  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Got a 3.5 Sport Prestige in the garage..!

One thing I find confusing is the rear wheel drive "bias" on this machine. When I have the drive wheel gauge up on the center screen it shows power being equally distributed front and rear. Even under hard acceleration. In my custom setting I chose sport setting for the AWD and the computer does not reflect that. It looks like both front and rear are the same. I thought the front would only kick in if the rear was slipping. Guess not.
Can't be sure if this is your issue, but how do you have the "Drive Mode Change Alert" set? Probably want set to "Detailed".

But what does your butt dyno say? Mine says it’s very clearly sending torque rearwards when things begin slipping (TC off). Unfortunately I doubt I could be looking at the gauge cluster at the same time that’s happening to verify…

I wasn't referring only to heavy acceleration or launch control. Just driving or taking off from a stop the gauge indicates all four engaged at the same level. I'm sure that gauge is not that accurate but I figured front wheels would only be engaged when needed.

I’ll take a look (haven’t played with that feature) but if you think about it where the torque is going only matters when you start to get wheel slip (any minor slip right down to tread-block squirm). Before that it makes zero difference if all the wheels are completely locked together or you’re only driving one corner- without slip they move exactly the same way. Thus I’m wondering if you’ll only start to see differences on the gauge once you’re using power/ cornering for some slip to occur. Maybe check it on power coming out of a corner?

I've only checked mine once while I was driving on the highway, and it showed power only to the rear wheels. The alert (later post) I believe is just the notification you get when you change the mode.

BTW, do you know if it always resets to Comfort or is there way to pin the drive mode?

If you turn the car off it always goes to Comfort. I wish it were not that way as I always have to remember to go to "custom" mode which is three clicks down.

That's true with every car that has an adjustment. Same with Auto Stop. It helps them meet their mileage numbers—you have to choose to go higher performance (less mpg)

Here are some 1000 mile thoughts on my GV70.

Comfort is perfect for me at 5'8". The suede seats are great. The vented/cooled seats work very well and are a must here in Arizona. That's one of the reasons why I did not go with the M340i. None of them on the lots have it so it would have to be ordered and their vented seats are totally different and rumored to be too firm. Same with the GLC. Not sure on the Audi but I was not considering that vehicle.

Digital dash is incredible. The problem is my steering wheel position blocks the eye camera and I think that disables the 3D effect. Not sure. I personally think the "Eco" dash looks the best but I like when it changes from mode to mode so I will keep it that way. The blind spot camera's are cool but doubt I will down that much as the HUD tells me everything. Too bad it does not work with polarized glasses.

Driver aids are incredible. LKA works so well. Even in turns. I just tried the automatic lane change and that works. Not sure why one would need or want to use it though.I love the setting that beeps when the car in front of you moves ahead. The auto stop/start works well when I forget to defeat it. In fact I was at a red light and I think the camera recognized that the light had changed as it started up on it's own. If so that's incredible.

Performance is solid but I have a few issues. Sport and Sport+ hold gears too long once up to speed. Sport+ will hold gears to red-line unless I grab a paddle and shift it down a gear. it does transform the vehicle in a great way but I don't want to run the RPM's that high for long. I'd like it to settle down past 4th gear. Sport mode is the sweet spot but the transmission will never go into 8th gear so once on the freeway an adjustment must be made. I wouldn't care had gas not spiked a buck a gallon due to our new administration. Hard cornering is acceptable. It's not a sedan and the M340i has it beat there. Power on is solid and smooth and plenty quick but again BMW's in-line 6 is better. I'm ok with that. The ride even with the 21" wheels is very smooth and composed. I've only driven the Beemer for a short time but I think the Genesis has it beat there. Same with road noise. It just feels more plush.

I have yet to take a long road trip so I can't really report on gas mileage. I'm only averaging around 18 mpg but most of that is in town with stop lights and my foot is getting heavier as I have enough miles to get on it a bit. Still I don't think MPG is going to be a strong suit with this SUV.

I get lots of looks in this rig and yesterday a guy in a new 911 gave me a big thumbs up. Probably the first one he saw. It is a stunning vehicle for an SUV. To me it looks more like a coupe than the BMW or the Benz equivalent. I think the interior is stunning and tough to beat. The only item this should have but does not is the swiveling headlights.

All and all I am very pleased with this GV70. I'd do it again knowing what I know now that is for sure.

There, fixed that for you. See, it isn’t so hard!

In all seriousness, PLEASE REFRAIN from these kind of baited remarks that just invite conflict outside of the subject matter we are discussing. This is not the first time you have been requested to do so. There are plenty of places on the internet where you can have political disagreements, if that’s what you want, or to join a chorus of voices all of whom are in political agreement, which is more typical of the internet these days. There is even an off-topic forum here. Don’t assume that everyone agrees with your views and try to have better manners.

I just can’t understand why you would undermine an otherwise excellent update and review of a car with this kind of aside. Thanks for reading and thanks for trying harder to be more considerate in the future.

Oh god. Im sure if the comment was reversed you would have no issue. Typical lefty censorship.
Here you go, get to censoring all of these anti trump posts. Ill be waiting.

Sounds like overkill reflex to me.

1. You don’t know my politics because I have manners enough to keep them out of these conversations. (But you are wrong. I am a moderate.)
2. I am not a content moderator here. I can’t therefore censor. All I did was ask for better manners.

Having good manners is a form of self-editing that people do when they don’t want to cause unnecessary damage to conversations. More people should try it.

Ha, nice try. Again, explain why you didnt ask for "better manners" in all those anti trump posts? You cant. Busted. End of story. If you were in fact a moderate, the truthful comment about our fuel prices would not cause the micro aggression that you are suffering.

Because I am only interested in the GV70, and I have only been here a few weeks.…? But you know best, I’m sure.

A fact that is easily confirmed by clicking my content. But, since your manners are getting worse, I will not be replying to your inevitable “last word.”

I dont care about your content. Now that I have exposed you to the anti trump messages, surely you will comment on those as your standard should remain the same.

Gas prices have spiked all around the world; has little to do with the new admin.

Correcting erroneous statements or asking to refrain from such statements is not censorship.

Censorship is what Republican politicians in Texas have done by forcing a museum of Texan history to disinvite the author of a book which doesn't whitewash/mythologize the Alamo.

And then there's the whole canceling thing (which is different from bearing responsibility for one's actions or words) as what has happened to Liz Cheney and is happening to all the Republicans, including state officials, who had the gall of speaking the truth/doing their job.
