-back exhaust for my 3.8 Genny sedan. Although the system is targeted at 4.6 V8 models, it's my belief and the belief of my exhaust guy that this should pretty much bolt up the same and if not, he can certainly make any necessary mods required.

I don't think anyone else has yet to install this system on their 3.8 yet so that's why I wanted to let everyone with a 3.8 know that I will provide more information once I've gone through the process. I was able to get the exhaust for $660 with free shipping and it will be here this Saturday. I hope to provide any info on potential problems and what not should their be any. Hopefully I can also upload some video at some point as well.

On a side note, I noticed that there have been at least a couple of people who have purchased the sytem for their 4.6's and have decided to remove them because they felt they were too loud and others who have simply refrained from purchasing it for the same reason. After talking to my exhaust guy, he told me that Magnaflow makes a muffler with a built-in X-pipe in it. The Magnaflow cat-back includes a true X-pipe as part of the configuration to improve the exhaust flow and performance of the system. He told me that if the exhaust is too loud for my taste, he could replace the X-pipe with this X-pipe muffler which will reduce the overall loudness and droning while still providing the performance that an X-pipe provides. He's installed the muffler on other cars and says it works great. So if this has been an issue for anyone or has kept someone from making the purchase, you may want to look into this.

good luck on the install. can't wait for sound clips...

Super pumped to hear the exhaust on the V6. I've put together a MagnaFlow setup, much prior to the Catback even existing.

I'm sure if I can figure it out, anyone can:cool:

jastylr cant wait to hear it. I'm one of those people who is worried about the sound. I want something comparable to the stock M3 sound or even the Lexus ISf sound. Where you can hear it has a performance muffler only at the higher RPMs and no drone but a subtle rumble.

I mean lets face facts we have a V6 and IMO its more of a luxury sedan then a sports sedan. So some balls would be cool but I don't need to sound like a Mustang.

With a V6 it's not going to sound anything like a mustang with a V8. Hoping it sounds good. Down low in the RPM band its gonna probably be deep, but once you get higher it's probably going to sound like a Honda. That's with every n/a V6 I've ever heard.

Low RPM rumble, but will sound mean at higher rpm. The 3.8 isn't an old Honda/Nissan 3.0L:D

Okay, received and had the Magnaflow installed on my 3.8 sedan. There was a little bit of modification needed on the the two mandrel-bent pipes, particularly on the driver side where it connects to the muffler pipe. It was nothing difficult for my exhaust guy to do and I had all the seams welded instead of clamped.

The sound is great coming out of the tips but there is some pretty loud drone in the passenger compartment at certain speed/RPM ranges. It has already started quieting a bit since it was installed and it will only get better as there is more buildup in the mufflers. I'm going to continue to drive it as is for a while and if I decide that the drone is too much for me, then I will have an X-Pipe muffler installed in place of the X-Pipe that came with the exhaust.

I've started to drive the car in the manual shift mode since my biggest complaint right now is that the car wants to immediately shift into higher gears even at low speeds which just adds to the drone issue. Hopefully I can re-train the computer to adjust the shift points after driving it this way for a while if that actually works.

I hope to have some pics and also post a video as soon as I can so stay tuned.

Is this a feature of the car or wishful thinking?

I myself was wondering the same thing. I have read elsewhere that the on-board computer adapts to your driving style over time and I even read of people having theirs reset. My exhaust guy told me the same thing. So who knows if this actually happens or not but for now I'm willing to try.

The system does adapt to your driving habits over time, within the 1st 100 miles of your driving it. If your hard on the gas off the light then it will high rev in each gear (4800+ RPM) before bucking into the next....and if your one to get on the brakes each time your stopping then it will use the engine to help with braking.

On the other hand if your easy going off the light then it will do it's shifts a lot earlier in the RPM band and if your one to kinda coast into your stop then the engine wont play around as much with downshifting to help you stop.

It's definitely resettable as I had mine cleared by the service department. It had been test driven for over 150 miles before my taking ownership of the car and was quite screwy in shifting until I got them to reset it. They didn't charge me anything to do it since the car was still new, but I'm sure if you ask them while in for another service they will reset it at no charge, it only took him like 10 minutes to have it done and back out to me.....best wishes to many happy miles with your Genesis :)
