  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

ours was the same situation, when asked, they said the new diffs come with fluid. I knew this wasnt true, our second one burned up in 5 miles and I am positive it was dry inside. I kept mentioning to be sure to check the fluid on our 3rd one, and the service guy said stuff like "Ill triple check this one" which leads me to believe they knew the second one burned up because they never checked or added the fluid. I had no way of proving this but enough was said that is what I believe happened.

This show bad practices/procedures from the dealership. A basic checklist would have would help prevent the second diff without fluid.

Did the dealership tell you they are just replacing the diff or did they tell you they know the cause of the problem is this is a "fix" and not a "replacement"?

they didnt say much, I informed them I feel the second one didnt have fluid for 3 reasons, it burned up in 5 miles, the fill bolt head is black and didnt have a mark on it, meaning a socket never opened it and last, after the 5 miles, I let it sit for 5-6 hours and the diff was still burning hot, the exhaust and motor were completely cool at that point but the diff was still super hot.
They just kept saying it comes with fluid, i have been involved in motorsports for decades and have never seen a part like that come shipped with fluid, never......I then infomred them that telling me a new diff went bad after 5 miles was just bad luck instead of admitting a human error, doesnt leave a good feeling for me that the vehicle i bought has major parts that may or may not last a few miles. I have come to the belief that incorrect fluid levels are the leading reason for these diffs going out. Our 3rd one is about 2 weeks old and still silent, hope it stays that way

Well after 1 month wait. Got ours installed and the first 20 miles haven’t had any issues!!!!

Good luck everyone else. I’d order your early before the flood gates open for people just getting their cars.

After discussion with my wife, we traded the car after this debacle.

I have listed my JB4 tuner and my 21" OEM wheels and tires in classifieds if anyone is interested. I am in Illinois.

Wow - that was a quick turn from 'got it fixed' to 'traded in the car'. What happened in the one day? And what was the trade in for (might I ask).

Haha that’s a fair question. We have having a kid in a few months and need the extra space. The gv70 is nice, just felt kind of like a beta tester on the car’s issues and my wife doesn’t feel as safe as in a full SUV. Figured may as well trade in while value is still high.

we are trading it in for a 23 telluride

Update: Our replacement part was ordered Sept. 14. Was advised today that part to arrive Oct. 14 with install appointment Oct. 19. Hopefully this new diff. will fix the problem. Was advised that no loaner cars are available. After reading that some others are on their 3rd replacement, we are anxious.
Update: Well, Oct 14, Oct 19 came and went and no dif received. Now told part expected for Oct. 29 with an install date of Nov. 1. Will post if received/installed.

Im in the same boat. Have a baby and the GV70 is kind of cramped. Took a trip to the keys and had to have the in laws take a couple things because I couldn't fit it in the GV.

If I blatantly hear the rear end noise I'm gonna just trade it in. I test drove the 23' Palisade Calligraphy and it was pretty cozy. Not sporty like the GV but has all the technology and then some. Particularly the rear ventilated and heated seats.

this happened to us every week for 5 weeks, they kept saying, "yours is on its way this week" only to hear at the end of the week "it went somewhere else, sorry.....but next week yours is coming" over and over, finally after 5-6 weeks our came after our dealer contacted corporate to actual get one sent to us.

I was just about to pull he trigger on a 2023 GV70 Sport Prestige (lease special) until I read this posting. I'm currently driving a Model 3 and have been a tesla owner for the past ten years. Because I fell in love with the design and features of this car, I was willing to give up EVs and return to the ICE age (lol). All these post about issues and dealer repairs scare me since I haven't had any service or repair issues with an EV in ten years. Maybe ill wait for the GV70 EV.

I agree and pulled my deposit. As much as I like the vehicle, too many issues for me to have the warm feeling that ownership will be a pleasant one. Maybe in the future, but not now. Bye for now.

for what its worth, I follow most major brands forums and from what I see, there really isnt a manufacturer out there not having issues with new models. Genesis isnt the only one.

Very true. I perused many forums when I was looking at various vehicles and there are complaints just like this in all of them.

The part for my rear diff is coming in tomorrow but they can't book me in until Nov 9. I asked them about people needing to replace these parts multiple times and what they've done to address the issue. The service manager told me that there is actually a new part/part# now and that is the one they ordered for me. It has been modified from the original, so here's hoping these new ones have addressed the problem permanently!

If this is true, then this is what I have been waiting for, and I will take time to bring it in for a warranty claim. I didn't mind waiting as this the problem did not seem to affect performance, and the noise issue was successfully solved with a little volume on the radio.

You say 'part' is coming in. So they aren't replacing the complete diff assembly or do you know? If its just a part, let us know which part if you can. Imo, I think there was a machining issue causing a slight misalignment of gears somewhere inside the diff or the casing machining. As the gears break in, a noise began to appear. It sounds like the issue has been identified and affected units are being repaired/replaced.

I almost didn't get my GV70 because of this thread, but only because I'm almost 200 miles away from the dealer. I sucked it up and took the chance anyway, I love the vehicle and it's got a great warranty. I have been assured since that even though I'm far away they'll still come all the way to get it for maintenance or service. Glad I pulled the trigger. While I really hope I don't end up with this issue I do take solace in the fact that I'm going to be taken care of, even if it does take a while due to parts shortages.

It is the whole differential, I believe.
