GV60 Canadian Deposit - Local Dealer Information & Timelines

Still waiting in Winnipeg for our demonstrator to arrive, but it sure sounds great so far. As for not comparing to the Ev6 and Ioniq, I feel it’s inevitable. I get brands are sharing platforms to offset costs. However if they want to share platforms, batteries and motors there opening up a comparison to themselves.

I fear how much the Ioniq and EV6 will increase in price next year to close the gap. That being said I think the HMG kind of botched this release. I get the GV60 has many great interior upgrades, but taking away the upgraded stereo (which the base could still be comparable to the Bose in the twins) the surround view monitor, self parking, blind view cameras and HD2 that all come on the loaded twins. Asking $10,000 price increase and $15,000-$20,000 consumer cost increases over those models is absurd. Unfortunately because they are also severely limiting the import of the EV6 and Ioniq to Canada and making any new orders wait 2 years is causing people like me to feel that there isn’t really much choice and will have to pay the premium just to receive a vehicle. To me that’s not the best way to build a long lasting customer relationship when you are a brand trying to build a reputation on your customer service
To be honest, Ford CEO yesterday said there would be a EV price war next year. It really makes me hesitate to proceed my order.

I am skeptical of the article.
1) Technology manufacturing cost improvements are generally quite linear. They may have s temp slope, but we generally don’t see stepwise change, so I doubt something magical will happen next year.
2) The article says that the price war is expected to happen in the low end of the segment, not where we’re buying.

I do wonder about pricing risks related to demand declines from the economic tightening now going on across NA.
It also says this great mfg improvement is 4 years away, so we are probably good.

Although it’s possible it seems many of the brands are talking about trying to stick close to a factory order process. It helps them preserve their profits and lower dealer inventory and carrying costs. They also seem to talk about moving to permanent negotiation free models. I don’t know what happens to someone who needs a vehicle do to an accident or major repair requirement as 4-6 months isn’t really an option in some circumstances but possibly minimal inventory and potentially significant less discounts. Maybe since they don’t have to do any large end of year discount on a large supply of vehicles they will just pass those savings along to the customer in a lower initial asking price….ha ha ha
I wonder what the car dealers think of this online ordering? I have a family member who is a business manager at a dealership and he said the bus mgr makes almost all the money on the initial sale with the addons (not much margin on the car itself). Without the ability to upsell, I would think the dealers are going to get squeezed to some extent. Of course, they still have repairs.

I think we will see a reduction in dealerships overtime due to this new selling process. You are correct about profits being made due to add ons. With all the supply chain disruptions, I wonder what will happen if repairs or parts are required on the new GV60? Will they be available at the dealership or how long will it take to bring in? I’ll ask my dealer these and other questions that may get presented on this forum when we next meet.

At least Genesis provides you with a Genesis loaner, even if it's an ICE model. Most companies provide you with a rental car or nothing at all. Ford keeps giving me a crappy little Ecosport when my Edge is in for longer services, and I almost have to beg for it.

At risk of being accused of being a Genesis apologist (again), do any other North American vehicles have AR like that?
Could it be that our outdated regulations or the litigious US prevents them from offering it here?

A bit late but thought this would be interesting to reply to. I tried posting this before but it didn't seem to go through (I think b/c I edited it?) so sorry if this got posted twice:

I’m in the US. Here Mercedes offers AR nav (or “Augmented video for navigation” as they call it) up and down the model range, even on the GLA and GLB. I have a 2020 GLB with it.

Two interesting anecdotes which might help decipher why GV60 is missing it:

1. Chip Shortage: From conversations I’ve had with Mercedes, if you try to order a car with AR nav now, you might not get it due to the chip shortage. That said, this makes a bit more sense for them since Mercedes uses a dedicated camera for that (behind the rearview mirror) which otherwise wouldn’t be on the car and is different from the front surround-view parking camera. Afaik, the GV60 will have the camera needed regardless; so, not really a good reason for the GV60 to omit unless it turns out it's missing a camera.

2. Regulation: Despite the chip shortage issues, I just went to MB USA and was able to spec a GLB with AR nav, though it did give me a chip shortage warning when I started the configurator. Tried the same thing on Mercedes Canada, got the chip shortage warning, but found that only the regular nav was available. So maybe there is a regulation issue preventing AR nav in Canada?

It’s worth noting, however, that it appears MB implements AR nav differently than Genesis. It seems that Genesis allows you to have the camera on for the whole drive (regulatory issue?). Mercedes on the other hand only brings up the camera feed when you’re stopped at lights or if you’re approaching a turn. Maybe this implementation allows them to skirt under some regulation in the US but not Canada? I’d be skeptical however, since it will happily bring up the feed even if you’re approaching an exit at highway speeds. If there is a regulation, I’d have a hard time imagining it would allow that.

Anyway, tl;dr: idk. Hopefully someone really into AR nav found this helpful.

Actually, a quick last-minute add: I just lurked around some MB forums and found people from both the US and Canada who’ve reported not getting AR nav due to the chip shortage. On their build sheets, there was a note saying “Retrofit” or “Omission”. This tells us two important things:
1. People were able to order Mercedes with AR nav in Canada. So, it’s likely there isn’t a blocking regulation there.
2. There’s a precedent for automakers (or at least Mercedes) to do retrofits for components missing due to the chip shortage... 🤔Sounds like AR nav and HDA2 to me 🤔... That said, not getting my hopes up with Genesis.

I don’t think AR is just a camera. I believe it is distance and depth sensors. Like the LiDAR.

That certainly could be the case. However, I work in robotics and it's also definitely possible to pull off the effect with stereo vision or even monocular vision if the surface you're projecting on is planar (like a road). So, if there's missing hardware that's only used for AR, I don't see why they'd use more sensors than they need to pull off the effect.

Either way, just speculation at this point as to what Genesis uses. I know for Mercedes at least it's purely camera-based.

We shall see, if Genesis will respond to my email about the reason why AR is not adopted, (Easiest would be due to chip shortage).

How do we see where we are in the pre-order lineup? I placed my pre-order deposit on February 9th. My dealer has no idea what my number in the line is, or when the vehicle might arrive.

How to we find out what number in line we are for pre-orders? I placed my online pre-order February 9th and my dealer cannot tell what my number on the waitlist is, or when my vehicle might arrive.

Depends on your configuration. It's easier to get the more popular builds, like there are more white cars than blue cars. Although I imagine if you ordered in February, you'd be getting it sooner than later. I also ordered in February and my car is already on the lot. Pickup when I'm back in town next week.

I ordered in April and am 365 on list . Dealer informed me of this in June. (Performance Model)

That’s interesting. Where are you located? Did you get your VIN number?
I was told my car is on the train and was given a VIN. I will be able to track my car once it is on a truck for delivery to the dealer. Ordered Performance white on Feb 9, in Quebec.

Located in Edmonton. VIN has not been released yet . I’ll see what they say in My meeting with them late next week , although the letter I received said the next update would be in mid July as to vehicle status/VIN

Did you already go through the financing or lease contract or still in pre-order status?
