GV60 Canadian Deposit - Local Dealer Information & Timelines

That's exactly what i have as well. but i don't do 40000km. but I have a work place with free level 2 charging, I don't even need to charge it in home.
I totally can get rid of my entire gas cost. I just have to be early and charge up, once a week.

I am skeptical of the article.
1) Technology manufacturing cost improvements are generally quite linear. They may have s temp slope, but we generally don’t see stepwise change, so I doubt something magical will happen next year.
2) The article says that the price war is expected to happen in the low end of the segment, not where we’re buying.

I do wonder about pricing risks related to demand declines from the economic tightening now going on across NA.
But with supply chain back to normal in the following years, materials price goes down and manufacture produces more vehicles than now. Let’s say just go back to the situation before pandemic, I remembered there used to be a 20% off for a brand new X5. Even Toyota Honda has 5~10% discount. I really doubt if it’s a good time to buy a car not just EV.

I agree that there is certainly risk buying in a tight market. I think it’s quite likely that increased supply and/or lower demand will soften selling prices. Where I disagree with the article is the belief that production costs will be substantially lower next year. That rarely happens so quickly.

At risk of being accused of being a Genesis apologist (again), do any other North American vehicles have AR like that?
Could it be that our outdated regulations or the litigious US prevents them from offering it here?

A bit late but thought this would be interesting to reply to:

I’m in the US. Here Mercedes offers AR nav (or “Augmented video for navigation” as they call it) up and down the model range, even on the GLA and GLB. I have a 2020 GLB with it.

Two interesting anecdotes which might help decipher why GV60 is missing it:

1. Chip Shortage: From conversations I’ve had with Mercedes, if you try to order a car with AR nav now, you might not get it due to the chip shortage. That said, this makes a bit more sense for them since Mercedes uses a dedicated camera for that (behind the rearview mirror) which otherwise wouldn’t be on the car and is different from the front surround-view parking camera. Afaik, the GV60 will have the camera needed regardless; so, not really a good reason for the GV60 to omit unless it turns out it's missing a camera.

2. Regulation: Despite the chip shortage issues, I just went to MB USA and was able to spec a GLB with AR nav, though it did give me a chip shortage warning when I started the configurator. Tried the same thing on Mercedes Canada, got the chip shortage warning, but found that only the regular nav was available. So maybe there is a regulation issue preventing AR nav in Canada?

It’s worth noting, however, that it appears MB implements AR nav differently than Genesis. It seems that Genesis allows you to have the camera on for the whole drive (regulatory issue?). Mercedes on the other hand only brings up the camera feed when you’re stopped at lights or if you’re approaching a turn. Maybe this implementation allows them to skirt under some regulation in the US but not Canada? I’d be skeptical however, since it will happily bring up the feed even if you’re approaching an exit at highway speeds. If there is a regulation, I’d have a hard time imagining it would allow that.

Anyway, tl;dr: idk. Hopefully someone really into AR nav found this helpful.

Actually, a quick last-minute add: I just lurked around some MB forums and found people from both the US and Canada who’ve reported not getting AR nav due to the chip shortage. On their build sheets, there was a note saying “Retrofit” or “Omission”. This tells us two important things:
1. People were able to order Mercedes with AR nav in Canada. So, it’s likely there isn’t a blocking regulation there.
2. There’s a precedent for automakers (or at least Mercedes) to do retrofits for components missing due to the chip shortage... 🤔Sounds like AR nav and HDA2 to me 🤔... That said, not getting my hopes up with Genesis.

That will be heavily dependent on why the feature was missing in the first place. HDA2 is absent due to a chip shortage, I suspect we’ll see it back when supplies are no longer tight. IFLS and digital side mirrors are absent due to regulation, we‘ll likely see them once they can sell them across NA.
It will. But originally we were all told the cars would be 2023 with a spring release, now there is a batch of 2022 arriving in June and July. Currently as has been pointed out HDA2 is on the Kia and Hyundai but not the GV60. Those are also not available for pre order so I’m theory they could stop including it for the lower tier models and add it to the genesis when production resumes as nobody can understand why you would sell it only on your “value” brand.

Yeah, I have no doubts that when materials and components become more readily available to manufacturer's, that they won't hesitate to pump out as many EV's as they can. There's going to be a huge market for cheaper EV's which specifically target those who will only spend 25k on a new car.

It wouldn't make much sense to make a bunch of cheap cars right now considering the hurdles that companies are struggling with in terms of volume/demand.

That said, I wouldn't be concerned with this impacting the price or resale of your GV60. Any vehicle with a price point that low will never compare.
It would be interesting to hear what market they are targeting with this also. China already has some cheaper electric alternatives. In Canada Ford doesn’t even come close to offering a $25,000 vehicle in any segment and even in the USA they have 2 models that squeak under so call me skeptical that all of a sudden the ultra affordable electric car is on the horizon.

Although it’s possible it seems many of the brands are talking about trying to stick close to a factory order process. It helps them preserve their profits and lower dealer inventory and carrying costs. They also seem to talk about moving to permanent negotiation free models. I don’t know what happens to someone who needs a vehicle do to an accident or major repair requirement as 4-6 months isn’t really an option in some circumstances but possibly minimal inventory and potentially significant less discounts. Maybe since they don’t have to do any large end of year discount on a large supply of vehicles they will just pass those savings along to the customer in a lower initial asking price….ha ha ha

Completely agree.

We placed preorder on May 6 - Performance Model . I am #365 on build li

Live in Edmonton) I Received an e-mail May 7 informing us that:

“We are currently in between model
years, 2022 production has been closed so there is
a high chance your Genesis will be a 2023. Factory
orders can take between 4-8 months, we currently
do not have an ETA for your Genesis but will
update you as soon as we do and that until we are
assigned a VIN we will not have any updates
regarding an arrival date of your Genesis. Your
next update will be in the second week of July.”

I was also informed test drive should available shortly as dealer is expecting their first GV60 this week.

Nice to see an Edmonton update as well, was wondering if anyone else in the Prairie provinces had updates as well.

I placed my Performance pre-order in late April. From the June Factory Order Update email I received, currently my build rank is #296 ; this was a (pretty big?) change from #375 back in the May update. Same message as your email.

I called and inquired a couple times about test drive (very jealous to see you all Ontario / Quebec/ BC folks test driving already) and the Edmonton dealer said they are expecting mid June for demo unit and will send out event links to pre-order customers for test drive booking.

Personally not in any particular hurry, current car lease does not end until May 2023 but I thought I might get the process started ~1 year beforehand given the current supply issues etc.

Never been in an EV before, so really excited to make some physical impressions when the demo unit comes in. Coming from a Lexus RX, I am wondering how fit and finish will compare?

Who’s getting a 2022? I ordered on day 1 and my order is clearly for a 2023 GV60.

This makes it sound like the models that have arrived or been shipped are not going to be 2023’s

I’m looking forward to seeing how finish is as well after reading so many reviews. Current Audi owner, past BMW & Mercedes. Initially thought I wouldn’t get vehicle until 1 year from now, which would be good by me. We’ll see how things look next month. Good luck with your final decision

The language there sounds like vague boilerplate. It talks about “Genesis” in general, not the GV60 specifically.

Where do you see your number in the queue? In the Genesis' account on the website?

Surprised you don't have a demo there yet. Calgary got ours last weekend and it's been out for a ton of test drives since then. I drove it on Tuesday.

At my dealer laptop he opened a web portal with so much information in front of me.There was even Vin number for others orders not mine.you dealer has access to your rank or queue number.

Ford's just reacting to Chevy's price cuts.

Nissan Leaf is already $27k USD. Chevy Bolt price got cut for 2023 and starts at $25.6k USD. They're already at that price bracket already. When you look at those two cars, they're old technology where the R&D cost has already been fully amortized so they can afford to cut the price. The Leaf uses 2011 mechanicals with some 2017 updates. The Bolt is a 2016 platform.

For comparison sake....a 2017 Bolt MSRP'd around $36k USD. 2023 Bolt is $25.6k USD.
2017 Leaf MSRP'd around $31k USD. 2022 Leaf is $27k USD.

On the other side of the equation at the more premium end, a 2017 Tesla 3 base model started off at $35k USD MSRP and now starts at $46k USD (albeit different trims).
