  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

GV70 2.5 rear end noise

How is it possible you didn’t get a loaner?
My service guy told me he did me a favor by getting me a loaner for the month+ I'm not going to have my car, even though it's, you know, part of the deal.

Are you able to provide any more detail on the bearings?
Not really. I was just told it is a bearing issue and they replaced the diff oil with a thicker one while the new part is on its way.
I can understand it comes from one or more bearings based on the noise and speed conditions. Probably a mechanical tolerance issue.
Fortunately they can fix it quite easily.

After reading about all these problems I'm glad that I'm not in a hurry to get one. I'm thinking after winter but I need to keep an eye on the differential problem.
This is literally the only problem that's been widespread. What other problems have you been reading about?

if you REALLY want to see some miserable folks, go check out the Volvo XC60 forum. I had a 2022 that was nothing but trouble and I got rid of it and got a GV70.

The differential is the only problem, but folks have been waiting weeks and weeks and going through two or three new diffs. I'll wait for this to get sorted out. I don't need a new car right now.

I think they did sort it. There were a couple of dealerships that didn't know what they were doing and maybe some still-flawed parts but the new diffs have a new part number and I have over 2K on the new diff with no issues.

So I think they're good now.

Got my '23 2.5t SP back after having the torque converter and rear differential replaced. Put 100 miles on it yesterday, no issues whatsoever. The noise is gone and it drives perfectly.

Background: Had my differential replaced in October, problem still there plus additional noise.
Took car back to dealer Oct. 21. Three weeks ago when I called them the tech said he drove it and heard the noise, manager drove it and heard the noise, but they drove a new one on the lot and it made the noise also, so it’s normal.
I told him that’s not acceptable and it didn’t do it when I bought it, to which he replied he would relay what I said to his manager.
I called the manager this morning and he said he would have to find out what the current status is but he thinks it’s normal, and asked if I would be willing to come ride with the tech.
So basically my car has been sitting at the dealer since October 21st and their answer is it’s normal.
I understand the state of the world we live in and trying not to be in a hurry, but I’m about out of patience.
At this point, even if they fix it, I’ll likely get rid of it.

Sorry to hear about all the problems but I understand completely. I love this truck but can't afford to deal with problems and the dealers lack of knowledge on the product

Wow! Unbelievable! The fact is, most of these vehicles do have this same problem, that's why they all make the same noise! I have had the diff replaced and I can verify that the noise is completely gone now! My dealership has been lobbying Genesis to submit a recall on this, which would end stupid discussions like this. It is obviously not normal...sheesh.

Any other dealerships around you can go to? Maybe call Genesis directly?

Wish I knew what the sound was. I had a howling at highway speeds in a caddie and it was a bad diff which was replaced and fixed. Don't think I hear it on my gv70 although the fluid was nasty at 3k and they replaced it.

Who is your dealer?
Canada or US

the sound is a slight "woo, woooo" sound when you feather the gas pedal, either lightly pressing or lightly letting off the gas pedal. If the diff is really bad, you wont have any question about what it sounds like. Our first one was annoying, sort of once you notice you cant ignore it. The second new differential was LOUD and only made it 5 miles after the install. Our 3rd diff, is totally quiet so far after putting about 2500 miles on it.

Hope. Makes you wonder how long it will stay that way unfortunately cause we don't know what components within the diff that's failing or needs a design upgrade. Something makes the oil look nasty after the initial breakin. Best of luck I don't have that thankfully yet and that was exactly what my caddie sounded like when the differential was bad.

Yup, same here. They told me that the replacement diff has a different part number than the original so I'm hoping they found the issue and redesigned it.

2022 GV70 Advanced with 6,000 miles has the whine and whistle also as described by others especially when feathering the gas pedal. Reputable Genesis dealer in Raleigh agreed with me it was a differential problem. Replacement differential is 4 weeks back ordered. If you hear the noise don’t let the dealership convince you that it is all in your head.

I'm starting to take offense to you calling it a truck lol. I don't think it's quite big enough to not be a "car", though I guess it's not much smaller than an old Blazer, which is definitely a truck. Definitely the wrong shape to be a truck though lol.

I always thought trucks were body on frame, which most SUVs aren't.
